What gave that away? Was it the fact their boss is from Scadrial, the book naming a bunch of planets, or the fact Mraize literally says they are the most dangerous group in all the Cosmere? XD

IKR, I am a genius for discovering this.

Mom so excited to see what Brandon has planned, the more I read the more questions I have.

Bless my cousin Zane for forcing SLA on me.

She is special, no doubt, but I don't think that was enough for the Ghostbloods to outright kidnap her. They could've tried to recruit her. Mraize specifically wanted her caught, and I don't think he could until she attacked his bird and broke some rule/code that let him retaliate. That line, 'I've been waiting for an excuse', really gets my spidey sense tingling that way.

That’s a good point, it does seem fishy. I guess we can’t know for sure. I mean, we don’t even know Mraize’s real name!!! I get the feeling that the the Ghostbloods are not just a Stormlight thing.

It will be not possible thought if all Investitures in their axonic levels are made of up similar types of axons because in end that is 'matter' and the other 'anti-matter'

But we can make such Antivoidlight-Stormlight hybrids provided their sub-axons follow same properties as our standard model and given they are 'different axons'. Take this: An electron whose anti-particle is positron will annihilate each other but an electron and anti-proton will not annihilate because both come under different categories of sub-atomic particles. An anti-proton and electron only have similar charge while an anti-proton is thousand times more heavier than electron but they won't destroy each other. So if these two Investitures in their core are made up of different sub-axons then they can be combined. Think about 'Neutronium' or a neutron star made up of only one kind of sub-atomic particle.

And if we can hypothesize 'Antivoidlight' as mirror matter of Stormlight then they can combine through weak fundamental interactions! Although that's far-fetched and it would give mirror electric charges (Antivoidlight) a very small ordinary electric charge(Stormlight).

That's a really good point, and I'm not sure if this would be useful in any way to our heroes, but I think that if Brandon wants he would follow rule of cool. Although many people are comparing the Antilights to antimatter, I think that the comparison may be inaccurate; Antilight and Light are made of the same thing- which is investiture. There are all kinds of exceptions that can be made for investiture, and I think that Brandon has set a precedent for the merging of different Shard's investiture.

That fact she can make Lifelight may give hesitance to the Ghostbloods when wondering what to do with her. Like, I am sure that Dalinar is off the table as a target, as well as few others, they are pivotal to fighting Odium, who they also would like to lose the war. Like, Mraize knew of her abilities (I believe he tells Raboniel this when he gives her to him) and why else would he want to hunt Lift in particular? The only thing unique about her is her ability to make lifelight.

Yes, but even as they likely wouldn't kill her, they still would likely make apprehending her a priority as she was one of 2 functioning Radiants in the tower. Her powers were instrumental in the reclaiming of the tower, though I guess the Fused and the Ghostbloods had no way of knowing that.

  5. That's an interesting observation. I was just looking at the passage and, though I don't quite get the vibe that Mraize was explicitly told not to hunt Lift, I think that it's plausible he was told not to go out of his way to find/ apprehend her. I don't think she is that important to the Ghostbloods, I doubt Kelsier would have heard of Lift specifically all the way on Scadrial. Then again, perhaps she will be his new small daughter.

  6. So as I am listening to the Shardcast Lights episode, I am beginning a theory. The cast was talking about hybrid Lights, and I began to wonder what would happen if you made a hybrid between a normal Light- say, Stormlight- and an Antilight.

Here's what we know: Antivoidlight and Voidight annihilate each other when they come into contact. Stormlight and Voidlight can combine into Warlight, in a sort of harmony. Antilight is made from the original type of Light, using some kind of weird Intent* and maybe vacuum capsules, as well as a tone.

I'm not really sure where I'm going with this, but I think it's possible to make some kind of Antilight-Light hybrid. If this is the case, then perhaps an Antivoidlight-Stormlight hybrid would allow an enlightened radiant like Renarin to use this to become some kind of one-hit warrior who destroys Fused with ease. On the other hand, perhaps it would just become Antiwarlight.

Anyway, I'm super curious to see what could happen with this. Maybe a good question for Brandon's upcoming live stream. Please contact me if you get a WOB!!! If you guys think of other applications for this kind of hybrid, please let me know- this theory is in its infancy.

*Forgive me for any capitalization errors, I was confused before Rythym of War and it has not improved.

  7. So I have a suspicion about the identity of the elusive spren of the Radiant order of Truthwatchers.

In Edgedancer (about a page into chapter six), Lift’s Cultivationspren, Wyndle, mentions a type of spren known as Keenspren.

Context: Lift was talking with a young street urchin, using all kinds of very strange words in odd ways. After the urchin leaves, Wyndle says:

“Mistress, that was the strangest conversation I’ve ever heard, and I once grew an entire garden for some keenspren.”

Truthwatcher’s spren are described as looking like “light reflected onto a surface through a crystal.” And Glys, Renarin’s corrupted spren, looks like a crystalline snowflake growing up from Renarin’s back. Many of the examples of corrupted spren we’ve seen were still recognizable as the type of spren they were.

Keen means sharp, either in mind or as an edge, like a blade. I think this correlates well with what we’ve heard of the spren’s appearance in addition to the traditional personality attributed to the order of Truthwatchers.

I would love to hear other suspicions about the Truthwatcherspren. This is a bit of a pet peeve of mine, so please share your thoughts on my theory!

Highly agree on this point. While I get that BrandoSando is kind of conservative when it comes to this stuff, I'd very much like to have some more outside the box thinking when it comes to the sexuality of characters, especially main characters. Let's see something non-heteronormative. Let's see Jasnah and Kal hook up despite their age difference. Let's see them have a casual relationship without it being formal. Let's see something other than the 'prim-and-proper' Alethi Shallan/Adolin and Dalinar/Navani stuff where it's all about marriage and propriety. Let's have some new dynamics at play.

On this point, I'd love for it to happen in the first half, even the first part but that may be wishful thinking. I know Brandon is self-aware enough that he wants to start trying to flip tropes he has come to be known for on their head, so having Kal have his big power-up moment come earlier on in the book rather than at a crucial, climactic point at the end would be great.

Although I agree with you on the whole trope-changing bit, I think Brandon's too aware of his characters to do that with Kaladin+Jasnah. They just aren't a good

Jasnah is the perfect Alethi lighteyed woman (except for the heresy+swordplay), and I don't think that Kaladin would be anything more than civil toward her at this point in his life. Besides that, Jasnah is very aware of social+political standings, and though Kaladin is a Radiant, with herself being one I doubt she would feel that him being a knight is enough for her. I don't think we'll get a Jasnah romantic arc until the back half, if at all. Although it wouldn't surprise me if she used her single-ness for political reasons.

I agree about Kal with Shardplate, but Brandon has been working up to this moment for too long to make it casual. I honestly would probably be a little disappointed if it wasn't on the scale of the fight with Szeth at the end of WoR at least.

I think that it would be kind of cool if Kaladin stops her, because he had his own almost-suicide scene in tWoK. Personally, I would like to see it in the build-up to his 4th Oath.

Ooh, I hadn't thought of that. I agree! It would be cool if it was kinda paralleled to his.

I am not convinced Rock feels he has a need to return with shards, especially with his religion and being a squire would enlighten him to the disrespectfulness of wielding the corpse of a dead spren.

i like to think Rock will bond with the honor spren ‘Queen’. I forget what her name was, but she accepted Rock’s offering of stormlight.  I think it’d be cool (given how there seems to be something special about him) that he bonds with another spren too, maybe a willshaper.  I know there is a theory he may be a bondsmith candidate as well, this is just an alternative I just came up with.

Ooh I really like that! I had forgotten about that scene, but it could be really cool. I feel like Rock as a character has a lot of potential, and I really can't wait to learn more about him!

  11. We’re gonna get more listener songs.

Bridge four dying/ breaking with Kaladin somehow, possibly over Moash.

Shallan almost-suicide scene. Not Adolin stopping her? Maybe Jasnah or Navani

Navani and Jasnah get in a fight, possibly over Shallan.

Renarin glys reveal, maybe they’re all scared of him. We’ve already had a “shockingly, I don’t kill you” scene, so we need to have something with people NOT trusting him.

Rock goes back to peaks? With his shards?

Hoid and Renarin meet and already know each other.

    Dalinar swears fourth oath

Kaladin really struggles, maybe Hessina dies? (Or Bridge Four)

Gavinir and Jasnah scene, not sure how she will react around kids.

  12. I think this is a really good point. The world of Stormlight is so well thought out and complex. We’re still going to be finding new things decades after the series is over.

I think Rhythm of War is going to be the most diverse book in the series so far, because we’re getting perspectives from people that are on opposing sides, going mad, even dead. I can’t wait to see how Brandon handles it!

Lol. Because none of us have ever gone through an abusive family situation, but heaven knows we've all had our friends murdered so someone could steal something valuable from us when we had already given it to someone else...

I get what you're saying but I burst into laughter when I read that:-)

I think different things are relatable to people. I just empathize with Shallan a lot and understand why she acts the way she does. That doesn't mean that Kaladin isn't the best.

  14.

How can I choose? They are all amazing for different reasons.

Szeth’s storyline and arc is so amazing.

    Wit is a fascinating character.

Shallan is really relatable and interesting.

Kaladin and Dalinar are absolutely epic.

Adolin and Renarin are adorable and I love them and they are so cool.

And Lift. I need not elaborate.

Edit: I forgot Jasnah but I love her secrets and how she sees the world.

  15. Just now, Nameless said:

Well, Syl's explanation was that she was searching for Kaladin, and that she knew he was out there. The Stormfather had a bunch of different candidates, and he was in denial about the bond to begin with.

Yeah that makes sense. Also, I guess the Big Three spren aren’t really the norm on this.

  16. 14 hours ago, Nameless said:

Syl was searching for Kaladin, they were probably connected through the spiritual realm.

Ah yes, that spiritual Mumbo Jumbo.

    *nods knowingly*

So @Nameless, you’re saying that the Nahel spren know who they are going to bond (in a spiritual-realm way) before they transfer from the cognitive realm?

But what about the Stormfather? He seemed pretty surprised when he bonded Dalinar.

  17. So I’ve been bouncing this idea around for a while, and finally decided to type it up.

So we know that Pattern bonded Shallan when she was younger, to the point that she could summon her shardblade (to kill her mum). After this she regresses somehow, possibly due to her self-forgetting stuff.

Another example we know much less about is Tien, Kaladin’s younger brother. We don’t know a lot about what he did in Amaram’s army, but it is implied that he had reached a point in his Ideals that caught the attention of the Skybreakers enough that Nale felt he needed to be eliminated. I personally think he was at the first Ideal, but have little proof to back that up.

So: what are the common threads in these two young lives?

My theory: not their own lies, but the lies of those around them. We know that (Pattern at least) Cryptics are very curious about humans.

Lyrin was hiding the gem theft, and we know that this caused a lot of strife in Hearthstone. Shallan’s mother was involved somehow with the Skybreakers before her death, and Lin was dealing with political issues (or was that just after Shallan’s mum died?) as well as dealing with debts. Also maybe the Ghostbloods. We know that Pattern is interested in the lies of people besides Shallan.

Shallan and Tien are both “the light” of their respective households. The Lightweavers have been described as the “spiritual sustainers” of the Radiants.

They are both artistic, and very curious about the world around them. If Cryptics are the spren of natural forces and the laws of nature, the interests of the spren and the knight would align in this.

A few other parallels I don’t think are relevant:

Shallan and Tien each have depressed older brothers.

They are both interested in the creatures around them.

    They like gentle rains.

Please point out anything that I’ve missed!

  18. Navani and Shallan are gonna get closer.

Taravangian is Odium's new champion, and the compassion side of his boon/curse thing will be important to Odium's downfall.

Lift and Lopen are going to be friends. Pancakes!!!

Kaladin's dad is going to die.

  19. How come no one has mentioned the whole "Rotten Tomato" thing (I can't remember what it's called exactly, I read BoM a while ago.)

That was one of my favorite parts, because I thought it really showcased Wax+Wayne's relationship.

(plus it reminded me of "Get Help" and, come on, is that not amazing?)

And also, the fact that every single one of those ridicules names entailed an entire plan between them.  I LOVE every time they interact!
