  1. Today I finished the Wheel of Time.

I didn’t stop after my last SU, actually. I just closed the book long enough to breathe (and type a few paragraphs). Altogether it took me 5.5 hours to read from page 770 till the end, and I wasn’t bored for a minute of it. Didn’t find time to make this one until now.

Just gonna reaffirm what I said this morning about everyone reading the series.

Further thoughts in the spoiler. Don’t open if you haven’t finished it, obviously.

    Spoiler

    You’ve been warned.

    Spoiler

The ability of authors to wrap up a story as massive as WoT is incredible to me. That hypes me even more for SA5, though I do think Brandon said that Robert wrote the ending of MoL before he passed— if that’s the case, I’m glad. He deserves the chance to be the pen behind the final words. His final words.

I’m firmly in the camp of readers who enjoyed the ending and how it wrapped up. And enjoyed basically everything else. It’s… hard to make me not like an ending to a series structured like WoT :P I personally didn’t notice a whole lot of writing style shifts between 11-12 and think Brandon did more than a fantastic job. I do wish Robert had gotten the chance to finish it, but I’m again glad that he wrote a lot of the major scenes like the Tower if Ghenji and the ending.

Unfortunately, I had a few majorish things spoiled for me before finishing, but that also was my own fault for going to the WoT wiki for research xD Reveals I can remember learning prior to getting to that point in the book:

    • Egwene’s death
    • Taim’s betrayal
    • Rand’s survival and body swap
    • Elayne/Aviendha/Min’s survival
    • Mat’s survival
    • Perrin’s survival

Almost everything else was learned in the moment :P Whoops. But it was fine, a lot of the twists were still twists and I liked that. Most of what I knew didn’t end up being plot related, just character related.

Mat. Is. The. Best. Character. Do not regret modeling my username after him for one second. His scenes and the places he ended up… I just can’t even say how awesome I think they are. One last toss of the dice…

Other random thoughts in no particular order:

    • Am I the only one who really liked the Mat/Tuon romance? Like a lot?
    • I ship Pevrandrol a thousand percent.
    • Favorite side characters include Talmanes, Androl, Ituralde
    • Ngl my favorite chapter sequence in the entire book is Egwene in the White Tower in book 12.
    • Yeah basically there are no bad characters in this series and every PoV is one I enjoy reading. So good. It’s so good.
    • Apparently very controversial opinion is me not minding Fain’s death? I thought it was fine. Mat finishing him was appropriate.
    • Again I can’t think of a single thing that I don’t like about the way this ended xD

I’m left with a sense of… what now, yknow? I think that’s pretty normal for someone finishing WoT. It absolutely gains the status of greatest-of-all-time along with just a couple other series. I can’t stress that enough.

What now is reading the Licanius Trilogy :P I’ll probably give myself a week to sink everything in. Man.

I really wanted to answer one of the thoughts so, it's in the Box:

      Spoiler

I wasn't a fan of Mat and Tuon - but I also wasn't a fan of a lot of the relationships.  So I'm a bit biased against them.

my favorite chapter of the series was hands down

      Spoiler

(not in a "I enjoyed this chapter" way, but it a "this chapter made me feel enough that I had to take a break from the book" kind of way)

      Spoiler

the one where Aviendha sees the Aiel's (possible?) futures. it's just sickening
