Wither-hunt - The Fight for Mendahar

"What you were trained to do, by blazes!" Ilektchi kicked up gravel, one torch crossed over his chest and the other hanging behind him. No withergeist would be coming out of his shadow today. The street was glowing golden in the sunlight, the same old shade as the clouds and fields this time of day. Against all that, even his torches seemed like little more than a distant star against the moon. Dozens? More? Blast... to think he had nothing more than a bundle of soft-skins to take them out today. His old men would struggle with this. "Keep to your pairs!" Letch ordered. "No man takes a 'geist alone!" He skirted about a shadow, targeting one withergeist. Scraping up gravel and kicking up dust, Ilektchi switched trajectory and ran at it. That shadow was mostly alone, so it couldn't very well go anywhere: trapping it between him and the new kid would work plenty. -

That... there... How many of them are there??? "GET IN POSITION!!!" Ilektchi broke open the clasp across his chest, sending his pack tumbling to the dirt. "Tam, get your men on the rooftops! Don't you dare get caught in the shade! Linus, take command there! Mirtram--" He yanked his foot out the stirrup, then pulled on the torches to snap the cord. "Follow my lead." Ilektchi ran his horse just by a building, stretching out the torches against the cobblestone walls. The metal screeched against the stones, casting sparks out like powder in a fireplace. As his steed cleared the house, Letch leapt off the side, twisting his body to face the ground head-on and pull the torches in. They burst ablaze, like the sunlight's scalding touch. -

"And you..." Letch turned his gaze to the... 'new' one. "Join the reconnaissance team. Be good." "BLAZES!" Letch yanked his reigns, rearing his horse to run aside. "Stay in the sunlight! Recon, get up and get up fast! Everyone else: keep your distance!" That's one. He began circling the town, hooves thundering. No way in mal it'll just be that. Where the blazes are the rest? In the shadows, of course. Despite his horse's protests and the pain in his eyes, Letch stuck to the sunlight. Even the most powerful of unbonded 'geists couldn't manifest in focused rays this direct. At the very least, not enough to drag his men right down to mal. But if it was manifesting through the floor... wasn't any chance it had gone without something to run off of. "Get in position!" His words cried out long and hard, echoing in the dirt and wind. "We're gonna fish out those blasted devils if its the last thing we do! Stick to your partner, and stay in the sun 'til I give the order!" -

Hoofteps thundered and cracked on the gravel, hurling dust through into the wind. The rays of falling sunlight sliced through the haze, scalding golden-orange patches onto the walls, rooftops, and grass. Shadows slashed across the ground, pillared and stretching towards the horizon far behind them. The blaze from the sky pierced against Letch's eyes, but he kept his gaze hard and bent on the village streets. Not a single withergeist. Of course, they wouldn't be sitting out in the open in the sunlight.Maybe it was nigh impossible to see with the sun in his face, but never was it brighter at day than it was now. The weakest could even die in this light. That much was by design: it narrowed down the 'geists options for escape, making them far more manageable to corral. "Fan out!" Letch ordered, chopping his hand through the air. "Stay in your groups and get in position! Tarker, Murk: get us eyes!" -

"SHINZOU SASAGEYO!!!!!" Letch snapped the reigns and spurred the horse off into the distance. -

"I don't see why any would be left in town at this point," Letch replied, "but if they are, then prioritize their evacuation." He left it at that. "Saddle up, men." Ilektchi slung himself onto his mount's saddle, taking the reigns. "We ride now! There are two hours until sunset. We have until then to dispose of the threat!" @Kvothe the Bloodless @xinoehp512 @Experience @Matrim's Dice @Frustration -

"Mirtam! You're with me. We'll be running point. Primary objective is to first remove all Withergeists from the town, ward them into the forest, and take care of them there. Yonath, Linus: Keep second behind us. Take any devils that we can't handle. Tarker, Murk: reconnaissance. The place is packed tight enough that you can stick to the rooftops. If we miss something, shout it out." Letch pulled the straps on his pack tight. "According to our resources, there won't be a single Bond out there tonight. It'll be warding and banishment: nothing more. Even so, keep your weapons close and powder closer."' He cleared his throat one last time. "Any questions?" -

"The Withers are two furlongs out," Ilektchi explained, pacing up and down the line. "Spotted outside a farming village, scared off the townsfolk. Reports from the locals say there's anywhere between two and five and 'a million of 'em.'" He gauged everyone's reactions. "Put simple, we're in for our money's worth for this one." -

Was that Star over there? Fadran craned his neck, trying to peer through the branches. That was definitely her. He contained a bit of excitement, dropping out of the tree and slinking through the foliage quietly. Hopefully she'd be open to cooperation: an ally could be invaluable at htis point. Until he could find Queen... Blood splattered. Screams shook the atmosphere. Fadran stopped. Oh my gods. That was... that was Taln. Bloodied. Broken. Sprawled in the grass. A cannon fired. Run. Star was grabbing a bow and arrow from him. He hadn't the faintest idea of how her aim was with that, but he wasn't just about ready to find out. Run. Run away. Run away NOW. There was a small pack over there. By the way the straps had been adjusted, he could only assume it was hers. Fadran backed into the shadows again, but grabbed the supplies. What in the world are you doing? A part of him demanded. Fadran started running back to his tree. That wasn't the Star he knew.

"I was referring to the new 'uns, Lin." Ilektchi turned his eyes to the only veteran in the group other than himself. -
I evaded the blade... mostly. With the girl hindering me, a little nick crossed my bicep. Gritting my teeth, I tried to heal it. It didn't... respond. Right. Mordite. Growling, I sent a ironclad kick into Melody's chest.

I stepped forwards, avoiding the blade. "Cupra..." I muttered, now seething. "You're hiding something, aren't you?"
