"Well, this place is pretty calm with the amount of guild support we've gotten recently, so you've come to the right place." The soldier smiled her best friendly smile. She didn't like feeling like she was freaking people out.

"I promise," Ax said. "You don't have to worry about that." He kissed Jace's nose.

"Well, uh, no," the soldier said, blushing. "I just wanted to say hi. So, um, why are you here?"

"Oh, um, I won't touch you if you don't want me to," the soldier said.

"Yup," Ax said, hugging Jace and giving him a kiss on the forehead.

"I wouldn't ever do that!" Ax said indignantly.

The soldier clapped the woman on the shoulder. "Well, welcome!" @kenod

One of the soldiers walked over and stood near the priest. "Hello, you new?" she asked the woman who was talking to the priest. @kenod

Ax woke up as he heard Jace's sobbing, and hugged him tightly. Ax's eyes were a little teary as well, and he panted to try and clear it. Sherlock was spinning around the floor nearby, but slowed quickly and curled up on Ax's hand. Ax looked at Sherlock, then showed the back of his hand to Jace. "Um, this is Sherlock..." @ShadowLord_Lith

Ax panted and shivered. Hating himself this much was hard, and he wasn't used to doing it anymore. He took a few shaky breaths and got to his knees, looking down at himself. This wasn't him. "Shamrock," he said, and Sherlock appeared. Ax looked at the spren. It was calmer and more emotionless like this. It stood as a person, the same size as Ax. "Hello," Sherlock said, looking down at Ax with a little worry in its usually excited and emotion-filled eyes. It had a deeper voice than it did when it was Shamrock. "Are you... okay?" "That's a real debate at this point," Ax said tiredly, holding out his hand. "Could you help me up?" Sherlock obliged, and Ax stood before his spren. He unconsciously crossed his arms. "You don't have to embarrassed around me," Sherlock said, voice even. "I remember when you were female." "I know," Ax said, "but I cross my arms when I'm thinking. Are we in a dream?" "Yes," Sherlock said. "The projection of me in front of you is not real, but my voice is. I can talk in your head, of course." "Right. I want to wake up... Wait, if this is a dream..." Ax closed his eyes, and Sherlock stayed silent in front of him as he turned back into his normal self, wearing khakis and a green t-shirt. "That feels a lot better," Ax said, smiling. He was glad the nightmare was over.

Ax was somewhere else now. Standing in the middle of his Radiant friends. They made a ring around him and scowled at him. He wondered why, then looked down and saw that he was naked, but it wasn't his body, it was the body of him before, but grown up. They turned away from him one by one, and he hated himself for existing. He tried to fall onto his knees and curl up, but he couldn't, he stayed standing. He wanted to die. He hated himself. And then Jace was there. Jace stared at him for a moment, then turned away. This time, Ax could move. He stumbled forward and got in front of Jace. "Jace, Jace, can you hear me? Stay with me?" Jace didn't speak. He tried walking around Ax, but Ax moved in front of him again. "Jace, please..." Ax started crying. "I'm gay, you liar," Jace snarled, and elbowed Ax in the face. Ax fell onto his knees. He was thin and weak. He wrapped his arms around Jace's legs and cried harder, burying his face in Jace's knees. Jace was taller than he should've been. "Please, I love you, please," Ax managed to say into Jace's knees. He looked up at Jace, but Jace's face was hard and cold and hating. "You," Jace kicked Ax in the ribs and made Ax hurt even more, "deserve," another kick, "more," yet another kick, "than," a punch in Ax's face, "this." He toppled Ax over and wrapped his fingers around Ax's throat, throttling him. Ax tried to say "please" again, but couldn't speak, only stare at how much Jace hated him. Then Jace was gone. Everyone was gone, and Ax was alone on a highway, curled up, hating himself for being born wrong. He cried and cried and wanted to kill himself.

Ax glanced around. He was in a mostly-empty trailer park... no... He spun. He look see his aunt on the porch of one, talking with her children. He walked to her, and she looked at him. "Little girl," she said, "why do you think you have the right to make your own decisions? Why do you think you're a boy when you're not?" "I am a boy!" Emily shouted, afraid. "I'm a boy and there's nothing you can do about it so leave me alone and stop hurting me! You can't hurt me!" They could. She glanced down at her uncharacteristically thin, shaky forearms. There were bruises on them, and they throbbed. "I hate you! I hate you all... Leave me alone... Please..." Her aunt slowly stood up and took her arm, nails biting into her bruises and making her start crying before she stopped herself. If they saw her cry, it only encouraged them. Emily's aunt led her into the trailer, and then Emily was standing on a different porch, screaming. Her mother had walked into the middle of a field while she'd been asleep, and was holding a pistol up to her head. Emily jumped off the porch and landed on her knees, starting to cry as she looked up. A shot rang through the air, and Emily's mother fell to the ground in a spray of red. Emily managed to start running. "MOM!" Ax shouted as he fell to his knees next to her. There was a hole in her head, and blood everywhere... he wanted to die with his mother, but the gun was gone. "Mom, don't leave me... You know that they all hate me... ma..." He sat back and buried his face in his hands, starting to cry. He hated crying. He hated his mother for making him cry.
