  1. There was a long, silent pause. Aln had seated herself back at her desk and begun working on a form. She sighed, rubbing her forehead, and glanced up at the large window in the front of the store. A woman stood there, wearing what seemed to be clothing from Idris. Aln stood, pushing her chair back, and rounded the desk. I just put that sign up, she thought, rather irritably. What do I have to do to get people to stop knocking? She approached the door, still watching the woman through the window. There was something familiar about her, something Aln couldn't place. Then the woman turned her head, bringing her face into view, and Aln knew. She felt as though she was moving through a dream. Past and present seemed to collide, and an irrational surge of panic shot through her. Somehow her legs still carried her toward the door, and she opened it automatically. The woman met her eyes, and Aln whispered a single word. "Temeria?" It had been 10 years since she'd seen that face, but how could you forget a sister?
  2. Welcome! We're glad you're here. Do you have a favorite of Sanderson's books?
  3. "I think so," said Sarah. "I'm pretty fast." She glanced at the massive worm, moving in slow motion toward someone in orange overalls. "Do you think it'll work? Will you be okay?" @ZincAboutIt @TrailRunnin @Grey Knight
  4. Sarah glanced around. "I might be able to trap it in a speed bubble for a little while. It will could buy you some time." @Grey Knight @ZincAboutIt @TrailRunnin
  5. Sarah looked on, mildly intriuged, as the massive worm shot past her, barely missing the gentleman from Scadrial. A wave of heat crashed into her, and several gunshots resounded throughout the air. Although she still felt little more than faint alarm, the noise startled get, and she instinctively burned her bendalloy. The familiar shimmer of a speed bubble separated her from the rest of the world, and she now had a very clear view of the scaly, spined monster moving in slow motion. With the Soothing pulses now slowed to the point where they had barely any effect, mental clarity returned. As did fear. Heartbeat racing, Sarah frantically considered the predicament. She could try to fight the thing, but the moment her speed bubble went down she'd be back under the Soothing. Could she make a bubble big enough to contain the monster? Maybe. It would be risky, and would certainly run her out of metal. Instead, she looked over at where the Director, the massive soldier, and a few others still stood, grouped together. If she could get them in a bubble, they'd probably be able to work out a plan. Taking a deep breath, Sarah extinguished her metal. Instantly her fear vanished, but a single burning thought remained present in her mind: get to Director Stancel. The urgency had fled, and all she really wanted to do was take a nice stroll, but Sarah still dashed across the cave, ducking as Rig shot past on a coin. She slid to a stop in the middle of the group, and instantly turned on her metal, enveloping them all in a pocket desperate from tone. "What," she panted, "in Harmony's name is that?" @ZincAboutIt @TrailRunnin @Grey Knight @Anyone else in that immediate vicinity
  6. I'm the opposite; I've been considering playing an evil character for once (such I rarely do even in other RPs, for context). I'm thinking either a corrupted Skybreaker or an interesting epic. Which would fit better in this plot?
  7. Sarah, leaning on her staff, gazed at the softly glowing pool of water. A group of people was speaking in hushed voices behind her, but Sarah didn't feel the slightest curiosity toward what they were saying. In fact, she felt remarkably little. The apprehension and excitement she had felt upon entering the cave had vanished, as had the gentle haze of confusion that still lingered from her arrival in the Alleyverse. The feeling reminded her of something. Well, it didn't seem to be important. She began aimlessly twirling her staff in her hands as the surface of the water began to tremble, pockets of air bursting and waves lapping at the previously dry stone. Sarah smiled as a luminescent, horrible thing erputed from the water and began thrashing toward her. It was such a nice day. @anyone in the cavern
  8. Aln accepted the paper, tucking it into a pocket, and stood. "Thank you for coming. If there's anything else you need, please let me know. I'm sorry that I couldn't do more." Though she remained perfectly polite and friendly, her tone made it clear that she considered the meeting over. @Sorana @I think I am here.
  9. Sarah looked sheepish. "I mean, I still don't know how I ended up here. I'm Sarah, by the way." She extended a hand.
  10. Sarah watched the two walk off, bemused. "So people really just show up here all the time?" She asked the person who had just approached. @I think I am here.
  11. Sarah glanced at the other two. "Um, I'm Sarah. I'm afraid this isn't Scadrial. It's a place called the Alleyverse. Specifically, the caves underneath the Alleycity. I don't know how you got down here, but..." She trailed off.
  12. Sarah stared between them. "You're from Scadrial?" she asked slowly. "When did you get here? And how did you get here?" @TrailRunnin @ZincAboutIt
  13. Aln nodded. "I see. Well, where can I contact you to deliver the fabrial?"
  14. "I'll handle the cost," she said, beginning to mentally tally her finances. "My brother is an ardent on Roshar who studies fabrials, so I think he should be able to find me something. The reason it might have to be a loan is because Roshar is experiencing some turmoil itself at the moment. I'm not sure the devotaries would be willing to permanently give up such a valuable resource in such a situation." She placed her small stack of books on the table and retrieved a worn spanreed from an inner pocket. She began to write on a small scrap of paper with it, glancing up as she did so. "If I may ask, where else would you plan to get a soulcaster?"
  15. Wow. That's really flattering. Thank you! I would try to write one for someone else, but I don't think I could do any of you justice.
  16. Aln paused in the act of retrieving a book. "Now, that is an idea. I don't have the surge, but I think I know where I can get a fabrial." She turned fully towards him, excitement beginning to spark in her eyes. "Yes, I think I can do that. It might take me a little while, though. And... it will be expensive. It might have to be a loan rather than a purchase."
  17. May I please have a dare?
  18. Aln sighed. "I'll certainly ask the guild, but I don't know if any of them have the sort of expertise that you're looking for. I have a few books on that subject that you're welcome to take. And I do possess the surge of progression; I'd be happy to come and heal any that you point me to." She stood and began to pull books from the shelves, still watching the two from the Forge for their response. @Sorana @I think I am here.
  19. Well, I'm going to ignore the fact that I'm normally not much of an artist and contribute here. Did I use pencil and maker for some of this? ... No comment.
  20. Sarah stepped out of the elevator. After ten minutes of claustrophobic darkness, even the dim light made her eyes water. Flipping on her headlamp only made it worse, but the blurry sight that met her eyes was worth any trouble to get down here. It may even have been worth all the trouble of appearing in the Alleyverse. The gentle light of the luminescent fungus was reflected in the clear pool that occupied the center of the cavern. It seemed to Sarah as if she'd just entered an entirely new world. Again. She fumbled with her strange square of metal for a moment, but it remained stubbornly unresponsive. Giving up, she stuffed it into an outer pocket of her bag and walked over to the pool. Standing by the edge, she squinted up at the huge stalactite. I wonder why the glowing moss only grows there, she thought. After a moment or two, she shrugged, and turned back. "Hey," she called to the man who had led them down, "is it okay if I circle the edge of this cavern? I want to start drawing my map."
  21. Aln watched the conversation thoughtfully. She gave Lord Arkos a small nod when he entered, then turned her attention back to the conversation at hand. "Now, I'm not an expert in architecture," she said to Alask, "or in machinery," she added, glancing at Lena, "and yet I doubt that many will be able to build a secure house based on what we're able to teach them. We have limited resources, and no formal schools. However, there are skills we can impart that I suspect will be of similar value. Reading, for example, or proper management of money, or a simple trade. Unfortunately, this course of action would not decrease your own workload in the same way. Did you have an idea for how to achieve that result?" @I think I am here. @Sorana ( @MetaTerminal & @Ark1002 too)
  22. Aln accepted the paper back and glanced at it before returning it to her pocket. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Jale. I'm Aln Sheneth. And I'd certainly appreciate help with the ALleyverse Post. It's a large endeavor." Noticing his wince, she added, "Are you alright? Do you need healing?"
  23. Aln, about to respond to Lena, gave him an appraising look. "Good morning," she said, placing subtle emphasis on the second word. "You're certainly welcome to. What's your name?" As she spoke, she was fishing in her pocket for the sign-up form. She shot Lena and Alask an apologetic look for the interruption, and handed the paper to the man who had just walked in. It read: I, the undersigned, hereby pledge myself to the Guild of Scholars, and promise to strive to gather and spread knowledge throughout the Alleyverse and corresponding worlds. Signed, ______________
