The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
NameIess replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
The withergeist fled, terrified, back into the depths of the Void. Another presence touched the barrier. Merely touched, and yet darkness seeped through the wall, tendrils of shadow creeping towards 9/10. A voice reverberated through the room. “You have made two mistakes, 9/10mmHB#2. You tried to make yourself a threat to me, in order to ‘gain respect’ from me and the others of the Thread. Succeeding, in some small way, only heightens the foolishness of this mistake. Your second mistake, of course, was leaving Inkwell alive to tell me of your actions. I have come to deal with you, 9/10mmHB#2, for you have made it impossible for me to ignore you. — “Happy to help.” Unintelligible said. He was, for some reason, holding a baseball bat. “Could you make me a spacesuit? I can’t survive in space without one.”- 111813 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)

In general they can destroy as well as Narrators create (when bonded to a mortal/empowered like Fog is), including destroying reality itself. They can wield powers over death, shadows, and that sort of thing, including creating dark constructs. More specific to Fog in her position is her ability to draw strength from the Witherlord to accomplish feats of destruction greater than Narrator's creation and become too powerful for almost any Ennuller to completely suppress. A nameless withergeist floated at the edge of a bubble of hateful reality, and exulted. It was found! The place of not-light, light-within-contained! Many withergeists had searched, but it had found the place! Cautiosly, the withergeist placed its claws against the edge of reality and began to tear gashes in it. Tiny splinters of darkness began spreading across one wall of 9/10's Primsite-containing pocket dimension, as the withergeist slowly broke in. The Witherlord smiled. "Yes. You are beaten." He held Malevolence to the sky, and called out in a booming voice. "You see this, Rebus? This version of you, beaten, defeated, despairing? Remember him. Plot against me as you wish. You will end the same." The Witherlord gather his power, darkened dynessence swelling around him as he drew back Malevolence and thrust the Blade through Symbol's chest. The abandoned character perished without a sound, destroyed by the surging darkness. But the Witherlord did not stop there. He summoned the full brunt of his power, sending it outward through the planet, sending it upwards to the heavens above. A found of darkness exploded from him, a final gift left behind as he vanished back to the Void. To the use of power on such a grand scale, the dynessence responded. As the Witherlord's power raced outward, spreading corruption across the entire sea, it moved against a rushing current and rising wave. Every drop of dynessence on the planet converged on the source of that unfathomable power, rising in a wave that stretched to the heavens in what would have been a awe-inspiring, terrifying sight if there was any light by which to see it. Left alone in darkness, Rebus and Keys heard only the Witherlord's laughter and the rushing wind of their oncoming doom. "Journal?" Lyric asked confusedly. "Of what journal do you speak?" Well, neither were my handiwork. Blame the fool who dreamed of-oh blast, I'm being deactiva- A voice called up into the Night. "Hey! Do you... need help? I'd like to help." It was not long before Aelinor spied a shifty-looking individual, wearing a cloak and moving covertly through the trees.- 111813 replies

Unintelligible shrugged. "I... guess I'll go find whoever's trying to stop the Witherlord, and join them." Nameless turned the bags inside out. "These were just normal bags. I was making a point, not stealing them immediately. If I were going to do that, I would've emptied them first." Reality around Inkwell tore itself apart, the pain fading as the Void enveloped him. The Witherlord's attention turned on him, reading his memories, seeing what Inkwell had seen. Concern blossomed in the Witherlord's mind and his presence vanished, leaving Inkwell floating in the Void between worlds. Lyric blinked. Where was he? Was that a man made of metal? How odd. This place was much different from his forest. How had he come here? He turned around and started wandering off, with the vague intention of finding his forest. "That extra time has been spent." The dark dynessence around the Witherlord shot forth, wrapping tendrils around Symbol and lifting her into the air. "She will die, and the whole Thread after." The Witherlord smiled. "I hope it was worth it." A note appeared from Nameless, indicating that he had no intentions of getting his core ripped out and used to create a Luxite Blade. And also that it wouldn't work anyways, as his core was Authorially protected. Angry Nameless noises followed him. -- A nameless withergeist flew through the Void, searching. Searching for a place of power, a place of light-contained and not-light and not-real but real. This withergeist did not know why it wanted to find this place, but it searched nonetheless. It was good at searching, and would find the hateful light-contained. It would find it soon.- 111813 replies

Very little of that actually happened. The Subversion that appeared in front of Fog was a dummy with googly eyes and a sloppy smile drawn on. The dummy began whacking Fog upside the head with a squeaky hammer. The Witherlord was silent while he parsed what Fog had been trying to do. You think, he finally said incredulously, that I am capable of forcibly summoning Narrators from wherever they hide, disabling their powers, and holding them at my mercy? He sighed, and continued in a tone of forced patience. If I could do that, there would be no Narrators left. Rebus would have been the first to go, followed by every other Narrator, then every other character. I would have no need of a lieutenant, for I would have already won. I was encouraging you to use Fog's withergeist abilities, not godmod my characters lol. Okay, as long as he's not recreating Luxsprite society or drowning the Witherlord in an ocean of Luxite. "Yes, it's quite annoying." Nameless said. "I should be allowed free reign, but in truth, I don't think my Author likes me very much. But as for me simple being 'given power'..." He held up two paper bags and waggled them at 9/10. "At least I only got one Narrator's worth when I was activated."- 111813 replies

"No one. This is my purpose: To address situations like the one we find ourselves in. My core has been reactivated by my Author, for a limited time only." Nameless paused, squinting as if trying to make something out. "To address your Author's response, I would point out that, first of all, the process seems to be more dramatically more efficient than any other method of obtaining Luxite, including the converter which was made with Luxite. Second of all, I would point out that the efficiency hardly matters, since your Author also gifted you with enough Prismite and Nullite to replicate your experiment a hundred times over. Third of all, I would point out that there are consequences to such achievements like these, and I do not believe you have entirely thought them through." I get that as a flaw, 9/10's thing is that he can undermine the story and the usual laws that govern it, but I think that there should be some drawbacks to his process beyond inefficiency when in truth, he has the resources to make an absurd amount of Luxite. Like, Rebus's plan involves killing/stealing the powers of multiple Narrators to make a Luxite blade, while 9/10 can just... make one. Probably two or three, honestly. Something like the Luxite created being false, or flawed in some way related to 9/10's nature would balance it better, I think. The ground went straight through Subversion as if she wasn't there. A massive tesla cannon appeared, blasting out lightning meant to arc through all the Fog copies. The Author who sent Subversion matters not. You rely on your Ennulling and Narrating far too much. They are petty toys, inconsequential compared to the true powers of destruction you now have access to. Continue to rely on them, and you prove yourself unworthy to be my right hand.- 111813 replies

"All the stories you've destroyed, you mean?" Nameless did not fidget. Fidgeting did not progress the story, and was a waste of time. "As you wish to destroy this one. Creating so much Luxite so easily... you are well on track." He took a nonthreatening step towards 9/10. "I am similar to you, in that we share a similar perspective on the world and metanarrative whatnot. I am different from you, in that I care very much about the veracity of the story. The... powerbalance, so to speak. And you, my dear friend, are threatening that balance."- 111813 replies

Nameless frowned, eyes growing even colder. "I'm not that idiot. I'm the superior Nameless, a version preserved at the height of my power (read: the height of his poor character development) preserved for when I am needed." He took a step towards 9/10. Outside of 9/10's door, tapping his foot impatiently, was a man. The man was certainly not Subversion. He was broad-shouldered and tall, with messy brown hair atop his head. The man turned, sensing 9/10's presence. "Ah! There you are." He smiled, though it did not reach his eyes. His eyes were blue, and utterly empty. They were the eyes of a dead man. "Nice to meet you, 9/10. I'm NameIess."- 111813 replies

Subversion folded her arms and gave 9/10mmHB#2 a flat look. "Right. I meant, what are you doing with the Nullite and Prismite?" "That sounds like an excellent plan." Said Lyric. "Good luck with it. Subversion folded her arms. "I'm the reaction. What in the world are you doing?" Lyric shook his head in mock disappointment, inwardly rejoicing that he had no idea where to find these Shadows of Law. "I'm afraid I've been living in the wilderness for... quite some time."- 111813 replies

A hundred spears of light appeared, each stabbing straight for a different Fog's head. "What, not going to give me a hint? I'm in favor of summoning a sun and throwing you into it right now, but I'm not certain that would be painful enough." Subversion said with a cocky grin. "What's your take?" The Witherlord, with nothing better to do while he waited for Rebus to reply to him, was watching events through the eyes of his minions. He noticed Fog's predicament, and was displeased. What is this? The Witherlord's voice boomed in Fog's mind. You are caught by your own petty Ennulling tricks? How can this be? The Witherlord was silent a moment as he reviewed the battle in Fog's memories. Perhaps this weakness is leftover from your... previous experiences with the art. But it is an intolerable weakness nonetheless. What need have you of Ennulling? What power does a mere device hold over you? I have given you power beyond that of any Enuller, any Narrator. My power. Use it, and end this farce. "Well... if they're peacekeepers, perhaps you should simply ask to get him back." Lyric pointed out. "I doubt you'd be able to rescue him by force. No offense, but you don't seem to be much of a warrior." Lyric looked sideways at Iromem. It sounded like he wanted to fight these 'shadows of law', which, in his opinion, sounded like a terrible idea. Someone knocked politely on the cabin door.- 111813 replies

Sleight of hand and illusions. Subversion dissolved into smoke as Fog's strikes hit her. Two versions of her reformed behind Fog, smiling broadly. The blood was gone from her forehead. "Doesn't this feel much more fair?" One of the Subversions darted in, stabbing at Fog with her Narrationblade. "Now, any ideas as to how I can kill you?" Lyric nodded, confused and worried. If these shadows had anything to do with Withergeists...- 111813 replies

The stone transformed into dust as well, superallergenic dust that attacked Fog in a vicious attempt to make her sneeze. Subversion held up Fog's personal Nullifying machine. "My my, doesn't that mean you're powerless and I'm not?" She laughed, summoning up an army of metal ants, which burrowed away into the ground immediately.- 111813 replies

Subversion activated her own personal nullifying machine, with machinery copied during the brief period of the larger machine’s deactivation, and Nullite stolen from that machine’s wreckage. “Much better.” a dozen metal ostriches swarmed Fog, kicking at her Mordite blades and generally making nuisances of themselves.- 111813 replies

Subversion deflected the blow with her Narrationblade, stepping to the side to reveal the broken remnants of the nullifying machine, which had been utterly destroyed by the metal spike. Subversion smiled, a tiny trickle of blood making its way down her face from the cut on her forehead. "Now, where were we? Oh yeah, I was going to use the power of friendship." She frowned. "Actually, I don't think I'll bother. I'm sorry for whatever specific events lead you to being this way, but considering you've killed two people, one of them a child, I think you're a bit far past redemption." She swung her Narrationblade at Fog's head.- 111813 replies

Not anymore, but he had old posts saved from before the mods disabled scraping. The blade stabbed through Subversion’s head with barely any resistance. Her head crumbled into black ash, and she collapsed backwards without a sound, dead too quickly to send a fanciful final message to the Thread. Her body dropped limply to the ground, dead. “I hope you feel bad about yourself.” Said Subversion from behind Fog. “Murdering me before I had a chance to try turning you good with the power of friendship.” She shook her head disapprovingly. “For shame.” “Oh? Yeah, I probably will. And the traveler posts were easy, compared to my earlier search attempts. @xinoehp512 sent me a filtered thing of all your posts on TLT. Subversion sighed. "I said could you please get a bit closer? I'd like to be inside your personal Nullifying field. But I'll have to make do." Subversion's Narrationblade shot out from the stone as a chain, wrapping around Fog's misty wrist. The parts of the Blade that touched Fog glowed and the stone around Subversion shattered, transforming into massive, sharpened metal spike that launched straight through her opponent. Well, I'm off to bed.- 111813 replies

Yay! All it took was looking through every one of your posts that mentioned the traveler. Also, wow, I actually like some of my posts from back then. I should get the Priest back out sometime. Subversion was ready for the chains this time, managing to get her Blade up and under them before they snapped into place. "I suppose you could say I absorbed her." With a swipe of her Narrationblade, Subversion was free. She batted the blade away from her neck and took a step back. "Or that she absorbed me. She was me, the parts that cared the most. She played her part, as did I, and now we're whole again." Meanwhile, behind Fog, several hummingbirds flitted around the Nullifying machine. One of them had landed on it, and was busily pecking a hole to get at the delicate internal machinery.- 111813 replies
