    "She's... she's okay, though." Vance looked back out at the road. "We picked up someone else as well. I think they hit their head or something... we're just gonna take them back to town once we're done here."

    The wyvern, roaring once again, swooped around and crashed onto the peak of the mountain, spewing debris about with its talons.

    Voice a little lower so that Shana couldn't hear, Aolicei replied, "We do need to keep eyes on her. I'll be with her in the room, and if you don't mind staying up, then see if you can keep an eye on the hall. I... don't know how much I trust the others. Or you, but... well..." You take some and you leave some. "D'you wanna take a bath in the morning, hun?"

    "A lady," Aolicei replied, "ought to stay in a lady's room." With that she took Shana's hand and led her up to... well, wherever their rooms were. It had only just occurred to her that nobody had told them where they'd all be staying.

    "No." Aolicei mouthed. "C'mere, hun." Aolicei held out a hand.

    Aolicei frowned. Well that won't do. Maybe those guards had been out of line, but they'd been right about having to keep her safe. "How about you stay with us for now? We'll get you cleaned up and everything."

    "They are. 'Cause monsters kept eating 'em." Aolicei smiled at Shana. I really shouldn't keep this up for long. "It's a little late, honey. Where's your room?"

    "A couple. They like eating people's cucumbers."

    "Mhm! I bet you could fight a monster all by yourself."

    "Six, huh? That's pretty big." Aolicei stroked the top of Shana's head a little. "And you're really brave and strong, too."

    Aolicei knelt down and set a hand on Shana's head. "How old are you, Shana?"

    "I figured there's no way that she'd just run off on us if she was powerful or wealthy or whatever enough to have that thing; not to mention the dimension itself was hidden. Thus, someone else would've put it there, meaning that by taking it, we'd have alerted that person to our presence as a legitimate threat. So then I figured and figured that they'd send the witch back at us," Vance drooped against a tree with his elbow, looking dejected, "and then she summoned a fire demon and nearly killed Kealie and now she has Antin, and - I -"
