  1. So my theory is that #17 refers to the defeatism/depression/whatever of the Stormfather, as reflected in his conversation with Dalinar at the end of WoR. Light grows so distant. - here light is a metaphor for hope. The storm never stops. - could refer to the Everstorm, or the interactions of highstorms with the everstorm I am broken, and all around me have died. - yep, that's true of spren I weep for the end of all things. He has won. Oh, he has beaten us. - At the end of book 2, this sums up what the Stormfather says.
  2. You, sir, win the internet.
  3. Using only the information presented in Mitosis, what do you think Regalia's weakness will turn out to be? I won't answer for a couple of posts, to make sure I don't influence guesses.
  4. Have had to avoid this board for months, but finally Mitosis became available here. Have to say it was an interesting short story that poses a few questions about the nature of Epics in general. Looking forward to being able to read the Reckoners board now...
  5. Lift would be the ultimate Instagram food spammer. And she'd also troll weightloss forums.
  6. A planet being destroyed is not something you want to be anywhere near. It's going to make a mess and probably release enough heat to destroy all life on the moons. As for other factors in your three body environment - the planet (when it was inhabited) would have had absolutely incredible tides. 14 day rotation orbits means the moons are closer than Earth's moon, and they are much heavier. It would not surprise me if the planet was constantly pounded by what we Earthlings would call tsunamis. This is going to cause erosion of continents, so you'd either need a lot of volcanism to counteract this, or some other solution.
  7. Hrathen first. Karata probably second.
  8. Brandon doesn't like killing off one half of a romantic partnership in general, so I'm going to guess he lives or dies as Shallan does. Mistborn spoiler (books 2 and 3) I'd be quite surprised to see Adolin and Shallan get GRRM'ed unless their deaths are a major part of book 5 or 10.
  9. I'd forgotten that.
  10. Interesting theory. Firstly yeah, this needs to move and have spoiler tags on it. Every time someone posts Mistborn 3 spoilers without a warning, a kitten dies (which actually does not bother me, I hate cats). I actually disagree with the rebuttals - had Rashek not said 'you have doomed us all', Vin would have reacted differently to events of book 2. So if the OP's theory is true then Rashek would have known to say that. This doesn't mean I agree with the theory, I see it as unprovable and plausible but improbable.
  11. Interesting how differently we imagine characters. I had imagined Tonk Fah as looking like a 40-45 year old version of Jackie Chan, and had imagined Jewel as a very short, very heavily built 30-something woman.
  12. I believe he has a supernatural ability to detect Surgebinding, (possibly linked to my theory), he used that to detect Ym and Lift, and then and only then did he dig into their pasts for an excuse to execute them legally.
  13. Interesting, I missed this and agree with you.
  14. Any chance the 'Is Kaladin a better fighter than Szeth or just luckier' conversation can become its own thread?
  15. I'd love to see Demandred vs Tam, inside a stedding.
  16. I don't trust Vorin lore. However, in this case I do.
  17. I don't believe Nalan is omniscient. My recollection of the Ym chapter is that Nalan spent some time investigating Ym before killing him.
  18. That surprises me, in my head, I had it Lan > Galad = Tam > Gawyn > > > Rand.
  19. It's mostly 10 that I complained about. 7 was solid, 8 and 9 were at the weaker end of the series but still OK, but 10 is just terrible.
  20. I'm interested to see Peter reading this thread...
  21. Verging a bit off topic, my reading of the Szeth situation is that being compelled to have all of these crimes on his conscience IS his punishment (for his false conviction for the crime of 'lying' about Surgebinding having returned to Roshar). His punishment is significantly worse (in his mind) than execution.
  22. I know it's a bit off topic, but that 'shoot the dogs too' put a smile on my face. Too much time spent @ work reading TV tropes lately... http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ShootTheShaggyDog http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KickTheDog
  23. Reading troll keteks I discover I enjoy discovering that Keteks troll readers Not as structured, symmetric or elegant as yours, but I like it
  24. On the question of compulsion, Shardic compulsion is mentioned in another book. WARNING: Mistborn spoiler - do not read if you haven't read Hero of Ages For that reason I still consider it possible, even likely, that Darkness is under some form of compulsion from Odium.
  25. Another interpretation is that he is magically compelled via some as yet unknown (to the reader) to act within local laws. Also on your comments re the importance of Radiants. I could well be wrong but I suspect Radiants are an overwhelmingly powerful battlefield force. Just a Shardbearer is worth a lot more than a hundred trained soldiers, to the point that someone without Shards defeating one in combat makes them a legend for generations. Radiants are stronger still. If there was not a supernatural cost to surge binding, no-one that opposes Odium would want to hunt surgebinders. I suspect it either hastens Desolations or perhaps intensifies them.
