I still see no evidence against my theory on Roshars broken afterlife. We know that Roshar has some of the most naturally invested people that we've seen in the cosmere and the more invested someone is, the longer it takes their shadow to dissipate. Vorinism didn't change the way the Beyond works, just how souls react once they die. Vorins that lived their calling go to the Tranquline Halls to help the Heralds while the rest slumber until the Tranquline Halls are re-captured. Once that happens, the Beyond will still likely pull any trapped souls that dont have enough Investiture to persist. My little sub theory is that the collective soul Investiture is where Spren go to create their children, but that's mostly me trying to explain Syl's description of their procreation

Throughout many of the books in the series we see that thought impacts the way investiture behaves. However, I dont think we realized just how potent that impact can be. One of Ambitions anti-splinters was essentially turned into a protector God because the people of the planet kept telling stories that made it eventually come true. This opens a whole new can of worms regarding many other planets and the tales they tell. How much becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy just because enough of the population believes it. The first of the Cosmere i read was Elantris, where a major religion has spent a long time believing that of everyone on the planet worships their god, he will return. This planet also happens to have two entire Shards worth of investiture just hanging out in Shadesmar. The likelihood of Jaddeth being real is pretty high, regardless of if he existed before. It also lowers the chance he's an Avatar of Autonomy, but doesnt remove it. Next, we have Roshar, where they spent thousands of years believing Vorinism. In my mind, this lends a great deal of credibility to my theory that the afterlife on Roshar is absolutely broken. The dead don’t go to the Beyond. They get pulled to the Tranquline Halls, likely a location in the Spirit Realm akin to the Dragon beach. The voices that Szeth hears, or Evi's voice to Dalinar are actually happening. How about Scadrial? We have a religion based on our favorite ghost being immortal, and now he will be. Or tales of his brother spread through the Cosmere to ensure Death can't die either? A certain Diety that is having a crisis of faith while people speak of the coming of Discord? The Cosmere is what it's society thinks it is for long enough. Self-actuallizing.

Give me your least relevant and impactful speculations

Roshar was a giant musical instrument. The Wind blowing over the Dawncities played their Pure Tones and caused the super scale patterns that Kabsal showed Shallan. -
It's like a note and a beat. To specify, the Pure Tones are the Shards Identity. Every person has their own tone, but the ones that matter significantly belong to the Shards. The Rhythm is when, and with what intensity, a tone is played. Look up some images for music theory diagrams, they're pretty interesting in context of the Cosmere. Specifically, transformative music theory and the circle of fifths

The investiture that leaks from Nightblood isn't Ruin flavor, its more like a bunch of different investiture got thrown in a blender. Rather than red of corrupted investiture, black is mangled beyond recognition. The Nightmares in Yumi are an example of this. Same with Shades on Threnody. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/535/#e16587 But as for powers, if i had to guess, the surge of division is probably the closest related to him, much like bondsmithing seems to be the surge of Honor. Division lit an entire world on fire after all. The way is described when Szeth uses it seems to be me typing things apart on a molecular level. Diss the Chris In Yumi, the outer edge of Kilahito and the Nightmares are being described as being completely nonreflective, and they drip with a black liquid that smokes. The same description has been given to the Midnight Essence and to Nightblood. Are these linked, and indicative of some kind of warped Investiture? Brandon Sanderson They are significantly linked. (There you are; we’ll use “significantly” in that regard.) https://wob.coppermind.net/events/526/#e16416

Much like running a magnet over a piece of metal, I think that the Tone picked up becomes part of the investiture. Yes, they resonate with the tones once they hold them because that's another way that sound waves work. Hold a tuning fork and play the note, the fork will vibrate. Hit the fork, it'll play the note. That note is still part of what that tuning fork is regardless of if it's echoing something else or being used itself. The more I reread the series the more convinced I am that tone is the Identity and the rhythm is the Intent. Hearing the Tone instantly tells people who it belongs to and the moment Odium gained a new Vessel, his Tone changed. The Well emitted Preservations Tone too. Side note, there are 4 tones on Roshar, so either Ado left enough of himself there or there's another Shard hiding out. The singers constantly talk about the Rythms altering their mental state. It makes them more prone to the Intent that comes along with that Rythm. Hum Peace, you're more chill. Anticipation makes you anxious for stuff to happen. Bronze burners hear the rhythms and tones. Copper clouds stifle them. Brass broadcasts the rhythm and zinc plays the inverse, both result in altered mental states for those around because it changes the person's Intent to try and match it. The best visual I can come up with would be those videos with a bunch of metronome started at different times eventually synching up. Yes, investiture can come in different states, but that's not indicative of which Shard controls it. Dor is one of the liquid forms. Stormlight and the Mists are gaseous forms. All Godmetals are solid forms. The fact that any and all of them can become solid should be a clue towards them being able to change states.

That makes sense. Pretty much what i figured was going on
-
This is more of an inconsistency... but why does the Sibling bond give Navani the ability to hear the Tones of Roshar, but the Stormfater bond doesn't do the same for Dalinar? They're both ancient Spren of Roshar that emit their Tone and can hear the rest, so what's the deal? The only time I remember Dalinar commenting on hearing them is when he got thrown into the Spirit Realm
-
I get the destructive interference part of anti light and normal light, but before they inverted the tone, they stripped it of any tone in the vacuum chamber. For a time, it was pure investiture with no identity. There's nothing to say they had to give it the anti-stormlight (honor) tone at all. They could have given it any tone they knew
-
My understanding of the God Metals is that it is investiture in solid form.l. it is attributes are determined by which Shard Identity it contains. From what we seen in RoW, changing the identity of the investiture can be done with sound. They remove the Honor from Stormlight and turn it into Anti-Honor. The Ghostbloods in WaT imply this was the key to them simply blanking investiture of identity so anyone could use it. What would happen with blank investiture if you could manifest it physically? What kind of God Metal would that be. And more importantly, can Kelsier now impart a completely different Shards Identity on investiture, say Preservation, and create more Larasium? Or Trellium? Or whatever God Metal or Alloy they want? Or am I way off base on assuming that's what happened with the Lights?

Dawnshard Theory and How to Categorize Shards
CMac716 replied to LordOfStorms's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The idea of the inversion is more like, it pushes that intent into the rest of the power. I'm gonna alter the idea slightly tho, because if there is a polarity, it would have pushed that intent away to begin with. Like, imagine a petri dish of water and metal shavings with 4 different charges. Put a single charge magnet to the edge and drive that charge (intent) away from where you put it. The point closest would be devoid of that intent, but there would be more and more the further you got. Do that in a corner for each charge and then evenly quarter the dish before repeating the process with each quarter. You start with 2 quarters containing some change, 1 that's mostly change, and 1 with very little. Repeat for Shardic Intents. Guess it would work in either direction. Push to one side or pull to one. Might have to do some more thinking on this tomorrow.. Idk. It's probably just my way of trying to cope with the how both Dawnshards have a polar opposite. How about Move, Inspire, Enlighten. -
Dawnshard Theory and How to Categorize Shards
CMac716 replied to LordOfStorms's topic in Cosmere Discussion
My guess was that Change functioned as an inversion modifier. But then we got Exist and it made it hard to resolve the fact that double Change and double Exist would both result in Preservation... so that kinda ended that train of thought. The second idea was that the Dawnshards kind of had a polarity to them, like magnets. So the first time they used the Dawnshard it positively charges it with that Command, but if you use it the second time, it would push that intent away, essentially inverting it. It fixes the problem with double Change and double Exist. Double Change still becomes Preservation, but double Exist makes far more sense for Ruin than just constant change. Something changing doesn't mean the thing is gone, it's just different. No Ship of Theseus discussions on this point.... The most recent combo i was trying was Experience and Understand, but I couldn't really work through the whole chart again. Maybe Control and Care? Give? Share? Someone help before I lose more sleep again while trying to figure this out..... -
What if the 4th moon was an Aether? Got a little hungry and decided to just go for the water down below. Lol

Zellion isn't free of his Torment. He found a prescription drug to deal with the symptoms. He has to keep using the cinderheart to siphon of the scarred portion of his spiritweb in order to overcome it. Wit could do something similar if he can find the right tools, but being able to harm people again doesn't really seem important to him. He works from the shadows because the ones he's working against aren't ones you can take in a fight.

I actually made a post about BAM being the girl not too long ago. The transition from white hair to red reeks of a corrupted spren. A world with no light sound a lot like shadesmar to me. The stealing of God's Light lines up with her taking the Perpendicularity and giving forms back to her Singers

Why Doesn't El Want a Title?
CMac716 replied to Human Spawn 1123581321's topic in Stormlight Archive
Roshar seems to embody the idea of the zeitgeist. The more people believe a thing the more it becomes a reality. Especially if that thing is a mass of investiture rather than a physical realm being. The spren constantly say they're affected by perception. A title allows people to easily focus their perception towards that individual and influence who they are. -
You pretty much hit all the points that make me think so to. I tried analyzing the language on Roshar to figure what each piece of her name meant. Like, Ado on Roshar means Light. Closest thing I could find for Ba was part of Bakhash, which means seek. Along with Mishram being her original name, she could have gotten the title of Light Seeker, Mishram. Would also hint at her taking the Perpendicularity.
-
It's described as something like scar tissue on the soul. So the Dawnshards quilte literally burn it into your soul that you're not allowed to go against it.
-
That last bit was why I figured BAM was the original Night. She foresook humanity and the Spren to join Odium for the Singers, so Cultivation replaced her with the Nightwatcher. Maybe she planned to have her literally keep an eye on BAM once Cult left.

Dawnshard Theory and How to Categorize Shards
CMac716 replied to LordOfStorms's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Another way to look at authority would be control or power. Which is another concept I've had rattling around. Every time I think I've got a possible answer I always run it thru a. Couple checklists and then try to use it for the Dawnshard pairings. 1. Is it a verb. It's a command so it has to be a call to action. Do this thing. 2. Does it make sense as a fundamental building block of the Cosmere, or just humanity? 3. Is it too restricting or too broad? 4. What would the double Shard be? 5. What would be the best combo for "theorized dawnshard" + Change/Exist or Exist/Change + "theorized dawnshard" I always end up with holes.... -
I kind of assumed BAM was the Night

Dawnshard Theory and How to Categorize Shards

Know? -
So, we've all heard the story. We know that some female once lived in a dark place of no light, surrounded by walls to keep them locked in. I've seen some assume this refers to the humans of Ashyn escaping Shinovar and learning to use Stormlight. Now that WaT is done, we have some more history on other characters, like BAM. I very strongly believe that BAM is The Girl. A lot of my reasoning comes down to intuition, but there are hints. The white hair turning red makes me immediately think of a Spren that was corrupted. The home of dark with no Light feels strongly like Shadesmar. The escape from the prison to steal God's Light to being back to her people is perfectly in line with her taking up Odiums Perpendicularity.

Dawnshard Theory and How to Categorize Shards
CMac716 replied to LordOfStorms's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think I'd prefer something more enveloping than think or feel. One only covers emotion and the other logic. Something like Understand hits both and leaves an opening for the more active side of things, like Act, though I do have issues with that too, but I can't really explain why....something like Experience makes me more comfortable and still involves doing things. -
There's also the quote about who set him on his path. “Those words came to me from one who claimed to have seen the future,” the voice said, echoing in the hallway. Feminine, familiar. “ ‘How is this possible?’ I asked in return. ‘Have you been touched by the void?’ “The reply was laughter. ‘No, sweet king. The past is the future, and as each man has lived, so must you.’ ..... “ ‘The question,’ she replied, ‘is not whether you will love, hurt, dream, and die. It is what you will love, why you will hurt, when you will dream, and how you will die. This is your choice. You cannot pick the destination, only the path.’ ” All in all, it tells us his path was set by a female with strong futuresight and no ties to the Void. Cultivation makes the most sense, imo.
