I would think that if you really want to know which Order you'd do best in though is to look at the attributes they aspire for and to ask yourself if that's what you need in yourself. Not necessarily what you want, but what you need to grow and become better as a person.

Thank you for this! Exactly the perspective I was looking for, I haven’t approached it from this angle before. Very insightful.

  2. Hello all, I’m wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience as myself:

I’ve taken the Knights Radiant quiz numerous times over the years with varying results - mostly I get Truthwatcher, an Order I generally do not feel attached to. I’ve felt like I belonged to nearly every different Order (minus the Bondsmiths & Stonewards) at one point or another. At this point, I wish spren were real so that one could reveal itself to me & therefore end my doubt on the matter!

It’s very strange to me to feel such a strong affinity towards the Knights Radiant while also not feeling drawn towards a specific Order, as others seem to be. When I see this topic discussed on the forums or on Reddit, most seem very firm as to what Order speaks to them personally. I do not. Does anyone else feel this way as well, or am I some sort of Radiant outlier? I would love to hear your input!

  3. Although I'm sure there is more than just this, here is my guess:

"The death is my life, the strength becomes my weakness, the journey has ended."

    >>
"I'm standing over the body of a brother. I'm weeping. Is that his blood or mine? What have we done?"

    >>

"A man stood on a cliffside and watched his homeland fall into dust. The waters surged beneath, so far beneath. And he heard a child crying. They were his own tears."

    >>

"I'm cold. Mother, I'm cold. Mother? Why can I still hear the rain? Will it stop?"

    >>

" Light grows so distant. The storm never stops. I am broken, and all around me have died. I weep for the end of all things. He has won. Oh, he has beaten us."

    >>

"The darkness becomes a palace. Let it rule! Let it rule!"

    List of Death Rattles

  4. I would say either Yolish magic (which to be fair is apparently broken now) or Surgebinding, based on how dangerous they are regarded in the narrative.

"Powers that we have been forbidden to touch ... Dangerous powers, of spren and Surges" Oathbringer Ch. 111

"Surge of Cohesion, cousin to microkinesis, is far less explosive of a power ... bounded by Honor to prevent the mistakes that happened on Yolen" RoW Ars Arcanum

Etc etc. Surgebinding in particular is regularly referenced as very dangerous in a way that, say, Feruchemy isn't.

  5. The next episode on The Stormlight 5 Prologue is delayed until May 7th because it's a bit long & is taking more time to edit. I believe Shardcast is returning to episodes every two weeks soon as well, so this could just be the start of that.

  6. I've actually had this same thought about Kaladin, but I agree with @KaladinWorldsinger, it is more than likely Wax. I compiled some quotes about it.

    Quote

I have begun searching for a pathway out of this conundrum by seeking the ideal person to act on my behalf. Someone who embodies both Preservation and Ruin. A … sword, you might say, who can both protect and kill.

(Harmony) - Rhythm of War, Chapter 29

    Quote

"I'm not Harmony's hands", Wax whispered. "I'm his sword."

(Wax) - Shadows of Self, Chapter 25

    Quote

The only way I can fight the Voidbringers is to pretend there's a difference between the ones I have to protect and the ones I have to kill.

    (Kaladin) - Oathbringer, Chapter 20

    Quote

He had been delivered up to the sky, and had found magnificence there. He'd been given the power to protect and defend.

    (Kaladin) - Oathbringer, Chapter 73

There's actually way more than this for both characters. If Wax wasn't around, I would definitely say Kaladin is at the top of Harmony's list.

  7. Would it be possible to manufacture an item that worked identically to any given Honorblade? Let’s try to figure it out.

    • Rosharan Fabrials can replicate Surges, but do not grant the ability to Surgebind. I wanted to mention this just so it doesn't seem like I intentionally overlooked it.

Ok, now we have an object that looks like an Honorblade, cuts like an Honorblade, and grants the ability to Surgebind… But only while you are physically touching it. How can we rectify this?

    Bondsmithing

I am not even going to expand on this one. I'm pretty sure an Unchained Bondsmith could do anything.

     Aonic Connection

I believe it would be possible to 'program' a Blade using Aons to artificially Bond it to the wielder, making it able to be dismissed & summoned again. There is no direct evidence for this, I am merely speculating.

    Physical Link

Some sort of 'bungee cord' that keeps the wielder touching the Blade even if it's knocked from their grasp? The biggest flaw with this system is that it does not grant powers unless making physical contact with the skin of the user. If the wielder is using Gravitation to fly and the Blade is knocked from their grasp, they instantly stop flying (or.. falling the wrong way). The odds of recovering the Blade whilst falling seem pretty low to me. Seems like an easy counter, though not insurmountable.

We are close, but not quite there yet. All my solutions are pretty bad. Does anyone have any ideas, or something I've overlooked?

Just wanted to quote to tag you, love this take. Very interesting. Although the Everstorm currently coexists with the highstorms, so something there would have to change.

The Silence Above would make a fantastic title for SA5, sometimes I wish we weren't beholden to the ketek naming scheme...

Are there any other Rosharan elements that people can spot in Vasher's actions?

A small & tongue-in-cheek detail is that Vasher chose 'Zahel' deliberately to indicate his divine heritage as a Returned, with 'Zahel' being linguistically close to 'Nahel'.

Not to take away from the point of your post (which is quite good), I think Vasher is just exceptional at using the tools at his disposal to their fullest extent. He is a master of creative applications. It reminds me of SP4

    Spoiler

how we see Sigzil use Aux in numerous ways as .. well.. an auxiliary tool, and not simply a weapon.

I do still believe in that, but they're more vague. In Stormlight 1, there's a set of things called Death Rattles, which are...the best, for Wheel of Time fans, the best mimic you have for them is probably Min's visions. They are little hints of what's to come. And those are embedded for things that happen all the way through the ten books. And, you know, I've done...done things like that.

On the contrary, I do think this is explicitly about the Death Rattles. And there are a few that to my eyes seem related, and none of which that we can satisfactory tie an event to ... Yet.

I actually have a theory related to this called the Lighthouse, which you can find linked. I will paste Death Rattles here.

    • The day was ours, but they took it. Stormfather! You cannot have it. The day is ours. They come, rasping, and the lights fail. Oh, Stormfather!
    • Above silence, the illuminating storms—dying storms—illuminate the silence above.
    • So the night will reign, for the choice of honor is life…
    • Light grows so distant. The storm never stops. I am broken, and all around me have died. I weep for the end of all things. He has won. Oh, he has beaten us.
    • I'm cold. Mother, I'm cold. Mother? Why can I still hear the rain? Will it stop?

Again, these all seem to be referring to a single event. A storm without end, that does not renew spheres with Stormlight.

Is it possible that Renarin’s fits were actually autistic meltdowns?

This would fit with Roshar’s lack of psychiatric knowledge.

Although Roshar is perhaps lacking in psychiatric care, their medical knowledge is very well-developed (all things considered). I just wanted to point out that Kaladin, a home-schooled surgeon from a backwater village, knows enough to diagnose Renarin's symptoms as symptomatic myoclonic seizures, as opposed to the many other types of involuntary muscle seizure.

I'd also like to say that I disagree with the terminology here. 'Autistic meltdown' feels pejorative.

Anyway, I think the answer is no. Renarin's Radiance fixed his epilepsy. It did not cure him from being on the autism spectrum, something that from his perspective does not need to be "fixed".

    10) Messanger-Hoid was VERY surprised to see Shallan

Was thinking about this the other day, I feel like very little can truly shock Hoid to the point where he is flustered as we see him in this scene, if only briefly.

My first thought was that Shallan is a spitting image of Chana ... However

In OB Jasnah mentions that Hoid has provided detailed drawings of all the Heralds. If Shallan resembled Chana so closely, wouldn't Jasnah have immediately recognized that too?

    Hmmmm.

And he ends by telling Gavilar that he won't trust the Kholins again, then immediately goes and bonds Dalinar.

I believe Dalinar only begins to bond the Stormfather after his visit to Cultivation, after which he is a very different person. Could be that the Stormfather saw that and changed his mind?

The words of the Oathpact are hidden in the Way of Kings. My brain feels like its rattling.

I am still confused by this part I think. So is it:

    - 'The Words' the Stormfather mentioned are the Bondsmith Oaths, or at least ideas that would put you in the right mindset to speak them?

    - The literal words of the Oathpact are within the text of The Way of Kings?

I'm just happy to be involved with your awesome theory Tekno :D for what it's worth I think we got confirmation of this today.

The Stormfather reporting a Herald dying the same year Shallan killed her mother is ... too much of a coincidence to not be the case, I think.

I think it is noteworthy. Perhaps it has something to do with finding a way to travel offworld with a spren.

Possible, but I think it has more to do with Aux being "dead", whatever that means now.

Recall in SP3, Design appeared in the Physical Realm (made visible by a Lightweaving) but in her Spren form. There was that funny line about her kinda wanting her face to unravel & reveal the symbol head.

  17. Please correct me but I don't believe I've seen anyone mention this; Is Aux partially stuck in the Physical Realm? It seems like, although they are able to speak in Sigzil's mind from a distance, we never see Aux get dismissed in the way that spren usually are. We never see Aux's "spren form".

Although Sig can apparently summon Aux to his hand, it's always in the form of one object or another. Once changed to an object, Aux stays in that form until changed again.

Probably not hugely consequential, and probably just related to whatever deadeye thing seems to be going on, but I thought I'd point it out. Seems distinct from what we know about deadeyes right now.

Exemplifying the oaths does not preclude you from a bond. Prime example is Szeth. He advanced through some of the skybreaker oaths far faster than others for that reason.

The Knights Radiant are all about growing as a person. Becoming better. I don't think Lirin needs to grow in the same way that most Windrunners do, but that does not mean he couldn't fit into another order, or even just further along in the Windrunner chain. Good point.

I think the force fields are just a more advanced application of Lightweaving.

Could be something special Hoid is doing, given he is a Rosharan and Yolish Lightweaver. Some sort of resonance there that gives his illusions more weight?

So don't now if this will count as spoilers or not so

Yeah me either, so I am going to spoiler this as well. Sorry I'm late to this topic, but I love talking about firearms so I'm gonna chime in!

    Spoiler

So the way I think of this is essentially two-fold. Two separate main ideas have influenced how "Shardgun" technology has developed on Roshar.

    1. Roshar got the idea of firearms from somewhere else.
I think this is a no-brainer. Given how distinctly weird Roshar's technological development has been, it is basically inconceivable that they would invent a firearm that looks similar to the ones we are familiar with. In other words, if Roshar came up with this technology independently, it wouldn't look exactly like a long-barrel revolver. The odds of that are very, very low, in my opinion. The only way a Rosharan would have a "gun" in a shape that we would recognize as such is if they were copying another technology.

This is a little bit of a stretch, but if I had to guess, I would assume that post-Stormlight 5 Roshar copied Wax & Wayne era gunsmithing tech. Copying technology from later then this would probably have produced a different result.

    2. What about the string?

Syl comments to Kaladin at one point that she thinks she could turn into a bow, but that she wasn't sure what they'd use for a string. Similarly: the problem, as someone astutely pointed out above, is that a spren can seemingly only form into a single piece of metal. No moving parts, which are necessary to our typical firearms.
The solution, I think, relates to my point above; the Shardgun isn't a real firearm, it just looks like one.
Rosharans copied the concept of firearms, not the mechanical function. I believe that when forming a Shardgun, the spren merely transforms into a specific kind of fabrial, one that uses the power pack we see the Radiant attach to perform a specific function.

What the gun does, we can only guess. Within my theory, this is a fabrial, so any expression of surge is theoretical possible (perhaps depending on the Order of Radiant?). Perhaps this gun shoots tiny bolts of lightning, or hardened shards of Soulcast glass, or beams of concentrated light.
