Long Game 95: The Fire of Ado's Light
Ashbringer replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
LG95 Day One: A Word With You The four split up. Frost vanished into the crowd before the rest even realized he was moving. Lorn returned to his office to monitor the surroundings, and make sure he could track the few people he knew he could trust. Sojya walked through the halls of the academy, her skeletals observing the places she could not walk. Riwleveh was in the library, floating a hundred feet in the air downloading every article on the Shards of Adonalsium her copperminds could hold. For now, the others were largely as usual. Students discussed what powers they would use for their research and which ones, besides Autonomy, would be the most dangerous. Riwleveh waved to Telan in the library, the faculty discussed the various goings-on and what the whispers from Taldain about the return of Bavadin. Then the foundations of the world began to shake, and a true alarm began to sound. Riwleveh sprinted to Shardic Containment, and found the door blown off its hinges. The doorman was slumped near it, not dead but dazed, struggling to point towards the containment. Autonomy’s container was still notably empty. Another container was notably no longer in proper existence. Lorn watched as another of the sixteen panels on his screen flickered and went red. Another Shard had burst its containment; not with the subtlety of Autonomy but with the violence of an overdrained containment system. That had been… expected, with the reduced safety protocols. Odium may have been the most dangerous of the remaining Shards. But Ruin was always most likely to break its way through. Lorn sighed. This would cost everything. With any luck, everything but their lives. He suddenly became aware of something else. A package on his desk. That hadn’t been there before, had it. Or maybe it was and he just couldn’t notice it until the right moment. Dragon tricks. Lorn Haemtes opened it. Inside was a skull. “Hello, Haemtes,” it said in Frost's voice, mouth staying still. Only a memory, but one with a bit more independence than a letter. “Hello. I thought you were sending the sword.” “Too ineffective. And two dangerous. The purer form is safer in your hands.” Lorn paled. “You mean-“ “The Last Word. It is yours. It is DESTROY.” Lorn Haemtes shook. "I hope you do not have to use it. But I know you will. Use it wisely, with the will of the people." And the skull fell silent. Gods Beyond... * * * No one has died! Ruin has Breached Containment! * * * Day One has begun! There will be an execution this cycle. As I noted, I may change the rollover time sometime soon to better accommodate changing schedules, but for now it will stay as is. Also, the number of conversion charges / Avatars will go on unchanged. This turn will end on 10:00 PM PDT / 5:00 AM GMT (+1 Day) on June 8th, in 48 hours. Good luck to all! Hmm. Could probably go either way, but I'll say no they do not count as players for other faction's win conditions, only for the Autonomous Win Con. (That may come back to bite me, but the Autonomous SD wincon can happen separately from any of the other wincons anyway so it shouldn't matter too much.)- 1443 replies

Hey all! A few things. First, I'm making a minor rule change to prevent an exploit - you can now only pass one Charge of Investiture or one Shard in a Passing action. To be honest, I forgot that it was unlimited when I started balancing things. Second, I'm adding a clarifications section to the writeups, I'll try to add anything I've clarified (in PMs, docs, or threads) since the start of the game there. Third, the number of Conversions and Avatars for the different factions is remaining at 3 and 6, respectively. Might be on the high end, but 2 conversions feels on the low end and I don't know how you convert half a player. Fourth, I got a summer job! Which comes with an unpredictable schedule that will likely cover most evenings. So that rollover change I thought would happen probably will happen. Not this cycle, and I'll try and give more warning than a few hours (probably extend D2 or something, idk). About 3 hours and 40 minutes until rollover!- 1443 replies

LG95 Night Zero: Out of the Breach “Quickly, Chairman,” Frost said, striding as fast as his human-seeming legs could without seeming too much in a hurry. Lorn Haemtes and two other members of the Research Facility, Sojya and Riwleveh, followed, doing more striding than running. The dragon’s mere appearance was enough to send the campus into a frenzy; the words that he had to say only did more so. “Shouldn’t we be going faster? Find a Tia plate or something?” Sojya said, red eyes narrowing as she panted along. “I know what we’ll see,” Frost said plainly. “I just need you to see it, too.” Lorn shuddered. Frost had some control over the cold, yes, but he somehow doubted that was how he’d picked his name. They arrived at the Shardic Containment Site a few minutes later, Riwleveh dashing forward to explain to the doorman the basics. The guard quickly began opening the locks and generally getting out of her way. “So, what are you looking for? Everything was sealed, so…” Sojya’s voice trailed off as the dragon slowly approached one of the Containment Pods. One of the two with extra hazard markers on it, and this one had a lot more. Odium nearly broke the entire cosmere, yes. But only Autonomy managed to enslave it. “You’re right, Frost. I don’t believe you,” Lorn said. But he didn’t sound like he believed himself. “Fill a gem,” Frost said. Lorn walked over, disengaged the many safety protocols, and began gathering. The siphoning had to be done with care, especially for Autonomy. But the gemstone did not blaze with the Light that was filling, it flickered, nearly dying. When the cycle was finished, the gem finally glowed solidly – but a quiet alarm began ringing out in the room. “That’s… impossible,” Riwleveh said. “So I thought it was. But for all my research, I never held the power,” Frost said. “And Bavadin lives. She is the only one alive who’s held one for more than a few moments. More Connected to the Shard of Autonomy than anything else in existence. And clearly, it values that Connection more than your containment procedures.” Lorn and the researchers stood in silence. Bavadin... Jaimo's havoc with Autonomy was after a few days, maybe a week holding the power. Bavadin held it for millenia. But, she'd died? Right? Frost simply shook his head. "So what do we do?" Lorn said. "Let the alarm of a breach sound. The people deserve that much. I will walk among them to try and stop what is happening, and see if I can deliver something to even the odds. Know there are others, Cephandrius and Khrissala. They seek to enact their plans, and are no friends of ours - but no friends of each other or Bavadin either. You'll need to stop them all." Frost turned to the other 15 containers, glowing with Aons and Yolish symbols, fortifying themselves in the wake of a breach. He tilted his head, and the symbols vanished, the protections quelled. "You'll need these," the dragon whispered. "Another Sixteen. Or at least, more power than you've been siphoning for your pet projects. The people need to arm themselves." "We can't just let anyone in here. What if-" Sojya started. "We don't have a choice," Lorn said simply. "The Wanderer, the Founder, the One of Many Faces... only these can stand against them." It would have to be enough. "Lock down the city," Lorn shouted. "We have a Breach." * * * Autonomy has Breached Containment! * * * Welcome to LG95! A few reminders: This is a Night Turn, and as such there is no execution and the turn will last only 24 hours. PMs are closed unless opened by an ability, and any ability that opens PMs will have them opened by the GM or coGM over rollover. If you notice any discrepencies in the rules between the signup thread and the Google Doc, let me know! Hoid and Khrissala each have 3 Conversions, and Autonomy can have up to 6 Avatars at one time. We might tune these numbers down a bit, and if we do that should happen before the end of this turn at the latest. The rollover time may end up changing as Aman and I figure out our schedules a bit more. If you have an RP character, let me know! I'm hoping I can incorporate them a bit more. This turn will end on 10:00 PM PDT / 5:00 AM GMT (+1 Day) on June 6th, in 24 hours. Good luck to all! Shard Status: Player List: Clarifications:- 1443 replies

Long Game 95: The Fire of Ado's Light
Ashbringer replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well… At this point, I think I’ll just run the rules as is with 19. That shouldn’t make too huge of a difference, just may make some of the wincon numbers smaller. (Also I can’t really edit the player list easily on mobile, name links are refusing to delete, so I’ll do that later.) Unless more people need to drop out, in which case I’ll just run something else. Or someone will. I don’t know at this point. One other thing - I’ve been looking for a summer job, and if I get one that works late evenings I may change up the rollover time. Hopefully I don’t need to do that, but it’s a possibility.- 1443 replies

There's a WoB that Hoid specifically wouldn't have taken Whimsy. He enjoys whimsy, but that's not really what he's about if that makes sense. But it's also been... a very long time since I've spent thought on which Shard he would have grabbed.

Even without the delay signups wouldn't have ended for a bit, so yes it's not too late! Welcome aboard. I will echo Drake(Marshall) that as much as we do need the players, this is a... quite complicated ruleset. A lot of the complexities may or may not come into play, but it is complex. But if you can handle it we'd be glad to have you as a player!- 1443 replies

Joining in general or joining this game? Either way... hi everyone! After talking to a few people, I think delaying signups would get us more players than not, and most people seem interested in the full, now-slightly-more-balanced ruleset. So, I am officially delaying the start of the game to 10:00 PM PDT on June 5th, or 6 days from the original signup time. I will note that I might change the actual rollover time as well, depending on how my schedule shakes out - but delaying should get us to at least 19 players (and tbh I'd run the full ruleset with 19 players, just the more the merrier / less insanier). I'll add Araris to the player list, @TheAlpha929 could I confirm that that works for you?- 1443 replies

Long Game 95: The Fire of Ado's Light
Ashbringer replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Just about 2 days left in signups! First of all, some rules updates: Also, we currently only have 17 players, which means I'd need 3 more to run this ruleset. I hope we get enough to run it, but in case we don't by the 30th, there's a few things that could happen. I could extend signups for a few days to match when a few people would become available and/or give people more time to sign up, but this game may run long anyway and I don't know for how long people (including me) can plan out things. Or, I could set up a simpler ruleset. The one I have in mind right now is, all players start out with a Shard + Hoid (or are Khriss/Frost as necessary), some changes to the Shardics, and it's Autonomy and Hoid together as the Elims vs the rest of the Shards as a more standard conversion game. That cuts out... a lot, but it's probably better than running this level of a game with barely more players than Shards.- 1443 replies

3 days left in signups, and we still need ~5 more players! If we can’t reach that… not sure what I’ll do. Probably cobble together a ruleset still involving Shards but more on the scale of a standard game.- 1443 replies

Long Game 95: The Fire of Ado's Light
Ashbringer replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
A good question! Uh... Depends where that ability goes in the OoA. It would be weird if it happened before Ruin's Investiture, but then it would only consume some kinds of Charges of Investiture and not others. Which on paper seems fine, I'd have to figure out if practice changes that. I'd imagine if someone was using a Charge of Investiture that occurred before / at the same time as Odium's Charge of Investiture, it would ignore it and either erase another Charge of Investiture or turn into a Kill action if there was none. So that's Ruin's, Whimsy's, Honor's, Valor's, and Odium's. (I'd also imagine I'd deprioritize Charges of Investiture that are being used even after, so it's a bit less of a random chance of a roleblock.) Yeah all the Sudden Deaths are pretty hard, by design. Autonomous' is probably a bit "easier", but also anyone can pitch in to stop it by shifting the Charge balance. And yup, that's the interaction that's making me wonder how balanced those two are- 1443 replies
