Mid-Range Game 41 / Anonymous Game 8: Lord of Chaos
Fifth Scholar replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Moghedien, despite her fear and cowardice, smiled as she walked up to Moridin’s corpse. At last, to be free of that wretched man’s control. Stooping, she took her cour’souvra from his breast pocket, and tucked it inside her own, feeling dizzyingly lightheaded with joy. She would examine it later, and figure out how to undo its weaves so that it would no longer pose a threat, but she was free. No longer would she feel the cold touch of his hand on his pocket as a reminder of her failure. No longer could a chance accident strip her of her sanity and will. The time of terror was over. But the time for caution was not. Moghedien heard bickering voices coming closer. It appeared, from their sounds, that they were discussing that infernal nuisance Lews Therin; he had evaded their capture for too long now, it was true, and few Chosen remained to stand against him. She felt a sharp stab of annoyance as the discussion seemed to accuse her, though. Hadn’t she been put through enough? Had her meager position in the Great Lord’s eyes really made them believe she could be sheltering a sworn foe? She had maintained more loyalty to him than many of the Chosen might have in her captivity. Yet it seemed that was all forgotten in the desperation of the attempt to kill the Dragon. Well, perhaps it would help for them to remember why she survived when they did not. Escape was in order. Though gateways out of Amadicia would immediately alert the Chosen, something closer by would do the trick for a moment. Once she was out of immediate reach, she could journey more conventionally before Travelling again out of the Dragon’s reach. Amadicia was enough of a killing ground. Visualising the street corner in Amador which she had learned for just such a purpose, Moghedien wove saidar, creating a small gateway for herself. As she stepped through, several things happened. The shouts behind her grew louder and suddenly intensified; the other Chosen had found her. With yells of anger they wove fire, which Moghedien ducked, though she heard screams behind her—perhaps she was not alone. She pivoted as she closed the gateway, stray weaves flickering through, and found herself looking into the steely cold eyes of a white-cloaked man whose sword was already in motion, two of his fellows looking on in grim approval. No weave was fast enough to stop the man’s blow from severing her head. Chartreuse Penguin was lynched! Penguin (2): Falcon, Scorpion Hyena (1): Tuatara Chartreuse Penguin was killed! Apologies for the late notice, but this cycle will be extended by 24 hours to accommodate my schedule, which is currently too busy to carve the time out for rollover tonight. The cycle will now end on Thursday 23 April at 9 PM EDT. On the plus side, this will allow some of you to post, vote and send in orders, some of which I still do not have. @Amethyst Scorpion @Coral Swan @Chartreuse Penguin @Charcoal Hyena @Emerald Falcon @Cream Tuatara- 235 replies

Fifth Scholar replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Rahvin cast furtive glances about him as he stood in the tall grasses of the Amadician plain. A conspicuous target, should anyone be seeking to harm him, but it was a risk worth taking, in his estimation. He could have sworn that he almost saw Lews Therin seconds ago, as if the man had somehow allowed his Mask of Mirrors to slip. Very foolish, that would be—or very brave, perhaps, in the estimation of those Lews favoured. In any case, he readied his saidin, preparing to strike the man down should he see which of the faces looking up at him were, in fact, his compatriots, and which were working against the Great Lord. None of those considerations mattered, however, when he was struck from behind by a particularly potent weave, and his charred corpse made little sound as it hit the grass. Mesaana watched Rahvin fall forward, a vague look of displeasure on her face. Even if the man was not Lews Therin, he did look like he was about to strike the rest of them down given the first opportunity. Still, it was disappointing that more Chosen were dying without the Dragon being found. Amadicia was only so large—where was he? A scenario in which all of the Chosen had taken new forms just to slaughter each other to the last flashed into her mind, which she dismissed as folly. None of them would have come here if the Dragon had not been cornered. As with Rahvin, however, she had spent too much time in thought, and a sudden noise made her snap her head up; a dark figure raised its hands, and darkness itself fell over her vision. Coral Swan was lynched! Vote Count: Swan (3): Vulture, Scorpion, Dragonfly Fuchsia Ostrich was slain! She was Mesaana the Forsaken! Magenta Albatross was slain! He was Rahvin the Forsaken! Cycle 4 has begun! It will end in about 47 hours, on Saturday 18 April at 9:00 PM EDT. Please be mindful of your activity. Even if you are submitting orders, I enforce the inactivity filter from posts in-thread. As I did not make you all aware of this, I will not be killing anybody for it this cycle, but next cycle is a different matter. So please keep posting. Good luck! Mid-Range Game 41 / Anonymous Game 8: Lord of Chaos
Fifth Scholar replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The sun was shining on the plain, Shining with all his might. He did his very best to make The grasses smooth and bright— And this was odd, because it was The middle of the night. The moon was shining sulkily, Because she thought the sun Had got no business to be there After the day was done— “It’s very rude of him,” she said, “To come and spoil the fun.” The grass was long as long could be, The dirt was dry as dry. You could not see Myrddraal, because The Dark One’d been defied; No raken flying overhead— There were no scouts to fly. The Weasel and the Arsonist Were walking close at hand; They wept like anything to see Such quantities of Rand; “If he were only cleared away,” They said, “it would be grand!” “If seven legions of Trollocs Attacked him for a year, Do you suppose,” the Weasel said, “That they his head could shear?” “I doubt it,” said the Arsonist, And shed a bitter tear. “O players, come PM with us!” The Weasel did beseech. “A pleasant walk, a pleasant talk Within each other’s reach: We cannot do with more than one To send a note to each.” The eldest Chosen looked at him, But ne’er a word he said. The eldest Chosen winked his eye, And shook a darkened head— Meaning to say that he did choose To plot and kill instead. But four Forsaken hurried up, All eager to converse: Their coats were brushed, their faces washed, Their speeches well-rehearsed— And this was odd, because, you know, They knew no shred of verse. Four more Forsaken followed them, And yet another four, And thick and fast they came at last, And more, and more, and more— All pacing through the grassy fields And thinking of the Bore. The Weasel and the Arsonist Walked on a league or so, And then they rested on a mound Conveniently low; And all the others seething stood And waited in a row. “The Time has come,” the Weasel said, “To talk of many things: Of weaves—and roles—and secret rules— Of balefire—and kings— And why the game is raving mad— And whether Fifth can sing.” he can’t “But wait!” the Chosen quickly cried, “Before we have our chat; For that man looks as though he wills To knock you over flat.” “I’d never!” said the Arsonist. They looked unsure at that. “Lews Therin dead,” the Weasel said, “Is what we chiefly need: More information too besides Is very good indeed— Now if you’re ready, Chosen feared, The Great Lord we can heed.” “Mention him not!” the others cried, Turning a little blue. “After yesterday, that would be A dismal thing to do!” “Your fears are wise,” the Weasel said. “But him we never slew. “The Dragon now we must remove, And he has dodged us twice!” The Arsonist said nothing but “Your theory’s rather nice. But I’m afraid you must be killed— And it can’t be done twice!” “It seems unfair,” the Weasel said, “To play me such a trick, After my PMs overflowed, They now will dry up quick!” The Arsonist said nothing but “Your head has grown too thick!” “I’ll miss you all,” the Weasel said, “My ancient PM friends.” Without a tear he stood to meet Sudden, permanent end, When the man a white bar of fire His way would quickly send. “O Chosen!” said the Arsonist, “You had a pleasant run! Shall we be getting on again?” But answer came there none— And this was scarcely odd, because He’d frightened every one. Ivory Dragonfly was lynched! Vote Count: Dragonfly (4): Scorpion, Hyena, Ostrich, Dingo Albatross (3): Mouse, Penguin, Dragonfly Hyena (1): Weasel Indigo Weasel was slain by balefire! He was Aran’gar the Forsaken! Don’t read too far into things. Good luck! Thank you for your nomination, Fura, and the words that went along with it—it does mean a lot, and I’m honoured that you think I’d represent the community well. Unfortunately, as you likely anticipated, I won’t have time to do it this year either; finishing up my senior year whilst running the MR and trying to catch up on other moderation stuff here will likely take up the majority of my time I can reasonably devote to SE. If it wasn’t so late in the process, I’d nominate more people who in my opinion also deserve to carry the SE banner, but I don’t want to clutter the field further, and would be more than happy with any of the people currently in contention representing us. Good luck to whomever is sent to the wolves. Edit: El would like to inform you that nominations are now closed.- 636 replies

Mid-Range Game 41 / Anonymous Game 8: Lord of Chaos
Fifth Scholar replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Callor knew he was in trouble the moment the group of people surrounding him raised their hands, not in greeting, but in gestures. Fire sprang from the fingertips of one of the hooded women, and he tumbled, barely dodging the witch’s blast of foul power. The Light was with him still, he hoped. The flames abruptly sizzled out in the air, only to be replaced by invisible flows of air and quakings of the earth which Callor could feel in his very bones, hissing back and forth across the plain. The assembled group seemed to pay him no more mind as a pitched battle began, so he crawled towards his horse, letting the din of conflict around him subside as he got farther away from the rough ring which had formed. His beast was well trained, standing in place, if uneasily, as the mostly unseen war was waged nearby. He crept slowly off the ground, then mounted as speedily as he could once his head came above the tall grasses. Checking his horse swiftly, he spurred it away from the group of channellers who still seemed determined to tear each other to pieces. Not needing much encouragement, it bolted, carrying Callor closer with each stride to the Lord Captain Commander of the Children of the Light. He would be very interested to hear of this latest development. Inside the circle, saidin and saidar thrummed, and a figure concealed at its edge savoured the flow of the weaves as they whizzed past him. It had been a while, truly, since a battle this large in scope had been fought, and only a mind which could recall eternity remembered the last which had happened—even greater than this conflict, though that had resulted in his long imprisonment. No, but this conflict could not be allowed to reach such proportions, at least not yet. They were all too ill-informed, and the outcome would be just as likely ruinous for him as it would be glorious. Chaos, here, was beyond even his control. He could not let the Pattern assert its will through chance, as it too often liked to do. So the shadowed figure threw back its hood, revealing the horrifying face of a Myrddraal. Instinctively, the channelers drew back, knowing who this was. The weaves came to an abrupt halt, leaving a broken and upturned field cast under the shadow of a clouded sky, over which an eerie silence permeated. The black outline of the Myrddraal shimmered as the shadows passed over its form, giving the Shadowspawn an oddly ephemeral look. “I do not desire immediate slaughter,” he proclaimed generally. “It is perhaps best you talk with your neighbours before killing them. I will not be pleased to see my servants slaughtering each other, and I daresay the Creator would similarly frown upon friendly fire among his allies.” Coarse laughter shook the broken turf, and another wave of shadow later from the clouds, the Myrddraal was lost to sight. “Well,” one of the figures said after a pause. “Where ought we to start?” “I tell you, this fellow decked in the strange blue, he’s a threat to the lot of us! We don’t know if he’s serving the Great Lord or not…” “And yourself? Since when did Friends of the Dark garb themselves in that hideously golden colour? Could be construed as a symbol of the Dragon, that…” Eavesdropping on the conversation between the two heated camps which had developed, one of the figures who had been fighting earlier yawned. It was boring work, this discussion that the Myrddraal has demanded of them. It was much easier to attack and try one’s wit and skill in a direct test of strength. Slipping away from the bickering groups, the channeller made his way past several smaller clusters of discussion, eventually coming face-to-face with the black speck he had seen in the distance, now facing him six feet away. The Myrddraal, whose look was fear, and it was certainly felt; however, a hot desire for rebellion flamed unaccountably. He had not come to talk to this monster and simply back down. Shaidar Haran seemed to raise an eyebrow, peering down at the figure. “You should rejoin the others.” “I am not taking orders from a Shadowspawn.” A thin smile, if it could be called that, entered the Myrddraal’s face. “You may suit yourself, I am sure. But do not be surprised when—” He never finished the sentence. Fire leapt from the other’s fingertips, charring the creature’s black robes and causing Shaidar Haran to writhe in pain. Almost as quickly as they appeared they were gone, smothered as if by an enormous blanket, and a tremendous shockwave emanated from the Myrddraal. The channeller was thrown back hundreds of feet, landing with a crash on a mound of earth raised by the earlier battle. But the form of the Shadowspawn looked to be empty, a pile of black robes lying on the ground, and when the others drew near they saw that the body of the Myrddraal was indeed vanished. Yet nobody dared celebrate. The voice of Shaidar Haran seemed to echo one last time about the plain: This will not be forgotten. Groaning from cracked ribs, the one who had cast fire at the Dark One himself could only agree as a hollowness began welling up from his chest, and he vomited onto the trampled grasses at his feet. Azure Mouse was lynched! Vote Count: Mouse (4): Vulture, Swan, Weasel, Dragonfly Vulture (2): Mouse, Falcon Swan (1): Tuatara Dragonfly (1): Scorpion Mauve Crocodile was driven away! I’m starting to run out of these nice cards. I will note that the Balefire condition is an absolute, to partially answer one of your questions; if a game-ending win condition were to be reached on the same turn that the Balefire condition was triggered, the Pattern unravels anyway. Your accomplishments are meaningless if there’s no world left.- 235 replies

There’s no writeup because you guys have no clue what’s going on. You’re currently standing in a field with poor Callor deciding what to do with each other. Cycle 1 has begun! It will end in about 47.5 hours on Sunday 12 April at 9 PM EDT. The following rules are now public: - If more than three players individually use Balefire weaves three or more times, the Pattern unravels and everybody loses. - A lynch does exist. What it does remains to be seen. - Any player may, at any time, use their action to do one of the following: double their vote, create a one-on-one PM, compliment their GM. - PMs cannot be created except by the above effect. Good luck! Player List: 1. Amber Vulture 2. Amethyst Scorpion 3. Azure Mouse 4. Charcoal Hyena 5. Chartreuse Penguin 6. Coral Swan 7. Cream Tuatara 8. Emerald Falcon 9. Fuchsia Ostrich 10. Callor, Child of the Light and personal retainer to the Lord Captain Commander, Pedron Niall, stepped into the open plain. Or, at least, what was now an open plain. What the scene of carnage around him had been before was all but impossible to determine. It was those Aes Sedai witches, he knew, and not all female ones too; the eyewitness reports of the scouts which had been sent back did not deny the presence of male channelers, even under the shadow of the Hand of the Light. A truly frightening prospect, yet one he would have to stomach. The Children would need to redouble their vigilance against the witches and other Darkfriends, if the world had any chance of surviving these troubling times. Of course, few rulers saw the wisdom of this course of action, and those who did—mostly in Amadicia and Arad Doman—did so in fear of Niall’s armies instead of true belief. True belief would come later, he presumed, when they realised the vast scope of the threats against them. But for now, Callor was in the dark about what the future or even the past held. And judging from the expressions of the men and women who were slowly ringing him, they did not either. But such explanation as could be given, would. Welcome to MR41: Lord of Chaos! The rules should be fairly simple to explain, as it’s blackout, so just a few basic guidelines: - This MR runs on a single 48-hour cycle. Most players have one action a turn. - The setting is Wheel of Time. Most players will be channelers. The specific site is the nation of Amadicia in a location which was recently utterly destroyed by unknown forces. - A few other rules will be released C1, including those guiding PM usage. - The game needs exactly 14 players to run, and is anonymous. You may sign up either in this thread, or via a PM to myself and my co-GM @StrikerEZ entitled “MR41 Signup Request: [Your Name Here].” Please refer to the anonymous account rules, which govern your usage of the accounts and are replicated below for your reference. (I’m going to be a bit more lax about Rule #3, but the others remain in full force.) Given the restricted player counts, there will be a strictly enforced two-cycle inactivity filter. If you sign up, please participate. Anonymous Accounts There are a number of rules associated with the use of an Anonymous Account. Please follow them carefully. Given the potential for abuse of Anonymous Accounts, any rule breaking using the accounts will be dealt with harshly. 1) Do not change the password of the anonymous account you are issued. The IM and the GMs will have access to all anonymous accounts for the duration of the game being played. 2) Do not use the anonymous accounts to PM any non-anonymous account, other than the accounts of the GMs or the IM. Please do not use your normal accounts to PM anonymous accounts. 3) Do not tell any other player or individual associated with SE, whether you are playing or not playing the Anonymous Game. Player identities will be revealed after the game, not on the death of their avatar. Players must not reveal their own identity after their death, until the end of the game, including in the dead/spec doc. Part of the attraction of anonymous games is keeping identities obscured, and we'd like to eliminate any chance of information becoming known that undermines the integrity of the anonymity. 4) Do not change anything cosmetic about the accounts, including their member title, username, signature, and avatar. 5) Anonymous accounts have been restricted from posting outside the Roleplaying subforum, but must not be used to post in any thread other than the thread of the game they are currently being used in. If you would rather not play, you are welcome to publicly or privately request a spec doc. Signups will close in a week’s time on Thursday 9 April at 9 PM EDT. If we get enough players before this, the game will still start on schedule, but signups will remain open so anyone who still wants to play can join as a pinch-hitter. Good luck! I will keep a running count of the number of players signed up here: 14 (updated 07:17 Tuesday 7 April) Quicklinks:

Not liking either the Elkanah or Sart wagons from my skim of each, Coda, as the pivot away from him was altogether too sudden for my tastes. Also Kynedath. Also also, I’ll explain all this and respond to people pinging me at Night when I can more fully process all this.
