    Hackney was a cute little town, though none of the locals liked hearing people call it that. With barely even a few hundred people between the bulb fields and central village, it would take a miracle just to pass through without everyone recognizing you as an outsider and staring the whole way through. The local tavern knew who to call out to advertising a stay, and merchants always seemed to shout louder whenever outsiders drew near. Luckily for them, they knew what they were here for. Vance spent a good half an hour haggling over the week's pricing for a wagon and pack driver, coming out just about as cleanly as he could've hoped. In the meanwhile he'd sent Kealie to go fetch some supplies - plenty of vegetables, mostly, for Quest's strange diet.

    But we could've. "I mean..." Vance crossed his arms. "If you're okay, then I'm okay."

    "Now come on. Let's get inside." Kris decided to stop waiting and moved towards the front door.

    Vance twiddled his fingers together. "Not really."

    Vance raised an eyebrow. "Did we?"

    "Certainly. That's why you're here, isn't it?"

    "We got lucky."

    "We shouldn't have had to do that in the first place. A demon like that is not the kind of thing you should even think about fighting. The fact that she had one on hand..." Vance clenched his hands into fists. "...If I hadn't been fast enough, you would've died. No doubt about it."

    "Have you ever met a collector who sells their collectibles? And one this suddenly valuable, too." Kris shook his head, then sighed. He gestured to the door again. "Come on. Let's go inside. Looks like there's a storm coming on."

    "I should've been more responsible. Taken that witch seriously. I thought you could take her." Vance jumped in realization at his words. "Not that you aren't capable! I just... I know you're strong. I was... I--" How pathetic.

    “I know him to be quite the stickler for his own rules.” “Almost definitely not.”

    "Well if there was, we'd have a much bigger problem with it," Fadran explained.

    "I haven't devised a plan yet. That's what the team is for."

    "All sorts of insane things. I've stolen some of the most incredibly well-guarded documents and specimens ever known to sentient life." Kris smiled a little at the memory. "But that was a long time ago. My back can't take anything crazy like that anymore." "It's a local merchant leader. He doesn't technically have permission to keep it, but the local law enforcement respect him enough to turn a blind eye."

    Kaeni giggled a little. It really did sound like a little girl's. "Can we join you on the way up? Safety in numbers and all."

    "We just want a head start on it is all. This really is a relaxed sort of research mission compared to the likes of the things I used to do."

    "Gods..." The kinds of people Fadran finds nowadays...

    Kris looked aghast. "This is just research! Why would we steal anything?"
