It would be the best! Though I don't know if we would get that... I only say that because even big name actors like RDJ are getting tired of the MCU. Not everyone can be Sam Jackson. If we were to get a consistent Hoid it would probably be a no name or B-tier actor. Or ... whispers or, what if (even though he doesn't look the part) we convinced Brandon to play Hoid. He's not by any stretch of the word an actor but I would love it

It's definitely my favorite of the novella's. I think that it along with 6th Of The Dusk would also be fairly cheap to make. There really wouldn't need to be any CG in either film. The most CGI in 6th would be the nightmaws. But they could just never show them to get around it. Out of all of them you are right, The Emperor's Soul has the strongest story. Plus we would get a Hoid cameo

I forgot that was in the works lol, they talked about that on the shardcast recently. It has a really interesting premise so hopefully this one actually goes somewhere!

I kinda want to loop back to @SupremeKingZ-arc's original question. I know I had a lengthy answer earlier but outside of that I think that Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell would probably make a decent straight to tv movie. It could fit a 65 minute time slot with its length. It probably wouldn't need a huge budget as long as the CG for the shades was good. I think due to the horror aspects it would make a nice t.v. special if Brandon want's to dink around with his works jumping to tv.

This actually helps a lot! I couldn't find this when I was searching the forums. I have a very very long post I've been building and was planning on changing things if there was a limit.

Quick question that I didn't see an answer for when I searched for it. Is there a maximum word limit for a single post? I've scene some posts around 2k but didn't know if it capped off at a point.

I thought Elantris was fine but The Emperor's soul is incredibly good. His novella's quality are usually really high. Plus I like the magic system of this novela more that I like the one in Elantris.

They both just take place on Sel and its about 100 years after the events of Elantris. They are not related as far as story content is concerned. Its a short read and its really good.

First, you probably have the best user name ever. Second I agree that Studio Ghibli would be great for Warbreaker. Though Miyazaki himself probably wouldn't take to much of an interest in this particular novel of Brandon's. He is big on strong female lead characters which the book has but all of the films he directs have a major theme of flight which is pretty much absent from Warbreaker :( . He's also super big on environmentalism which is a big part of his films so he would probably be lean more towards Mistborn. But any movie by him would be amazing. I agree that it needs to merit the label of the book its coming from. But I dont want a 4/10 - 6/10. It either needs to be so bad that its comical (Like the film The Room) or a 7/10 or higher. It is a waste of our time, the authors time, and the studios time to make mediocre films. Though I do hope that at some point Brandon is able to get a studio to finally take on this project of making a good film out of his novels. The cosmere in general could make the greatest movie series like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The general public wouldn't have any idea they were connected until multiple movies come out. Everyone is seeing Hoid and wondering why he's just memeing is way through these movies and wondering who the heck he is .

That's usually my biggest fear which is missing the spirit or message of the book (specifically sci fi/ fantasy novels). It's also hard to cut down books into a 90 minute format. But you are right most are fine. That said nothing hurts me more than it turning out bad or as a 6. I'd rather have nothing. A world where Avatar the Last Airbender and Eragon films don't exist is a happier place xD. I don't mean to sound like a grouch lol.

I've also wondered the same thing. But no one else seems to have touched on one major difference between Scadrial and Roshar. We also need to remember that Scadrial was made post shattering by Preservation and Ruin. Roshar was made during the time of Adonalsium and thus the cognitive realm associated with it. That's my theory as possible reason why Kelsier can see into the physical realm and those in the Cognitive Realm connected to Roshar cannot. Though its clearly more complicated than just this one reason.

I disagree only because I've seen super hero shows like Luke Cage and Jessica Jones 100% ruin their action scenes. Dare Devil is the only one where it's action was good but no one flys in that show. The Metallic arts will not look good without a good budget. People flying around without a good budget Always looks bad. A lot of Mistborn is people flying around (Vin, Kelsier, and Wax).

Avatar The Last Airbender, Gurren Laggen (Or anything from Trigger), Full Metal Alchemist, and I would include Attack on Titan in that list. Mistborn and Stormlight specifically. Those series fit what anime does best which is high octane action. He would need the right studio like Trigger to make this a reality though. This is not to say that we cant have tv shows that are live action along side the anime or even movies. That happens all the time. But generally book movies are bad, tv shows dont get the right budget, and certain styles of anime dont appeal to the masses. Putting his work into multiple mediums would eventually find a hit. I just believe there is a greater chance for these two series in particular to look their best in anime. Right now the only studio probably capable of making a live action Mistborn or Stormlight movie would be Marvel. They currently have the best special effects and knowledge to translates Brandon's work from the page to the screen.
-
I forgot about that!!! It was so bad. I agree with Brandon's point. His books are good and no bad movie will retroactively ruin them. But what they can do is sour a new audience to his works. Movies are easy to recommend due to the time commitment and I understand why anyone would be excited if it finally came into fruition.

An HBO mini series would be the best format for Brandon's books. HBO being our best option because it could have a decent budget. One major reason is that Cable TV shows won't work is they have to stretch out the content to fill a regular season. This means we would probably get a lot of filler episodes that may not be super great. To the point on anime. As a big fan of the genre you are all wrong lol. Mistborn and Stormlight would work best there because I can tell you only a film with the budget of the Avengers 1 would have enough money to make the special effects look good. Anime can make those effects look amazing for a lot less capital. Personally I'd have the team of Avatar the last Airbender as that world, art style, and action scenes fit with those worlds. And yes the last airbender is an anime. But anime can't work because a single season is 12 episodes (or 24 due to various factors). That's too ridged to shoe horn his works into that schedule, as much as I want it. I listen to the Super Best Friendcast and I agree with their sentiment on film. Feature films no longer need to be the end all be all of every medium. One major factor being that it's hard to translate good works into good movies. The Harry Potter series being a good example. Good movies but the books are better. Video games have never made good movies. How do you translate Final Fantasy (a series Brandon likes) which a single game is 80 hours on the low side into a film?? You can't. My last point on translating his works into anything but an HBO mini series (and it actually still applies to HBO) is this. No matter who picks it up they will want to change things to appeal to the general public. Movies are especially bad about this. The American Ghost in the Shell being my prime example of butchering its source material (the movie is okay but in no way treats its source material with any respect). Brandon's works have so much thought and detail built into them that no visual medium I can think of will give it the respect it deserves except a mini series for each novel. Now just like GoT HBO could try and change things to fit the story they want to show, but a mini series would be our best bet for a good special effects budget (since there's not as many episodes to spread across) and we won't get filler added to the story. Fin.

I totally spaced this from Secret History haha. I guess that means that Sel has some way of manipulating connection. This really answers my question. There's just so much to remember at once. I really need to reread the cosmere again since Ive only just got through it for the first time. Im sure I'll have more questions before that though lol.

That is very true, I 100% forgot about them showing up and them having Connection foibles like characters from the Bands of Mourning. But Demoux also being from that time period (final empire era) is what really throws me off. Both of them are from a time period in which Scadrial has no knowledge of the coins that are in BoM. I assumed hemalurgy as it would have been a magic system that a spy in the Final Empire might have learned about. My problem is I doubt that Demoux would have had access to that knowledge unless the 17th Shard was giving it out but it seems more likely that they are using a different magic system to create connection similar to the coins. I cant think of any magic systems in the known cosmere that can manipulate Connection in the current era of Roshar. Unless there's a WoB out there I'm missing xD

Can Felt manipulate his connection? I came across this WoB and I remember reading OB and that no one really gives much thought to the line Felt says when he says he's foreign. He explains this is why the night watcher won't visit him. The WoB says he should stand out more. Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] You know Felt? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] Felt, I know Felt. Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] Is Felt originally Scadrian? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] Yep. Yes. You guys know about that, right? I don't think that's a big secret. But, he is, and that should be raising other questions. Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] About his name? Or how he's showing up on Roshar? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] About that and the fact that... He should stand out more. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/331/#e9429 This reads to me like he can manipulate his connection? My guess would have to be hemalurgy but I don't think we have confirmation yet on what kind of spike steals connection. But that brings up questions like how did he learn about hemalurgy or did he come across a different investiture to manipulate his connection?

Wow this is so much too go through its great! I'll probably dive into a lot of it during work xD.
-
Awesome! What does it do lol?

Omg this is amazing! That's so awesome, I bet that took forever to make. This will help do much with my research. I just finished so many of these books and I already feel like I need to re-read them and it's only been like 7 months xD. There's too much to absorb

I dunno if I'm ready for roleplaying yet lol. But that's a lot of great info on where to go, thanks :)! I've read some WoBs but have been kicking around the idea of just going through all of them to get a fuller picture since I'm so new to the fandom. But I dunno I'd that would be recommended. Thanks!! I heard about that one on the shardcast. While I have more complex thoughts on the subject ;), I agree with the idea behind the "intent" if the shard but not the name specifically. Modestly because I think that function is missing from Adonalsium. But I'm still working on my thesis and evidence for why lol.

I've got one major theory I'm working on but I need to do more research first :). Favorite series... hmmmmmm. That's tough but I would say Mistborn Era 1, but that's probably because it was what I read first plus Allomancy is my favorite ❤. I was kicking around the idea of joining the discord but wasn't really sure. (Also I'm pretty sure this is how your supposed to reply to replies?)

Hello! I've been browsing the Coppermind for the last couple of months and I'm nearly caught up on the Cosmere. My roommate got me into the Cosmere but I already passed him xD. I have just White Sand 2 left. This is a super weird format to me, I'm use to website's like Imgur and reddit. But I'm excited to talk with everyone about the cosmere! Mostly to theorize on new shards, Ive spent a lot of time thinking about it lol.
