Mid-Range Game 30/Anonymous Game 2: - Scadrian Black Ops
Melon Dingo replied to Seonid's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Some if my earlier posts should shed light on why I think azure's post is good. I'm certainly not going to spoon-feed that info to you if you haven't picked up on that yet. Edit: apologies, this sounded harsher than intended. I thought you where scorpion, with whom I had a discussion earlier today that made my position rather clear, so this accusation seemed really odd and reaching. A number of people seem to accept emeralds explanation of why they didn't know the village win-con, while still being willing to vote on them. Since the only additional info we'd get if emerald isn't lying is the name of his unaligned role, it's essentially a mislynch that won't even help much with identifying the real elims, as most people went in with the knowledge that falcon isn't an elim. It's basically the perfect mislynch, as it neither hurts nor implicates the elims. -

...why does the most active game in months have to be the one in which I have to be less active for two cycles? Anyway, mouse is the first one to talk sense in regard to non-village, non-elim roles. You should all listen to him. Also, any person looking to lynch falcon because of suspicions regarding his role should be looked at in detail. I'd do this myself, but I lack the time right now. I'm not saying that there aren't valid reasons to lynch falcon(thinking he's lying about being neutral, for example), but lynching him specifically because of the information he's given sounds off to me. You know its not a lynch on an elim, and yet a lot of people are willing to lock in on that lynch anyway. -

I'm not denying this. I'd just like to point out that an elim would have nothing to gain by doing this. I don't disagree that it might look odd, but I can't figure out why a member of the elim team would make a comment like that. -

'Fleeing' is implied by 'refugee' though. Fleeing refugee is a bit of a tautology. I'm not ruling out something more going on, but it might also be that all non-refugee villagers have something related to running away in their role-name. Anyway, vulture . He was right about albatross, but the way he kept highlighting how his defense of albatross got him in trouble no matter how magenta would flip suggests a mindset far more focussed on self-preservation than on solving the game. Ivory, can you elaborate more on your suspicion? The only thing I get from your accusation was my slight hesitation in marking greens as villagers. I'd like to point out that as an elim, I'd likely know what the village faction was, and would feel no need to show hesitation on this regard. -

Just an FYI, I'll be less active over the next two cycles. I'll still have time to check in and vote, but don't expect any deep analysis until monday. Anyway, two people with green roles died, so they're likely village. Magenta claimed to be vanilla, and the role-name seems to suggest that. I can't see why he'd lie about that if he's village, anyway. The fleeing informant role seems more interesting, but it could be a lot of things. My first guess would be a PM spy, but we don't have PM's this game, so maybe some kind of role-scanner? The lack of an 'odd' death (someone dying with an unusual role) also suggest that, if there's a Kandra, he/she hasn't felt the need to use their powers yet. -

Magenta albatross Amber Vulture My main point of suspicion on on Albatross was how people seemed to be quickly rallying to his suspicion. Vulture on the other hand is the main person that came to his defense, and has constantly been highlighting how Magenta's flip would affect his own alignment, which looks like an elim trying to cover his behind, especially if magenta is village. -

I'm not sure what else can add right now (it'd really be best if I where to go get some sleep instead). I can see where Indigo weasel could have misread Swans intentions but, it'd have required a really cursory glance to make that mistake. I don't dislike the rest of his posts, so I'm not really that suspicious of him right now, though I'll keep an eye on him. -

Elims could decide to jump on quickly to help a team-mate, rather than risk that vote gathering more momentum. Right now they could still get away with a relatively light defense and a vote elsewhere to try and get voting momentum to go in another direction, but if the Magenta lynch where to gather more momentum, it'd become harder to justify not voting on him if he flips elim and it would become more difficult to get the vote to go elsewhere. -

Can I note that the lynch attempt on Magenta Albatross caused a pretty quick response and pile-up on Ivory? I also disagree that lynching an inactive is the best course of action for gathering information. It's not quite as low information as it would be in other games, because at least we'd get to learn about a role and/or alignment, but I disagree that it's a better lynch than a lynch on an active, as it'll not gain us any information we can use to find out people's alignment, unless he happens to be an inactive elim. Magenta Albatross for now, as I really dislike the activity that popped up to seemingly protect her. Edit: Secondary suspicion right now would be indigo weasel, for his misrepresenting of what Swan said. -

Have you read Era 2? Because the Kandra no longer have an inviolable law against killing people in that time period. Or was that not the reason you thought the Kandra would be unlikely to be evil? Anyway, though the 'Kandra' role is really interesting to talk about (and it's the only one we've gotten a hint to their existence),a re there any other hints to factions/mechanics that we could speculate on? I'd note that the Captain mentioned in the write-up has been killed in a particularly savage way, and seems to have apparently lost all his blood. This suggest that at least one killing role is of a particularly savage temperament. The lack of blood also suggest that this monster either has very odd feeding habits, or the presence of a hemalurgist in need of blood to store his spikes in. It could potentially be both, with the killer being some kind of hemalurgic construct serving or working with a hemalurgist. Either way I look at it, it suggest the presence of hemalurgy in this game though. Or maybe I'm reading a bit too much in a single line of text. -

I've been thinking about the mechanic some more. My initial thought was that it's a serial killer role that would simply swap after every kill (so the first to die would be the Kandra, and then we'd see their kills with a cycle's delay) but there's other options as well, such as the one you describe. I consider it less likely that the 'Kandra' is friendly to the village as any account-swapping mechanic seems to be inherently intended to allow the owner of the role to hide. There could be a faction with the express goal of killing the Kandra, which would allow for that role to be non-hostile to the village, but I won't assume that until someone gets lynched while being part of a faction that sounds like it might indeed be looking for a Kandra because of Occam's Razor. Indigo weasel does bring up an interesting point about the swapping of accounts up. i suppose we'll know how it works in a cycle or two for sure, unless something about the swap mechanic incentivizes keeping it secret. -

If I've been reading between the lines correctly, there's one or more mechanics in this game that allows people to take over an account. I think it's likely that the people doing this need to be lynched (after all, what could the point of such a sneaky mechanic be if the village isn't expected to interact with it). Therefore, for us to be able to easily detect body-swappers (*cough*Kandra*cough*), I'd like to encourage everyone to be active and try to get some 'typical' posts out so that anyone impersonating the original holder of an account will have to put in some work to seem genuine. @Seonid, can you include a list of the accounts taking part in this game, so we can reference easily who is and isn't around? And if someone switches in as a pinch-hitter, would they be allowed to announce this in blue text? This might be important to avoid confusion if my body-swapper theory is correct. -
