  1. To be honest I think a shard spear would be more awesome if it was more effective at not killing everything it touches. After all defeating someone does not have to automatically mean you kill them. In fact I think that in many cases shard blades are overkill and overused to the point of simplifying one of the most terrible of all things; killing. I do think that if the shaft of the spear had more concussive effect that would be kind of cool especially if that would allow it to damage plate better. Again though killing should be the last option not the Only option.
  2. What about the face in the storm? Could that be jezrien trying to undo some of his actions by becoming the stormfather again? If it is or another Herald maybe the honorblade let's him be one with the storms that way.
  3. Well I like the uniform on this one better but the huge font covers up too much of the storm. Now maladies leg looks to be in an awful position. Overall a wash on the last one for me. Oh but is there a good closeup of the patch on his shoulder out there that might be bridge fours new one.
  4. I have always thought it was from the prospectively a herald whom possibly kings for destruction, either their own or just the end of it all. I don't think the destruction is guaranteed to be bad just an end.
  5. I have been thinking how interesting it would be if Kaladin, Dalinar, and Adolin were attacked by say Szeth, Sadeas, and Amaram all at once out on the plains. Now who else thinks that Kaladin in the position to try and make a hard choice to fight his personal foe's vs. the one he is most equipped to fight and how much do you think having a scene where each could be crazy awesome would truly make for a good scene with the following: 1 Kaladin first fighting a full shard bearer but needing to move to szeth in mid fight and going full surgebinder on him. 2 Dalinar coming up to fight Sadeas without his shards and still winning. 3 Adolin for a time holding off both shard bearers and seriously impressing, before defeating Amaram. Yeah it would be awesome, but who would personally torment Kaladin? Darkness? Shallen? Maybe just girls in general. That would be fun; awesome darkeyed Captain with the girl troubles and the best sidekick ever Lopen who glows on command for the girls to take one for team Kaladin.
  6. Yeah pretty much agree with you on all of this. I think the initial gulf between their ranks when we first meet them are worth them getting together. Imagine Kaladin the lowest of the low Branded, sold, given a spot to take an arrow so another man could eventually charge over his corpse but secretly killed a full shardbearer, trained in surgery (and surge binding, lots of surging going on here ) trains his former arrow bait companions into a force capable of rescuing thousands of soldiers and a pair of full shardbearers, even though he has a serious hate-on for the lighteyes that comprise a good portion of it. Now imagine Jasnah a woman whom goes where she wants does what she wants is seen being asked for favors by other Kings and a noted spinster (of 34 HAH), and capable of vaporizing, crystallizing and other wise turning hardened murderers into corpsicles with a mere wave of her hand, sister to the king and academic whom has a short way with fools and cut-purses. Now what could they do together that would be awesome? Well My thought is if Jasnah gets Teleporting in some way and Kaladin has Windrunning I think they could be like playing Half-Life with the portal gun in one hand and the gravity gun in another. Yeah I want to see all of that and the looks of shock as Jasnah walks past any number of highprinces whom would like to woo her to take the arm of a man that has "Dangerous" Branded onto his forehead. Yeah that makes me chuckle a bit. Oh and yeah I also agree with Natans above me. If I see anything but Jasnah want to turn szeth into a pile of chull dung I would be a bit surprised and saddened.
  7. One thing about Shen in this is that it is almost normal human interaction and more personality then we have ever seen from a Parshman, all other times parshmen have acted like robots that do not make decisions. Even if this is the same level as Parshmen Nannies it brings the whole group up to a more independent level of humanity. I Love that. Now I have an interesting thought what if the group bonding we are seeing with the Kholin's works like that with Kaladin and members of bridge 4 become Spren bonded like him just for some other orders, and what if one of these others is Shen? Would he interact like a Parshendi or would it be some other interaction that to be honest would be pretty cool in itself.
  8. I agree about this. In fact I find mindless pandering for something so inconsequential as upvotes to be beyond ridiculous and offensive. I used to like tension more before reading this thread to be honest now I am going to avoid these threads to avoid further taint my view of the character by all the awful pandering going on here. See ya on threads that matter.Edited for stupid phone auto correct.
  9. With Sanderson one rule seems to be there are always more powers or tweaking of current rules. I just doubt that someone that is not on the path to being a radiant or herald know everything about a subset of powers in the first book of a ten book series. It would leave a lot flat.
  10. Yeah it seems like a fairly good observation that the lashings are just one group of abilities available to windrunners and not their entirety. I think this is why Kaladin may be a decent match for Szeth in a one in one fight.
  11. Still no recorded extended version out there? Man I am kicking myself more often do not recording this.
  12. Via: Photo posted by Ted Gore in the Landscape gallery on 06/13/13 at 02:32 am EST Same website I just linked
  13. Hey here is a site that links alot of landscape pictures which many times remind me of Roshar. http://www.naturephotographers.net/imagecritique/ic.cgi?a=vg2&ns=1
  14. Actually they apparently were all chosen for awesomeness, Dalinar was the Blackthorn whom in nearly every way was eclipsed by his elder brother whom he helped conquer alethkar and was overcoming his guilt to be just about the last truly honorable highprince in that nation before he started to receive his visions. Kaladin was a gifted surgeons apprentice before he volunteered to go with his beloved younger brother to war to protect him and ultimately failing in a devastating way that truly forged him into the man he has become. Shallen was a pampered daughter of a nobleman whom was seemingly a step away from the throne, until he was killed, by his pampered daughter who then took his shardblade and shortly left to save her family from debts her father had accrued. Her plan? Steal one of the most valuable artifacts in the world from one of the most power and smart people in the world. She succeeded. All these people are awesome before we see them get their magic powers. In a world of dead gods, false and broken saviors, and all encompassing magic forces to have these people be chosen for these very aspects of who they are to lead, as the fight for their world comes quietly to the forefront. If this is all the nightwatcher then this is a lame version of accrual but instead of one champion that seemed to have had power from a young age and being fought over by both gods. Instead we have them spammed out and abandonded in such a way only Dalinar even mentions it. This is early into a series and have thousands of years of back story to tell to get to a point where we have better knowledge of the goes and why's. I still believe that the nightwatcher as the reason they have their powers just turns them into convenient tools instead of the heroes they are.
  15. The coincidence would be that all these awesome people who could be radiants just because they are awesome all actually only can be capable because the nightwatcher made them so. It changes them into tools for the nightwatcher. And still it would be a plot of coincidence and convenience which would be lame.
  16. Yeah I am voting with madrand on this. Coincidences kinda suck as plot points.
  17. This is so true. As to the nightwatcher I think Shallen has something that is based on the magic system on roshar which the nightwatcher can manipulate but is not controlled entirely by her. I think it is much like Kaladin and his spear his bond and abilities enhances and perfects, but it is not a grafted on power.
  18. I don't think the whole Army with mistings and Vin and Elend and the rest of the thieving crew would be a fair representation of how much Investiture each group would have. Elend was effectivly a first gen Mistborn while Vin was the Champion of BOTH Scadrial Shards. The other mistings would be good but that is like fighting a Herald and The Lord Ruler at the same time with several people with more powers that they have had for a while. Now take the Rosharan Shard bearers, Dalinar, Adolin, Elokhar, fabrial weilders Jasnah, Navani, Shallen, and throw in Kaladin, then add it all together to Talenel and have the armies be of similar composition and give both sides limited resources and see how well they do. I think Taln, and Dalinar's experience at war carry the day.
  19. Dragons are intelligent and can read letters sent to them so I would think they can do a lot of things.
  20. Solid reasoning there upvote coming at you for going for a great in universe answer. Now hopefully you didn't get it from killing your evil dad.
  21. Yes I agree with this entirely. I don't doubt that in the intervening years that many of them have deluded themselves into thinking they really deserve alot of bad things happening to them. Each of the reasons they broke the oathpact seems to have fallen apart or been flat out destroyed, their reasonings having been so long ago each passing year adds more and more to their doubts and recriminations till I would not doubt if several tried to do incredibly dangerous things to punish themselves much as we see Baxils mistress destroying art in a way that seems a little bit personal.
  22. I don't know how all the abilities work but I will say that gravity can be manipulated in many various ways. Physics says that the faster something moves the more mass and gravity has an effect on you. Maybe the lashings are a way to bond a form of energy, stormlight, with a target and that energy is creating a warped gravity field due to its interaction, speed, and direction as imposed by the Surgebinder. I don't know but Stormlight seems pretty freaking awesome for its utility. With the right training it would not surprise me to see people Fighting surgebinders be outfought just by walking in the wrong area, Like a piece of floor set as a trap that literally has dozens of G's worth of gravity and pressure turning those that walk through it into pancakes with crushed bones and stopped hearts. Just by walking around a corner over a spot on the ground. Yeah I love Brandons magic systems.
  23. Yeah Seriously one of the most evil spoilers ever. I was happy to hear the info but at such a terrible price. I hope Navani slaps him for me.
  24. Yeah once again my bad all around on the confusion. I will try and clarify this in an edit.
  25. I hope someone did as well wish I had recorded it anyway but I didn't think he would keep going past his other stopping point. This was in Salt Lake City at the kings English stop on the 25th. Sorry I did not mention that earlier.
