How do we know this? We don't actually know when Honor was splintered.

Lol, I read "funneling" and was immediately terrified that this thread would devolve into another "we need a different name for feruchemical compounding". Which failed miserably the first time.

Agreed with Senor Fresh on all points. Szeth's use of stormlight is weaker than Kaladin's, and there may be more wasted power, but he still clearly gains power ultimately. Also WoB says 3 types of blades. And we've seen blades functioning in 3 distinct ways. So it seems pretty clear. Although Brandon is tricky and not to be trusted.

My only real nitpick is that spren are the result of Honor having been splintered, just like the Seons from elantris Odium hasn't been splintered so he wouldn't have spren. Now that doesn't mean that shardblades aren't of Odium, they just wouldn't be spren. Perhaps regular spren that have been perverted however.

Also do you tap that immensely stored up luck when you pick your lotto numbers? Or when they draw them? Hmm It could still be very useful in a casino though. At least until they kick you out and ban you from returning, which is exactly what they do to people who win too often.

Yeah same concern as before. I don't think the storm is constantly feeding stormlight into the gems. I think each gem just gets fully infused once during each storm. Also quickly draining stormlight from a gem has a tendency to shatter it. So I assume that even if you COULD get a constant influx of energy into the gems mounted inside the shardplate that they would shatter while repairing the plate. So unless you have someone standing out in the storm with a bag full of gems you still don't have a workable system.

Not sure how good of an idea this would be. The winds can toss around boulders, and while shardplate is heavy it can still be carried by a normal horse. I think the shardbearer would still get tossed around. Also we've seen plates damaged and even broken by hammer blows. I can't imagine that getting struck by a flying boulder would be very healthy either.

They pupate into much larger Chasmfiends. Brandon said that the one that almost killed Elhokar(sp?) was a chasmfiend that had pupated.

This is similar to the concept that Kaladin and Szeth could surgebind non-stop during a highstorm. It seems to me that when Kaladin was tied up during the highstorm that his sphere was dun for the majority of the storm. It didn't absorb any stormlight until the particular moment when Kaladin saw the face in the storm. To me this implies that there is a particular point during the storm in which spheres are infused, rather than a constant influx of stormlight.

Always seemed a bit like cultivation to me. She is creating a collection after all.

On a Strong Day *Spoilers*
Galavantes replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Stormlight Archive
I missed this, where can I find that reading? -
It's also possible that Atium being a god metal does not hold to the same restrictions as typical allomantic metals. It's possible that an atium misting can burn all atium alloys as well. We've already seen that lerasium has no restrictions on who can burn it. I've actually been a little confused as to the timeline of AoL and TWoK. When exactly did Demoux begin world-hopping? He's not shown to be around in AoL. The only thing I can figure is that the hoppers from Sel came to Scadrial and enlisted him very shortly after the rebirth of the world.

Ok I knew EULA was Brandon but couldn't remember if Ookla was another of his names or Peter or someone else. Cool
-
Oh those were the days. Also who was Ookla? TWG was so long ago now I can barely remember it.
-
I considered the same thing, but it doesn't really seem to fit.
-
No I totally agree with this, and it's entirely possible that's all that was being conveyed here. But we know Brandon is a careful writer, and it strikes me that there was a personality slip the very instant he picked up that blade. I think these were emotions he was already feeling, perhaps the blade just nudges people a bit.
-
Seems like the very moment Amaram takes up that blade his personality changed a bit. Suddenly his control starts to slip. I don't think this is anything huge, but I think Brandon put this here to show us that the blades are in fact affecting their wielders.

Yet. Can't talk yet.

Why shardblades don't cut each others?
Galavantes replied to king of nowhere's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yes I think stormlight is the pure power of honor in the way that the mists were pure preservation. The storms are likely just a delivery method so to speak. -
Now I'm not saying this is the case....but bear with me. Let's look at the name: Rhyshadium. Other objects have had the same format: Lerasium, Atium. Rhysha sounds like a woman's name. Honor calls Cultivation a woman. Just a possibility.

Why shardblades don't cut each others?
Galavantes replied to king of nowhere's topic in Stormlight Archive
My best guess is because shardblades are invested with Odium, and it's not in their interest to destroy each other, while shardplates are invested with Honor, and therefore Odium has no problem destroying the ever loving crap out of them. Shardplates: It seems fairly obvious that these are of honor. They are powered by stormlight (which also seems to be of honor) and their function is to protect. I would be interested to see if Honor Blades are able to damage them. Shardblades: These things kill in a pretty vicious manor. I think they have either always been of Odium, or Odium "stole" them somehow (Recreance?). As to their power source I have two thoughts, they could be purely physical manifestations of Odium. Or they are somehow recharged while they are away. It's possible that they can actually run out of power and be forced to vanish and recharge, we may simply have not yet seen them be overly taxed to that point. Sadeas might be pretty surprised when he's dueling Adolin and his blade runs out of power and vanishes on him. Random tangent: Does it seem like the highstorms are almost exactly the same as the mists? They carry the pure power of honor, and it even seems like Odium might have messed with them in exactly the same way Ruin messed with the mists, "encouraging" them to be a little more active and violent. Maybe that's even where Odium got the idea... -
That's funny that means he mentioned Hoid twice in the Suvudu context. This is definitely not the same quote I read. Glad you found this.
-
Windrunner doesn't have a source for a quote? This is momentous. The context was during the Suvudu Cage Match that Rand won. George Martin tried to cheat and bring in characters from all his books including Wild Cards. As Brandon had already taken over WoT at this point he said something about bringing in characters from HIS books, saying something along the lines of: "If I could bring Hoid Rand would be toast." But as to where that quote was actually made, well I don't know. Could be the old TWG, or a response he posted to Suvudu.
-
This is my theory also. In fact I think one of the shardholders is (was) a dragon.
-
So Hoid is a pre-shattering human. If we assume that he was created by Andolsium, then it's likely he is invested with "pure" Andolsium, rather than just invested with a piece of it (in the way that Vin is only invested with power from Preservation and Ruin). Therefore it's possible that his "unshattered" investiture actually allows him to access ALL magic systems in the cosmere. So all he has to do to use feruchemy is acquire some metal from Scadrial ( I just assume that Scadrial is the only place that has metal which can be used for the metallic arts) and start using his furochemy. I bet all he needs is a properly attuned focus and he can do pretty much anything that any other magic user in the cosmere can do. Also if this is true it explains why Brandon claims that Hoid could wipe the floor with Rand Al'thor. TLR was worshipped as a god by having access to only 3 magic systems. Imagine someone who could readily use them all...
