Favorite Thing You've Read This Past Year
TheWanderer replied to TheWanderer's topic in General Discussion
Interesting, may I ask for some additional details on how the magic system works? -
Figured this may be more of a fun conversation starter. Open to any who feel like sharing I ask, what is your favorite thing you've read this year (can go back to 2025 up to now)? Can be just about anything, Comics, Literature, Manga, and anything else I did not think of. I could always use more things to add to my TBR and would love to hear what you've enjoyed most and why. Thanks for commenting advance.

Basically just what's one the title. Have not posted in a long while figured I'd say hello to the community and give my well wishes. Feel free to stop by and share good news, interesting stuff you've been reading recently, favorite cosmere quotes, etc. Hope you all had a great weekend.

Clever word play I had not considered. Touche. I can honestly say, I have no idea what you mean. It has been too long since I last seriously thought about mathematics.

Ration Bars, I have very bland taste so I don't mind. Plus if I wait, the chicken may lay some eggs? Also I have not had to completely prepare an animal for consumption in a very long time.

I'll admit I find myself with an abundance of time and a deficit in distractions. I've been here for awhile but have not posted much of late. Largely due to not having any particularly wild theories of late. Even so, feel free to ask me questions at your leisure and I thank you for commenting in advance.

Sorry to hear that, but thank you. I needed to, and it has been good for me overall. -
Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!

Not quite sure how to articulate what is precisely wrong of late. But I am feeling a bit melancholic as I realize I got a birthday coming up soon and well. With my move and everything I have less people in my day to day life than ever. I am overall better off and healthier but still feel unfulfilled and isolated. Thanks to anyone who read this. -
Very kind, thank you. Best of luck on yours as well.

I appreciate the compliment, I will assume that you are referring to writing style more than anything at present. I wish you luck on the homebrew front. Don't do what I did and go to the level of creating your creation myth in the style of Tolkien. I have not even gotten close to the bronze age of one setting. Granted I got 2 or 3 homebrew settings as well. In addition, to an 8 page document for a Mistborn game set prior to the books.

Ah, enjoy it while it lasts. I find the older you get the more the monthly bills just add up.

My sympathies, to you I got busy season coming up for me as well. Sadly we had to let someone go at my job. So I am helping to pick up the slack, mostly grunt work as I am not trained in that department. Sorry to hear your finances are not quite as flush as I am sure we'd all prefer. Hopefully things improve. Hope you enjoy the trip and have a good time.

I do, got 3 novels I tried to write. Sadly, I have yet to work out a magic system that works as well in my head as Brandon's do. As for the kind of tabletop, I used to run Vampire The Masquerade for several years. Now I am transitioning over to D&D albeit heavily homebrewed.

To go in order, 1. Got my copy preordered already. 2. I admit I splurged and got myself a pack. 3. Hope it is a good visit, and that he is less messy than my brother who lives with me.

I got Lightweaver, granted those who know the series and me tend to consistently give other potential orders for me. However, I love to write and storytelling in general. Furthermore, when I ran tabletop games I did often surprise people with my ability to change persona. So I will stick with Lightweaver.

In a bit of a social mood, so I thought I would check in and see how everyone, or at least anyone who cares to comment is doing today. Are you excited for Wind and Truth next month? Have you picked up anything for Light Day? Got any exciting plans for the Holiday season? Feel free to comment any questions you have for me or someone else in turn. Thank you, hope you have a good day.

Hello and welcome to the 17th shard. Hope you enjoy your time here and have many interesting conversations. Since inquiries after greetings seems to be the pattern here. What Radiant Order are you? (Either which one you identify with most, or from the official quiz)

Well I think part of it would revolve around one's personal beliefs. Windrunners could just as easily be villainous depending on where the story focuses. For instance, imagine if someone who killed many singers in a battle later then had to deal with prisoners taken after. You may see the family and friends of those you fought grieving and likely you are the source of their sorrow. May feel fairly villainous, granted they likely would not be able to just kill civilians like in your example. Lightweavers have fairly flexible oaths, as their honesty to themselves is what is paramount. Their deeds matter significantly less than that. So I can easily see a villainous lightweaver having little trouble with their bond. Willshapers are to the best of my knowledge are all about seeking freedom, however freedom at what cost? Whose to say a Willshaper wouldn't go full french revolution on those in power. Those are just a few off the top of my head. Granted I am assuming a more morally ambiguous sort of villain.

I may have to ask you to specify as I included two superheroes. The tiefling I was quite proud of as when I first told someone about it they got indignant and stated and I am paraphrasing, "How dare you make me care so much about a character I am not in a game with.".
-
Let's see, I wrote, A character who was a dwarven artificer. From a clan of incredibly famous weapon smiths. He was ostracized for his obsession with public works projects. To the point he spent a century designing a sewer system and road for a city. A soulknife half elf rogue who was the 8th child of a crime lord. He had fled his home city after his father's death as his siblings formed individual gangs and started a war between each other for who the successor would be. My goodest boy tiefling necromancer. Who began dabbling in darker arts out of a desire to revive every person he had ever lost in his life. The character I will be playing in an upcoming game who is a Psion (has the telekinetic and telepathy feats). Who largely sucks at his abilities and has to actively repress them. Will build him to be akin to a aberrant mind sorcerer/monk. His hero origin was attacking local gangs under the moniker "Gaslight"...they made him change that upon joining propery hero society. Finally masks character (powered by the apocalypse superhero game) who was kind of like superman. Only he had no actual finesse with his inhuman strength or flight. So whenever I rolled poorly for say, trying to heroically stop a train car. Yeah that was because he overestimated how much strength use and ripped the part of the train's frame off.

Glad you appreciate it, they have had quite a character arc going. Granted this is not my most out there and weird character concept.
-
Well they appear human, we found out pretty early on they are a demigod of a goddess of love and beauty and a long lost scion of potent magical bloodline. They are a bladesinger wizard. They are adventuring in part because they wish to find ways to make the world safer for non combatants and magically or martially adept individuals. They have some manipulative tendencies as well as a tendency to put on whatever persona they think a person wants to see. As they were at one point a very well regarded stage performer, I rolled semi BS stats meaning they are highly gifted in many areas, which led to them feeling particularly isolated in life. They are learning enchanting and have rediscovered a seemingly lost method of doing so.

Also I realize I never contributed to the original request of this topic. If you have time, I would be curious to see you do a stylized version of my main D&D character's maker's mark. A golden rose, background I have no ideas on.

Background on that one you put the spoiler on is cool.
