  1. Highly unlikely. I am too evil to die in most circumstances. "A journal and writin' implements?" The woman scowled and took a step back towards the door. "You wouldn' happen to be one of those Nar-rating types, would yah? Don't serve no Nar-ratin' types here." "Fair enough." Malevolence said. "Perhaps I'll give you Antagonist, after ripping it from Rebus's pathetic clutches." He grinned. "Shall I be on my way?"
  2. Just problem-shooting! I’m sure he could find a workaround.
  3. Malevolence hesitated. The offer was tempting, but… ”I… do not believe I can accept your offer.” He said reluctantly. “I cannot interrupt my plans, and the requirements would be too easily exploited by my enemies. Rebus could, for example, force me into a direct confrontation at any time, simply by attempting to claim a Plotblade I am sworn to protect. Further, he or others could use that to distract me when my plans require undiverted attention.” The villain’s grip tightened on Darkseeker, uncertain whether the Guardians would attempt to kill him now that their offer was refused. ”I will say this: I am intrigued by your offer, and your organization. I am willing to help you find someone who is willing to join you, or to help you test candidates. I simply am not able to commit myself to your organization as a full member.” Mordite would destroy both Cognitive and physical structure.
  4. “What part of my soul?” Asked Malevolence. “And how often would I be needed? Only in situations like this, where someone is… ‘attempting’ to claim a Plotblade?”
  5. “Will my mind be affected overly much by this position?” Malevolence questioned further. Inwardly, he considered his options. Accepting this deal would place him under the control of an outside force. But he had served others before. It would be a step back, certainly, but better to step back then to leap off a cliff. If he refused this offer, it would be very difficult to fight free. Without an option to retreat, tired as he was from fighting so many opponents… Still, better to die in evil than abandon his ideals. ”Would I still be free to follow my own plans? Or would my duties as a Guardian of Plot preclude all else?”
  6. You seem to be under the impression that I will die here. Why is that? “Indeed. I shall deal with him later, once I have finished my current business.” “I second Fog’s question. Which Plotblade?” “Hello Bob.” A deep, overly confident voice spoke from behind Bob. “Having trouble with the wind?” Darkseeker is not exactly your average Mordite blade. It was made by the Dreamsmith with an inverted bond to Malevolence’s soul. Any Mordite blade (assuming a similar amount of Mordite made it up) could theoretically have similar power (it is a highly potent fundamental metal, after all) but normally those powers cannot be utilized without either bonding the blade (practically guaranteeing soul corruption) or already being aligned with Chaotic darkness. Without a bond, in the hands of an ordinary person, a Mordite blade will be a sword that can kill anyone. It will be resistant to Narration, (as in, a Narrator probably won’t be able to just vaporize it) will give unhealing wounds, and will be generally very good at destroying things. (Long-winded explanation of why the Dreamsmith would make Darkseeker for Malevolence)
  7. "An ordinary man, with a powerful tool. He also has an evil being inhabiting his mind, who I thought could be an ally at one point." Malevolence concentrated summoning black liquid armor from Darkseeker to protect his feet from impalement and make it harder for the Mordite to grab hold of them. This usage of power mattered not in a moment, however, as Malevolence was promptly lifted away from the offending ground. Malevolence coughed, struggling to free himself. "What-" He choked out. "What does joining you entail? What are the remnants of Plot?" Malevolence is not a Withergeist by the way. He has a Mordite blade forged by the Dreamsmith. A large woman burst from the store's front door and smiled in a way that revealed too many teeth. (Literally, in this case. She seemed to have at least twice the normal amount). "Well now, fine sirees. What brings you adventr'rs to my fine est'blishment?" Lyric took a step backwards and turned to Jack, an expression of utmost horror on his face. He leaned in close to his friend and whispered. "I have just remembered something. I am most utterly terrified of interacting with strangers." Omen was a many-tentacled monstrosity in a moment, ever shifting in size. Is this, he wondered, Meat's way of fighting Mischief?
  8. Malevolence met the Guardian's onslaught, spinning Darkseeker artfully as he deflected blow after blow. Despite his skill, he was unable to do more than hold off its blows. He stumbled backwards, cursing softly as his footing was made unstable by Fog's trickery. You can leave, you know. Malevolence pointed out. Inkwell got away just fine. The Guardian will likely allow it since you have not attacked him, and I will certainly not chase you. I am satisfied with my performance thus far. Rebus is far behind in our competition. A drone appeared next to Atreides. "You wanted to talk with me?" Malevolence sounded tired and out of breath. "I'm rather busy at the moment, so make it quick."
  9. Malevolence gave up on cutting himself free, instead quickly entering a set of commands into his armor. He couldn’t use the teleporter without modifying his armor’s energy signature to power down the localized Ennuling field, and couldn't power down the Ennulling field without his armor being destroyed by the Mordite. That left him with only one option. The helm and shoulders of Malevolence’s armor exploded outwards, shattering the Mordite above him and allowing him to eject upwards from what remained of his armor. The villain fell through the air, landing in a roll as the remnants of his armor powered down and teleported away. He struggled to his feet, hefting Darkseeker before him. No armor with which to fight the Guardian will be dangerous. He thought regretfully.
  10. Malevolence raised Darkseeker in a defensive position, but did not yet strike. “Please continue what you were saying. I am curious as to alternate methods of testing.” Caught by surprise, Malevolence was trapped. He growled, maneuvering Darkseeker awkwardly in an attempt to cut himself free.
  11. Malevolence did indeed not notice. And yet you met Stone Chaisler? On two occasions? Was this after you 'went into hiding'?
  12. Ah, my mistake. Malevolence watched Fog curiously. Did I ever meet you before you were Fog? Malevolence paused. "You... want a cup of tea? As in, me making a cup of tea for you could be the challenge?"
  13. Malevolence smiled. And you call me evil? Even I must admit that I find reality comforting compared to the cold reaches of the Void. The Nullite resisted fiercely, requiring a significant expenditure of energy, but began to be corrupted, ever so slowly. Omen also knew all about chaos. The Dreamsmith had told him of it, days before plot became commonplace. The Dreamsmith seemed to find those days nostalgic, but Omen had always thought they sounded awful. "Would you please listen? The Thread could be destroyed! You and everyone you know would be doomed!" "And the challenge is defeating you?" Malevolence asked carefully. "I'd hate to waste effort if that's not the case." I would say no. Bonding a withergeist normally involves them inhabiting your body. And also a specific agreement to do so.
  14. Interesting. I had thought you would see reality as terrible and my goals as admirable, now that your transformation is complete. No abilities to create things from chaotic light or manipulate reality (which is made of Chaotic Light, hence why Chaotic Light aligned Narrators can control it), but able to corrupt/destroy reality (Which could be similar to manipulating it in effect), manipulate Mordite (although she's still be vulnerable to it), and create chaotic-dark constructs (although that could be draining outside of the Void between worlds). She would also gain an aversion to reality (the Void is much nicer) and light (for thematic reasons, although she's far far too powerful to be destroyed by simple light). With a bond, her powers get stronger, since she's insulated from the hateful influence of reality. Whoever she bonds will inevitably be corrupted, eventually becoming a withergeist themselves. Malevolence couldn't help but smile at the evilness of that particular rule. No explanation of the Plotblade HQ's location? Necessitating hand-delivery from those trapped in a duel to the death? Truly, that was a gem of bureaucratic evil. "Perhaps I will do so, after you are defeated. Still, I would like some assurance that after I defeat this form, I will be able to claim my prize." Malevolence considered his next move carefully. This new form of the Guardian seemed very fast, and very destructive. His armor would be essential, likely. The armor felt comfortingly dark, but controlled, channeled. It would resist her influence, though how strongly she could not tell without attempting to corrupt it.
  15. Rebus and Malevolence agreed to compete with each other, finding a person/group to villainize. Inkwell, Fog, Ribbon and that group were who they decided on.
  16. Ah. I take it your transformation has not changed your dislike of me? Malevolence would argue that unless he'd instigated his and Rebus's competition, Inkwell would not have been so antagonized by Rebus, and would therefore not have committed to resisting him.
  17. "If you're thinking of bonding me, don't bother. I'm not willing to do so, and you can't force it." Malevolence grinned behind his helmet. "Although, I wouldn't be against joining forces." Malevolence spun to face the doubled Guardian. "Why are you so set on defeating me? Why do you even care about my villainy? Should a guardian not be impartial?"
  18. "Because 'villain' is not the same thing as 'antagonist'." Malevolence allowed his armor to absorb the flame, bursting from it to knock the Guardian's Plotblade aside with Darkseeker. "Just look at Rebus's motivation: Survive. He does not really want to dominate the Thread, or anything of the like." Malevolence spun around the Guardian, slashing Darkseeker toward his back as he continued his rant. "He is only 'evil' because he thinks being the Antagonist will ensure his survival! Why does he want the Witherlord? Because he is required to seek it out by an agreement he made. What does he plan to do with the Witherlord mantle? Ensure his own defeat! He's a pathetic waste of a villain, a waste of a character!" Malevolence shouted, breathing hard. "He's held Antagonist for more than two hundred and fifty pages, and what is the result? nothing! Everyone on this Thread should be cowering in fear, fighting him desperately, or dead! And yet, until I acted, hardly a single character was even so much as opposing him! Cricket had always been his enemy. But who else truly tried to oppose him? How can The Antagonist not even inspire the SLIGHTEST resistance?" Malevolence took a breath, and some measure of calm returned to his voice. "I am not the Antagonist. But I am a greater villain than he. For I care about nothing other than attaining the depths of true evil. When I am the Witherlord, this Thread will tremble at my name as it never has at Rebus's. I will not merely plot ways to increase interaction and 'improve the story'. I will burn this Thread to the ground and destroy every living soul within it." A drone appeared beside Malevolence, blinking in warning. "My my," He murmured. "This should be interesting."
  19. "I had wondered if my teleportation was blocked merely due to my Author's presumption. Very well, let us battle." Malevolence's drones disappeared and he raised Darkseeker. "Know that I will not die here. You call me insignificant? I am the greatest villain this Thread has ever seen! I will become evil incarnate, claiming the powers of the Witherlord and bringing this Thread to its knees! I will destroy you and the useless Blade you guard!" Malevolence leapt into the air with a mechanized whirr, falling from the sky towards the Guardian, swinging Darkseeker for his head. It could affect her emotions, making her depressed/angry and whatnot. But basically whatever you decide would be thematic. Would probably not be too pronounced until the corruption was nearly complete. Is that her corrupting her core?
  20. The Soft Blade? Nullite isn't indestructible. Malevolence is using it mainly to prevent Narration from affecting him, although protecting him from other magics is a benefit as well. It does prevent him from using any external magics, such as using Darkseeker's powers. which is part of why he wasn't using the armor until now. If Nullite had a 'weakness' it would be Enullers, who could control it as well as Narrators control Prismite (which is what their cores are made of). "Well," Malevolence said. "You're certainly very powerful. However, I, like 9/10, have no desire to claim your Blade. So... goodbye." A portal back to Malevolence's base appeared in the ground, and he ran for it. It could have some effect, but the corruption wouldn't automatically spread from Fog to Ribbon.
  21. Malevolence blocked this blow with Darkseeker yet again, then leapt backwards as a pair of drones appeared, firing Ennulling rays at the Guardian. A drone appeared and began attempting to suck Fog up into a Nullite container.
  22. Malevolence sighed. "Then I will deal with this stupid prophecy's consequences, whatever they may be." He twisted to the side as time returned to its normal flow, causing the blade to miss his heart. Well then, you should tell your Author that it's rather confusing to name two characters so similarly. And that she should really give some better hints out about your identity. Nullite does not necessarily produce an anti-magic field, although it can be used to nullify powers. It is itself almost impossible to affect with Narration or other magics, and has a Silencing effect, hence why the vibrations didn't get through it. Malevolence's armor is built to be insulated so that it does not affect him, and also doesn't run on Stormlight, which he was only using to heal. Malevolence was glad that the Guardian was finally paying attention to the others in the arena. It was about time.
  23. You were once known as Mist. Malevolence communicated. You adventured with Amethyst, whom I suspect was Stone, and one other. Your original name, if you had one before mist, is lost to me. I cannot read memories that deep through such a weak connection.
  24. "Even my death will not stop it." Whispered Malevolence. "You will turn, and you will destroy everyone you've ever loved."
  25. "Never heard of it. Perhaps you could tell me the phrasing?"
