  1. Ember shrugged. "So why do you do that to yourself? I can't begin to understand."
  2. Ooo, do tell! Who's like who?
  3. "Well," Star said as she put the keys on a hook, "we've reached a good end. This is what's best, I think."
  4. Always glad to entertain! It's mostly just banter between Shadow and Ember at this point. However, it's interesting how the characters work together. Tom is hilarious (at least I think so, considering the circumstances) and dutiful, Shadow is seemingly hopeless but actually endearing, Ember is straightforward and opinionated, Butt is humble and honest, if more than a bit whiny, and Star is loyal and stubborn to a fault.
  5. Star smiled warmly. "People should really pay more attention."
  6. Yeah, we have issues. These characters are precious.
  7. Star looked up at Truthless. She wore a stained janitor's outfit and had the keys to this thread in her hand. She held a worn broom in the other. "Too late for that, kid. We wrapped up shop here a while ago. Made a new thread for plot. It's in the RP section now, like an old coat in a closet. We might come back though." She winked and put the broom in a nearby closet. After locking the door, she turned out the lights.
  8. Ember smiled. "Thank you." She studied Shadow. "You know," she said. "You're much more pleasant sober."
  9. Ember observed. Seeing Shadow's weapon made her realize her lack of one. She had only ever used her hands to destroy. And so, Ember let heat drip off of her arm, lava coalescing into a long, crude sword. The handle hardened to iron, but the molten blade still dripped liquid metal.
  10. Ember snorted. "You have never said something more honest."
  11. Ember cocked her head. She honestly didn't know who to trust on this. The only human who had ever been consistent was Tom. She felt comfortable with him. Everyone else fell short. "Why do you think that?" Ember decided to ask.
  12. It was feared among ghanderflaffle/handerfle culture even more than Tom Joebob. And Tom was the one who had created it.
  13. And if they saw anything else, they would know they had stumbled across someone special.
  14. It allowed them to see inside the hearts of their enemies. And, in Butt's case, their insides in general.
  15. Used only by the most fearsome of villains, it was called skimblar.
  16. Inside, predictably, was a bunch of unchewed gumballs.
  17. While Tom was working with that, Ember looked to Pheonix. "So," she said, "you're Star's 'true love.'" "Oh," Star said. "Well, that's far, far better than nothing."
  18. Butt Venture fell from the sky, gagged and in chains.
  19. "But Star promised him protection, I don't want to be there when she screams at me for not... Oh, it doesn't matter." Star shrugged. It didn't make that much sense, but as she said, she trusted Tom. "So, what will we say to them?"
  20. Ember grimaced. "I think what Tom meant was to put him back where you found him. This seems a little... extreme."
  21. "Yeah, we can lose him," Ember decided. "For now, at least. I don't think Star would be very happy if we just left him here. Not that she could do anything about it..."
