  1. You are beautiful people. I don't think I can add very much to what they've said but yes stories are so so powerful. And if the Cosmere is what keeps you going at this point then that is something so incredible and by no means weird.
  2. This band were freaking brilliant! Love their first album, been jamming it a lot lately.
  3. In New Zealand where I live, one of the highest causes of death, which has nothing to do with disease or road accidents (though depression as a mental illness surely comes into it) is suicide. Still it's hardly ever talked about which is insane. EDIT: I think there is something missing in our modern societies a sense of community perhaps.
  4. The pain will never fade.
  5. Also Skyward wasn't mentioned at all this time around, do you think it could have been combined with Dark One seeing as that wasn't Cosmere before but now is?
  6. Wow thank you for your thoughtful response! This does sound really engaging, Hallandren also seems more sexually liberated in some ways too. EDIT: Sorry about the double post. In regards to Word of Brandon does anyone know the best place to find all of that? I've been gone from the forums for a little bit longer than I meant to haha.
  7. Well tragic theory is essentially theories about what makes something a tragedy. Touches on very broad concepts about suffering, death, meaning of life and stuff like that. Used Nietzsche a lot the last time I talked about. But in regards to the tragedy in Brandon's books I think one great example is Elend having to let go of all his ideals to save the world. I may do just that!
  8. Yes this is something else I hadn't thought about! But I haven't actually given any particular ideas that much thought yet haha. Just was like... I can spend a year of study writing about the Cosmere YAAAAAAY! Hmm I'm sure I could mention Kant and his ideas of duty too in contrast.
  9. Haha this is actually a joke that never crossed my mind before. Hmm I could perhaps talk about theology on Roshar and what makes a deity a deity? That could be quite a rewarding line of investigation. But yes gender politics on Roshar are very interesting the whole feminine and masculine arts.
  10. Okay, well I'll be starting my Honour's Dissertation for English next year and I've been thinking about doing something on Sanderson's magnificent Cosmere, however I need to keep my research area a bit more focused than the entirety of the Cosmere. To give you an idea I have a friend who wrote his dissertation on race politics in Mistborn and another who is going to be looking at magic systems in Elantris and how they interact with the world. I'm quite interested in tragic theory, gender politics and history. But any ideas would be of much help! So yeah if you were in my shoes what would you focus on? Thanks heaps in advance =) Edit: also the dissertation in this case is a 10,000 word research essay.
  11. To the munchiest of Koloss Head Munching Days! Happy Birthday Brandon don't accidentally write another book when you blow out those candles now will you =)
  12. I'm pretty excited about these developments! Be good to see Wax and Wayne again haha. But yes the idea for Dark One does sound interesting, something I could easily get into and well it being Cosmere doesn't hurt haha. White Sand graphic novel is still pretty much set for 2015 right? It seemed ambiguous from the update.
  13. I am exactly the same when it comes to this thread haha
  14. Rest in peace, Robin Williams. You will be missed.
  15. I'm in my last year of an undergraduate course for a Bachelor of Arts Majoring in English and History. Plan to go on to do Masters in Creative Writing next year hopefully.
  16. There is also "the Eleventh Metal" which is short story set in the world of Mistborn. Released first in the Mistborn RPG. Available here now.
  17. Raoden 8 Vin 11 Wax 10 Kaladin 10 Shallan 10 Sarene 2 Vasher 12 Hoid 5 Nightblood 8 Galladon 10 Demoux 7 Leras 15 Tanavast 5 Cultivation 10 Skai 6 Aona 10 Endowment 8 Edit: Ruin would love this game as the net outcome is always a negative. Well aside from the fact Ati is waaaay gone haha.
  18. Raoden 7 Vin 11 Wax 10 Kaladin 10 Shallan 10 Sarene 8 Vasher 10 Hoid 6 Nightblood 15 Galladon 10 Demoux 6 Leras 13 Rayse 8 Tanavast 7 Cultivation 10 Skai 8 Aona 10 Endowment 8
  19. I do this all the time when watching it haha. Maslany is insane.
  20. Raoden 8 Vin 11 Wax 10 Kaladin 9 Shallan 10 Shai 7 Sarene 8 Vasher 10 Hoid 10 Nightblood 12 Galladon 10 Demoux 6 Leras 10 Rayse 8 Tanavast 9 Cultivation 10 Dominion 9 Devotion 10 Endowment 12 Bavadin 8 EDIT: Nightblood would have been 14 in the post above.
  21. I would second reading the Fire of Heaven trilogy. It isn't the best but i thoroughly enjoyed it when I did read it. Written by a lecturer at my university whose main love is map making so a quite large portion of the books is travelling around but it stays engaging. And is definitely clean.
  22. I also back the Shai idea. She's the best. And I think we have confirmation we'll see her again relatively soon.
  23. Monster Blood Tattoo is highly recommended though it starts off feeling very junior fiction it develops quite incredibly I recommend them wholeheartedly. No sex at all. Maybe some allusions to sex but yeah. As clean as it gets really. When it comes to violence however it can be quite full on in ways. Nothing ever over the top though.
  24. Well I have a gigantic crush on Cosima but I won't let that colour my choice, I think my favourite would have to be Sarah just because of her character growth really.
  25. She really does start out as this sort of anti-hero type character, but as the series goes on this changes significantly. But I've always reckoned that if you don't like the first episode then the rest aren't going to do it for you, even though it starts off quite differently to how it is going to continue on. If Orphan Black is anything it is thought provoking and weird Of course in regards to the rather questionable morality of Felix and Sarah, I wonder what it would have been like if it started from another of the less abrasive character's journey's... Edit: Tatiana Maslany's performance for Orphan Black is pretty incredible. She is one of the best actresses on tv today actually on any screen.
