  1. Hello, Sharders! I have returned from my mission and am in process of catching up! Help me out!

  2. Tonight I get set apart as a missionary, tomorrow I go into the MTC, and two years later I'll be back. Love you guys, thanks for being such great friends. Good luck and God bless you.

  3. Guys, the time has come. After tonight, I won't be on the internet, let alone 17th Shard, for two years while I serve an LDS mission to Argentina. This has been an awesome experience for me and leaving you guys now is something I wish I didn't have to do, but I do. I know that Cuaiir will do a great job with you guys. Please enjoy this project I put together while I'm gone, and hopefully it'll still be running when I get back. Good luck, and know that I approve of you guys. Have fun.
  4. I would like to announce that I finished NaNoWriMo last night and my Farewell Talk tonight. I've hit most of my goals for things I need/want to do before I leave on my mission. *fist pump* Now for the other ones. EDIT: Just north of 1800 posts. If I just went nuts on here I bet I could hit 2K in the few days before I leave, but I won't. EDIT AGAIN: It's time, guys. The 30th is upon me. I get set apart tonight and go into the MTC tomorrow. I would like to announce that I will be back with a vengeance in 2 years. Thanks so much for your support in friendship so far and know that we'll pick up right where we left off. I'm just going away for a while. I'm jealous of all the stuff you'll get before I do, but I'm okay with that. Happy reading. -Silus
  5. Goshdangit. How do I not see this until less than an hour until midnight?
  6. I would place Shallan under Chach, Ruby, The Soul, Brave/Obedient. Partly because of the obvious connection between The Soul and Soulcasting, also because of its proximity to Smokestone as you mentioned, and also to Diamond, which is associated with the eyes, which fits her Memories ability to a tee. You may say that Creative/Honest fits her better, but I'd wager that Brave/Obedient are traits that we'll see become more prominent in her in her flashback book (which is next!). I'd also say that her connection to the Garnet is circumstantial at best, as the Garnet was a necessary item for Jasnah to save her from the poison. And if her first use of Soulcasting can be used as evidence toward her inclination essence-wise, I'd say the fact that she Soulcasts glass bears as much weight as using a Garnet.
  7. I believe that Brandon has said that the protagonist might be a Nicrosil Misting.
  8. My guess concerning Sliverism is that it is TLR's religion as passed down by Yomen's descendants, and that Marsh, as an Inquisitor, would be revered just like the old Inquisitors were. I'd also take a stab and say that Survivorism has kind of become the Christianity of Scadrial, in that it's the most common religion and has a lot of different variations, denominations and sects. Or at least it will once humanity spreads out a little more.
  9. CrazyRioter, I have not heard that, but it's brilliant. Did Brandon mention this, and if so, when/where? A quote would be greatly appreciated. If you look in the HoA Ars Arcanum, you'll see that certain metals grant Feruchemical powers in Hemalurgy the ones listed there are Pewter (for Physical powers) and Brass (for Mental powers). There's at least one more for Spiritual ones, which can be assumed to be a part of the Enhancement quadrant (using Allomantic terminology). My guess is Nicrosil, but we won't really know the specifics until Brandon tells us.
  10. This is a solid theory, I approve. My thinking is that Aluminum and Duralumin Mistings would become Hazekillers, jealous of the power they don't really have. (that is if they're aware of their power/non-power)
  11. My current wordcount is 32,525 words. *fist pump*
  12. Essentially, Wayne is taking the skills of a really good improv actor and weaponizing them, a scary thought.
  13. Though I doubt that new koloss could breed like the others.
  14. Another thing that would make it more difficult to Compound Atium would be just how fast it burns allomantically. That would probably reduce just how much you can get out of it.
  15. The silencer thing is something that everyone gets wrong, thanks for mentioning that, Ink. I'd forgotten about the RPG book and how they would have more stuff we haven't seen yet, though I don't know if they'd have things related to Twinborn given that it doesn't have Alloy stuff in it.
  16. Sister was trying to memorize the 12 days of Christmas, and I'm sitting here remembering the times of shouting that song with a bunch of elementary school kids during Madrigals Christmas concerts. SUPER FUN TIMES. I miss it so much!

  17. The classical elements that you listed wouldn't work as Surges, not just because Brandon is using a different set of forces for Surgebinding, but because there are only five of them, where there are ten Surges.
  18. I was just thinking that drawing Nightblood takes an ENORMOUS amount of Breath, and as far as I'm familiar with Magic, that seems to fit with the Black mentality.
  19. Though I'd say make him pure black and make the cost even more ridiculously high. It just fits his style more. Now, Awakening I think would use all the colors.
  20. But the Blessings are always two of the same metal. My question regarding Blessings is whether they need to steal human attributes to form a Blessing. Could you use two steel spikes instead? Could this create a Kandra with allomancy?
  21. I changed my username a little bit ago, my new handle is FlameBrain619.
  22. Silus is like Silas but with with a deeper "uh" sound instead of a straight schwa. If you don't know how to say Shard of Flame, I would ask how you read Brandon's books.
  23. 20,593 right now, wanting to get to 22K before the end of the night.
  24. Because "soon" means never. The Ball will never end. I pity you, out in the cold for so long. I DESPISE cold. So glad I'm going to South America for two years.
