  1. The thing about speed is that you're not storing the rate of speed, but the capability for speed. Sazed describes storing speed as moving through molasses. Brandon kind of explained it like this to us at AoL, but in this example he's referring to strength.

A person who can bench 300 lbs will have greater returns on their stored strength than someone who can only bench 100 lbs. If the 300 lb lifter stores half his strength, he will only be able to lift 150 lbs while storing, and can tap that to gain his strength half again for the same amount of time, meaning that he will be able to lift 450 lbs. Where someone who benches 100 lbs storing half his strength would lift 50 lbs and tap for 150 lbs. I think that's related to what you're referring to, anyway. :P

  2. I emailed Peter about the rate from marks to broams and here's the response I got.

Five chips per mark, four marks per broam. There are also 5 levels of value according to the gemstone used.

The question I asked got a very clear answer, but the bit on the end is not quite something I understand. I'll have to ask him about that one.

  3. This seems like a good list, and I agree with your assessment of Chromium and Cadmium. The other four have been a conundrum that has plagued me for a while. Chaos suggested to me that they steal more human attributes like the Base in the upper half of the chart do, and I agree that it's possible.

However, I like the idea that they can steal abilities from different magic systems, that each can steal powers from magic systems relating to a specific group of Shards. The division on that one is a little shaky, since Ruin and Preservation wouldn't be part of that, leaving 14 Shards, which doesn't split evenly into four groups. So I'm not really sure. The Ars Arcanum essay from AoL seems to suggest that this might be the case, but the evidence for more human attributes seems pretty good as well. Though I haven't the foggiest what they would steal.

The new Feruchemy powers would suggest that Nicrosil and Duralumin would steal Spiritual aspects, but what Bendalloy and Electrum would steal baffles me.

  4. I was hoping to be there in the morning on Monday, but that's looking less and less likely since I still don't have a ride and I'll need to use the family car, which won't be available until about six or six thirty. :\ Looks like I'll be up there in the evening.

What time were you thinking for the 17S meet and greet, Rubix?

  5. The fights in the second and third round are both 4 person fights. In round 2, it's two on two, round 3 is 4 way free for all.

Frost, things look good, I just want you to put in where the Grid points are going. 2 for the Grid, 2 for the Evolver (since you're just over the limit on Forms, I'm assuming that's what you're doing), and one more that I don't know where it is.

And, now that it is officially November, I have an announcement to make.

If you've been following my posts around the forums for the last few months, you probably know that I'm leaving on an LDS mission to Argentina at the end of the month. I'll be gone for two years. One of my bigger worries about what I'm leaving behind is Nexus, as odd as that sounds. I don't want to leave you guys hanging. If it was only about six months, I'd just put the RP on hiatus while I'm gone, but it's not. I doubt we would be able to get traction again after two years of no activity. Thus, my plan has been to select someone to fill my place.

I've asked Cuaiir to take over my role as GM while I'm gone, and he's accepted. We've been talking a lot about the future and the world of Nexus, and my plans and ideas for the RP. And, during this last month, we'll be co-GMing, to help smooth the transition. I honestly don't expect the changes to be too huge, but it'll most likely be jarring for a while to see someone other than me doing authority stuff here. But don't worry, I think he'll do a brilliant job, and I expect you guys to give him your full support.

  6. It has come again! NaNoWriMo starts on Tuesday! I've got a pretty good idea of what I'm doing, though there's that I really should get an idea for before I start.

    Sound off, NaNos!

EDIT: BTW, I'm Keys on Fire on the nano site, if you want to add me as a writing buddy.

  7. I'm doing it, but I need to finish a couple of days early, so I'll be doing 2K words a day rather than the traditional 1700. It'll be my last great accomplishment before my mission. I have a fairly good starting place, so I'm hoping it'll go well.

Is anyone else on the NaNoWriMo website? I'm Keys on Fire, look me up!

Also: THREE DAYS, GUYS, EVERYONE PANIC.

  8. I'm about halfway through The Black Prism by Brent Weeks, and I'm REALLY liking it. There's a reveal about a third of the way through that just blew my mind, it was so awesome. Like, Brandon awesome, it was that good. We'll see how the rest of it is before I make a judgment on it, though.

Also, I got Name of the Wind from the library today. Will start that after Black Prism.

  9. Jay'el

I've finished cutting up that Sphere, and she's obviously frazzled. But if I'm not here when Quinn gets back... Endarkened take it.

I chase after Victoria, still trying to get her to calm down. "You realize I'd have done the same thing for you if you'd asked me to? Heck, I don't even know if I was accurate - I based that little phrase off your use of an omni-tool, I've never seen you in Form. I don't know what you mean by thiefskin. Ambro seemed normal enough to me, maybe with a bit of chronic rash, but that doesn't make him a bad man. A little paranoid, yeah, but not bad."

She's irrational... is this what Hapori meant when he spoke of heightened pains and betrayals? Because this is getting out of proportion

"Vikki. I'm not going to try and flatter you - you've already said you don't like that kind of thing. But I am going to try to be a decent human being and fellow Spheremorph, and be here if you need someone to talk to. Burly and Gregory don't exactly seem like the types to be good at listening. Not to brag, but I am because I had to help my sisters get through tough breakups while they were dating. I know what I did seems like a betrayal, and I'm trying to apologize for that. I didn't mean for it to harm you, I only meant to support my friend - you've got Burly and Gregory ready to catch you if you fall, while Ambro has... well, he has me. Maybe Eerongal, too, but that's beside the point. Every Spheremorph here fights alone, but that doesn't mean we have to be alone outside the arenas."

"You're not from the Foothills, so you wouldn't know. The thiefskin is a mark, it marks the descendants of those who stole from us. Those we shunned. It marks the untrustworthy, the murderous. And while you may assume the best about your 'friend', it's obvious he would slit your throat without a second thought if he had the inclination.

"The thing that bothers me the most about you is that you assume so much. You think you know my friends, and me, after less than a day. You think that the solutions to a teenage girl's problems will carry over to the real world, the world of Spheremorphs. You're wrong.

"You sabotaged me, or tried, you assumed on that one too, and no simple apology will make up for that. I can't take you at your word alone. Now if you'll excuse me I need to find some sucker who'll take this Bleeding Sphere."

She walks out and away toward the living quarters.

    River

I nod to Gustav. A little dinner sounds good about now. I still haven't eaten since breakfast. With a Spherematch thrown into the mix, I realize I'm starving.

"I'm not too arrogant to take good advice when it comes," I say with a smile. "I'll look forward to meeting with you again." With a friendly wave, I walk away, moving towards the dining area.

When I get there, I do a quick survey of the place, looking at how people are reacting to each other, and keeping an eye out for Piscun or Jezebel. I take note of the power dynamics in the room, hoping to seat myself with the people who look the most influential.

The matches are still going on, so neither of them is present. It's only about 2'o'clock, so dinner is still some ways off. Most people are still watching the fights. But you see there are some stragglers around. A sound distracts you, and you turn to see Peter, now thoroughly sober, standing behind you.

    "Hello, River."

    Jack Mckinney

Interesting. I wonder if its the same lightsaber or if he has a power that allows him to get various weapons.

Jack runs, ducks and weaves sending spells of a multitude of wide variety elements bouncing and colliding off each other and the Glyphs walls. using the spells as a screen Jack shifts to baseline, then Chemist.

Tank is able to reflect the shots that get too close, but the number of them is able to to him off your back while you shift, finishing just as he cleaves through the last of them. His attention is back on you.

    Eerongal

Experimentally flexing my now healed flesh, I begin to redress myself. With a smile and a nod, i bid the healer a farewell, and work my way out of the infirmary.

Let's see....What to do now? I assume I have a bit of free time on my hands to play with, given the vast amount of fights that are to be happening for first rounds still.

Grimacing, I glance around my whereabouts to get my bearings on my current location.

Honestly....I could probably do for a little relaxing. Maybe I'll find myself a nice pub. Who knows, maybe I can glean a little information about something there, between a few nice, relaxing drinks of course....

I smirk a bit and nod to myself, and with that, I set off to look for somewhere for a bit of unwinding after a hard fought battle.

There's a bar in the main room. The bartender, a short man with graying hair, is wiping the counter when you come in. He smiles at you, revealing a smile that's more gold teeth than real.

    "What'll it be, Morph?"

  10. DEFINITELY a bit of worldbuilding since we last saw it. I'm intrigued as to what the dawnfaces and sixthfaces(?) are referring to. And what's Skip's third knack!? Cliffhanger?! NOOOOOOOO!

Goshdangit, Brandon, why must you right so many things I want more of at the same time! I can't decide what I want more of!

  11. Killing machines? Nope, definitely marshmallows.

OR, I played through the Portal 2 "Peer Review" Co-op DLC with my brother, day before yesterday. Super fun, and some of the puzzles were really tough. Took us a long time to figure out that last chamber.

And the ENDING. Oh, my gosh, the ending was AWESOME.
