I'm currently reading Words of Radiance, and I'm wondering when the interludes will start to connect? Has the series gotten far enough for things to start to connect together lore or connect to the current storylines? I feel like I'm sort of struggling to understand how everything connects in the interludes or question the relevance to the main characters' stories. I know I'm still just in the beginning of the story, but I'm curious how others make sense of things. I also read at a slower pace, so it's hard to keep up with the first book's interludes. Any tips?

Have you read anything by Michael Moorcock? His character, Elric of Melnibone, was really influential for the creation of many other fantasy characters (Geralt from the Witcher, probably). Also has multiverse stuff. It's pretty easy to read, and you don't have to think much about it.

I started Way of Kings in December 2019 and finished March 2020. How long did it take you to read all the books? I switched between listening to the audio book and reading a chapter, and enjoyed the pace that I was consuming. I guess I just enjoy consuming big books slowly. I've barely started the second book, although I enjoyed the first. I don't know -- I guess I'm sort of waiting for the fourth one to come out so I have even more time to catch up. But how do you prefer to read the books?

Thanks — this is all good know. Spren are perhaps one of the most interesting elements of the book for me. I'm guessing by some of these replies that this concept gets deeper as the series continues. It helps to have this context.

I'm currently reading The Way of Kings, and I'm wondering -- what do spren actually look like? Is it different for different types? I imagined while reading something similar to fireflies with different colors, but when reading about deathspren it was described differently. I also imagine Syl as a sort of typical fantasy fairy-looking character. Are there any illustrations or descriptions for reference that you find helpful?

Hollow Knight. It's great. And difficult. And addictive. I love it. Also, Smash Bros. Ultimate. Because I like getting my butt kicked during online tournaments, apparently (it is fun, though).

Okay, hear me out — Read Michael Moorcock. His character, Elric of Melnibone has been extremely influential for many writers. Plus, his writing exists in a multiverse, just like Sanderson's, and the books are relatively easy to read because they are short and amusing.

Existential joking aside, I'm currently reading my first Brandon Sanderson book, The Way of Kings. I'm only on page 100. I'm impressed by the amount of praise Sanderson receives for his writing. So I thought I'd give it a try. I don't have many strong opinions right now, but I am excited that I stumbled upon this community. I'm not sure how much I'll be able to contribute right now to the Cosmere discussion (so you'll probably notice me either lurking or contributing in the general discussion section). So, uh, basically, I'm really overwhelmed. But I'll get over it soon enough. As for other authors I enjoy, I really like Octavia Butler and Michael Moorock. I recently read The Name of the Wind, but it wasn't my cup of tea. I have a good feeling about Sanderson, though. Looking forward to being around here. — Elric
