    "That's good. Emoting is hard enough with them." Martin squints up at the sky. "Say, if Fadran's not here, who's running this army?"

    Martin ambles over as the spar comes to a close. "Everyone have their eyebrows?"

    "Good idea. And make sure they keep their eyebrows." That had been a nightmare for six months.

    "Yeah." Martin leans back.

    "I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but either way, that's not something I've seen before."

    "It was terrible, I cut it with someone's combat knife."

    "Maybe I will. My last was an undercut that didn't grow out well, so..."

    "That's fine. Just saying, it's happened three times to me, and I'm pretty sure there's a pattern."

    "I mean, kind of sudden. But," he laughs. "Everything in war is. Yeah. Yeah, that's okay." He's not entirely sure his brain is completely there anymore.

    "No problem." He hugs her again.

    "They're so busy being... that... that they forget people." Martin takes a deep breath. "Like leaving a war camp who needs commanders to go negotiate with deities." Is that too far? He doesn't know. "It's always about the next ones they can save." Never the ones who are safe. "I'll watch your back. I'm too confused to go die heroically. If you want me too, that is."
