    Well, I guess he was. either him or some random person whose fulltime job is asking people what their motivations are for going on a quest. "Yeah, #1 rule of being on a quest: expect the unexpected, and then be shocked anyways. I have a few campfire stories I could tell, if I have to. Or maybe we'll be attacked by monsters or something in the middle of the night."

    Nameless took off the dark cloak. "Yeah, it is old. How're you doing, by the way? It's good to see you again." "Ah. That's interesting. Well, I guess that kind of thing is kind of expected on a quest like this." He glanced at the setting sun. "I'll get a fire going. Do you guys know any good campfire stories?"

    "Very well. Your reasons are valid. Of course, most are." The figure disappeared, and then the ground around them melted into a regular landscape. Darryl glanced at them. "Hi guys! what took you so long to come through the portal? I found a spot to camp for the night."

    "That knowledge is his to share. Or not." The figure glanced at him suspiciously.

    "His motivations are clear. He knows why he goes on this quest. With you, it is not so clear."

    "So you wish to gain glory in the eyes of your sister?"

    "So you simply wish to have something to do?"

    "Why do you wish to go on a quest?"

    "It depends on your answers to my question."

    But the Sun God was already dead.

    A voice spoke from behind them. "He is not. You will see him shortly, assuming I let you continue on your... 'quest'."

    Fixed it just too late. On the other side of the portal was an empty plane of darkness. Darryl was nowhere to be seen.

    Darryl stepped through the portal and disappeared.

    "Well, I would say we should go through that random portal over there." Darryl pointed to the portal in question, which was swirling with green energy.

    "All right. Let's go for the temple of blades. We should have plenty of adventures along the way, and reaching the temple is considered a great achievement."

    "Well, you're not narrators, but I'd guess that you're completely immune to DS right now. As for a quest... Hm. I know the location of a few legendary weapons. We could seek out the temple of blades. Or we could find some magical elixir, or slay a monster of some kind. Or we could undertake a quest to answer the meaning of life. Is there anything in particular that you wanted to do?"

    "Yeah, he is the only narrator, but you guys seem to be connected pretty strongly to narrators, and at least one Author has interest in your sister. It's almost the same thing."

    "Well, I'm not too worried about DS right now. People surrounded by narrators rarely die to it."

    He slew hordes of enemies, but he knew that he could not kill them all by himself.

    Darryl glanced down at his hand. "Hey, I can almost see the tips of my fingers again!"

    "Well, until then, what should we do?"

    "Yes, I suppose it does mean that. I hope she gets her memories back soon. Do you think she'll ever visit?"

    Darryl paused, considering. "Yes, I suppose it does."
