"It works the same way that this does." Ayia held out her metal staff, Stabilized it, and left it floating in midair.

Phaedrus tried to answer, but could only cough up blood.

"Propose? Though... haven't you already used all three Elven Rings?" He cleared his throat. "Sorry. I'll stop."

"Well, first you guys gotta understand how that thing works."

"Take them there. Seek help from the Elders."

"Daolan the Great rides to Fadran seeking my council," Fadran said, setting down his copy of the Fellowship of the Ring. "For that is why you have come?"

"I was about to explain how we get inside..."

"What do you think I'm doing right now, painting man?"

Fadran dropped onto one knee and proffered an onion ring to Queen. "Are you hungry?"

"Okay, everyone, calm down and get back down here. THAT INCLUDES YOU, ENTER." She put her back against the mountain, taking deep breaths and holding her arm. "We need to replan our approach. They have way better resources than I thought they did."

"I bet you have no clue what that thing is made of."

"You're literally surrounded by snow, and I'll be fine." "Whoa, girl. Hold up. Explosives aren't going to work on that." Ayia pulled her hand out of Martin's. "You're just going to blow all of us up and none of them. Now get back here before they shoot you, too!"

"I'm not resting until the job's done." Ayia took the canteen. "We still have that fortress to crack."

"Thanks." She took his hand again. It felt warmer now.

Ayia grunted and keeled over as Martin removed the arrow, but regained her posture quickly, shivering but covered in sweat. "Thanks," she muttered weakly to the both of them.

"Then get it out! I don't feel like I have to reiterate this."

"Just get this thing out. Please."

"Oh, yeah. Please get this thing out of me sooner rather than later. It hurts more if you leave it in."
