Is there a point to Sebarial?
Mailnaise replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
I personally really like Sebarial and Palona, and feel like Brandon has been setting them up for something important, whether that's big on screen or more to the side. The fact that they have the best warcamp/princedom economically would put them in a great spot to help set up society in new places and different ways. As for their allegiances, I feel like anything is possible. I feel like Brandon purposely made them kinda like a wildcard, he could take their stories MANY different ways, and I don't think anyone would really question it. I really like your analysis, too, @hoiditthroughthegrapevine. More proof that they could go a lot of ways. -
What I find odd is that, like for example, Gran-Gran, had no idea about the war in the galaxy vs the humans, (or if they did she never said anything...). It just seems odd to me. Yes they lost a lot of knowledge, but surely the fact that they were trapped on a planet in the middle of an intergalactic war against their kind can't be so easily forgotten.

17S Holiday Giveaway: Bridge Four Pendant From Badali!
Mailnaise replied to Chaos's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
UM THIS IS AWESOME, more giveaways PLEASE I was looking at that necklace in the shop just this morning! -
I was listening to the newest Shardcast, Predictions for Starsight, and they talked a lot about theories of the purpose of the debris field and the like. Go listen to/watch it if you liked Skyward. I really liked their idea that the debris, combined with that fact that the humans are underground, was there as protection from something, therefore implying that Detritus was a human? manufactured fortress world. If we apply the fact that humans had AI capabilities, saying that Detritus had some AI doesn't seem that far off to me.

Maybe when Dominion and Devotion were splintered something happened in that event that made the first Elantrian. A Shard being splintered in no small thing, it would have wrecked all kinds of havoc on Sel.

Bet you all know this by now, we're Sanderson fans here, but we now know the what the secret project is so... Further proof it will be awhile for Rithmatist.

What would be your Sixth of Dusk name
Mailnaise replied to Dragon Reborn's topic in Cosmere Discussion
First of the Morning I guess, but I'm seeing a lot of people with that name. First of the Rising Sun ooh or First the the Setting Moon. Yep that's mine. -
I thought there was no atium left after Harmony took up Ruin's power and all that jazz. They call it the lost metal in Era 2, and I seem to remember a mention of it being gone in Era 1 at the end. If I'm right, that couldn't be how he's stayed alive so long.

Well in that case isn't it cannon that it's a compass?
-
I feel like if it's done right, a game would be great; I would definitely play it. However, claiming that it would be better than the book is a very bold claim my friend ( @Arcoss )

It's not Rithmatist..I went to the Seattle book signing and he said that in 2019 he'll be pounding out Stormlight 4 and working a little on Wax and Wayne 4. I don't know if that's the "secret project", but it's there.

If the city is a compass, which way is it pointing exactly? It has four points, (the surrounding cities) but no distinction between which one points north or anything. Unless there's something in new versions of the book I haven't seen. I just have the pocket paperback size one.

We still don't know what story they've been told, coward or murderer?

Maybe not that specific shipyard, but other shipyards and collections of rubble will definitely be instrumental in getting humans off Detritus. As for the planets origin, I know there are clues and information in Defending Elysium, which I haven't actually read yet, but I listened to the Skyward Reactions podcast, and they talked about it. I like your idea @SteveD that the planet may be a little alive, or at least aware. Most of the technology on Detritus seems to just be in the atmosphere, but who's to say if there's more underground, giving it awareness similar to M-Bot. I hope we know a lot more about the planet by the next book.

I think as readers we're all programmed to assume something like this would be harder for the character because in most books it is. I know I was immediately wondering what the catch was. Turns out there wasn't one. Maybe they had a record of the battle available to the general public with Chaser's betrayal cut out, just in case people insisted or requested on seeing the battle, on official reasons or curiosity.

Right now my title thingy obviously says Callsign: Ookla, but once that's over it's gonna be: Callsign: Cake My friend has been calling me MaiaCake since 6th grade, so I thought it would be fitting. Also, not gonna lie, I love me some cake

The best couple in fantasy??? Or your dream couple
Mailnaise replied to Tommymater's topic in Introduce Yourself!
This is pretty boring but Vin and Elend are, and always will be, my OTP. -
I went to the Skyward book signing in Seattle! It was great, and in Sanderson's presentation, he talked about books he's written that failed. One such book was the 2002 version of WoK. It was so different than what we all know! No spren, no Knights Radiants, and no Bridge Four. Basically, the story starts with Taln stumbling into a town with a shardblade, and saying a disasters coming, and the story goes through trying to figure out whether he's actually a herald, and whether he's telling the truth or not. He said there were too many viewpoint characters at once, and none of there stories got far enough fast enough. According to Brandon, it failed, but he plans to maybe publish it after he's finished the Stormlight series as another thing for fans to enjoy. Some of it is still cannon apparently. The process of revising that old version came the Knights Radiants, and from them came the ideas for spren, and from redoing the viewpoint stuff came Bridge 4. Just thought other fans would want to know. It was really fascinating, and he even read an excerpt from it.

@whattheHoid Unfortunately I didn't see your post until now! I would've if I knew! The signing was pretty speedy, though, (there were a LOT of people) so I doubt I even would have had time.

Speaking of Taln... I went to the Skyward book signing in Seattle this last Saturday, and Brandon talked about the first version of WoK that he wrote in 2002. (It was so different than what we all know! No spren, no Knights Radiants, and no Bridge Four. Basically, the story starts with Taln stumbling into a town with a shardblade, and saying a disasters coming, and the story goes through trying to figure out whether he's actually a herald, and whether he's telling the truth or not. According to Brandon, it failed, but he plans to maybe publish it after he's finished the Stormlight series as another thing for fans to enjoy. Some of it is still cannon apparently.) Anyways, he talked a lot about Taln, and apparently Taln is the flasback character of Book 9. Taln will obviously become more important, and a whole book exploring the background of Odium's champion would make a lot of sense. My new vote is that Odium's champion will be Taln, but we'll see.

My Grandpa and Mom got into Stormlight a while ago now, and knowing my taste in books, my mom recommended them to me. I loved them! I then bought Mistborn and Elantris and loved those too. I'm now the proud owner of 12 Brandon Sanderson books, and I'm getting Skyward at the Seattle book signing on Saturday. I've also got my sister into Mistborn, and a friend of mine into both Mistborn and WoK. P.S. Oh, and I got my Chem teacher to read WoK!

Personally, I immediately think Sarene. Although she acted braver that I would've. But, yeah, I relate to her on a lot of levels. She's also just one of my favorite cosmere characters in general.

Can I just say how much I love that I have the same name as Adolin's sword? (Well I mean my name's Maia, (pronounced Maya), but it's close) I can officially say that my name is unique enough to make it into a Cosmere book. Not many people can!
