  1. Rekaerb cloned himself a couple times in case anyone needed a quick way out and sat back to watch the world end.
  2. "You left her behind," said Rekaerb drily. "We should," agreed Rekaerb. "But do be careful- the Void around this world is filled with withergeists. Direct transport will put you right through the thick of them."
  3. The light washes over the plant, burning it away into nothing. Where it once was, a hole in space now resides.
  4. Rekaerb let out a long sigh. "That's not going to work, I'm afraid... the corruption runs too deep for that."
  5. Even as some grew back, however, many withered and shrunk even further, black marks on a lush landscape.
  6. Rekaerb looks around at the charred and withered landscape. He sighs. "You know..." he says ruefully, "if you were going to destroy everything, you might as well have let the withergeists have this world."
  7. Stunned and burned by the powerful light, the withergeists fled through the hole provided for them. Rekaerb watched with interest, a little sadly.
  8. Rekaerb shrugged, a slight smile twitching the corners of his mouth. "You might say 'Thank you'," he offered. "That's standard where you come from, right?"
  9. "Relax," said Rekaerb. "They don't need another fighter." "They're gone," called Rekaerb. "I evacuated them." Rekaerb raised an eyebrow. "Where did you read that?" "Hello," said Rekaerb, waving. "Welcome to the epic battle between light and darkness! Or, at least, a battle. Not yet sure how definite it will be."
  10. "I'd advise letting her sleep, for now." said Rekaerb. "She's... been through a bit."
  11. Rekaerb shrugged. "Pretty much. They're not alive- not really... so they can't really die."
  12. "You'd think, huh?" said Rekaerb ruefully. "But it's like I said- only the weakest get destroyed by light. These ones... well, you probably took away about ten percent of their power. That's something, right?"
  13. The smell of dead, burnt grass wafts up from the location of the strikes. Small bursts of black and silver mist drift through the air, the remnants of destroyed enemies. But even as Fadran stops to take a breather, the first of the targets are pulling themselves back together. They join in twos or threes, joining their power to form larger and more powerful spirits. And still more pour onto the battlefield. The pair vanished back to the alley where the others had left Abigail.
  14. Narrator X remarks offhandedly that omnipotence is overrated. The withergeists floated towards the small group... ...then turned away, repulsed by the light. The grass around the heroes' feet remained green and lush, just as it had been when they arrived. The same could not be said for the rest of the garden, however. With no light to stop them, the rapidly growing horde of withergeists destroyed anything they touched.
  15. The withergeists began drifting aimlessly around the area, leaving swaths of dead grass in their wake. More, bigger ones began to pop into existence. One brushed Rekaerb, causing his flesh to wither and turn black. He didn't seem to care, keeping his eyes on the incoming waves of dark spirits.
  16. Rekaerb shrugged as the first few of the eerie black ghosts began to pop into existence. "Light," he said. "Pretty much the only thing that works against the blighted things."
  17. "Originally they came from the Witherlord," said Rekaerb. "But these particular ones come from the one that fed on the treasure that Fadran unearthed." Rekaerb shrugged. "Don't say I didn't warn you." A clone of Rekaerb popped into existence and offered her a hand.
  18. Rekaerb shrugged. In a flash of blue light he teleported across the clearing to sit back on a convenient outcropping. "I mean, I would run," he said. "That is, if I were worried about my own safety." He gestured towards Nath's strike. "Don't let that fool you. Withergeists are weakened by light for the most part, but only the very weakest get destroyed by it. And you've just attracted a lot more than their weakest."
  19. They all got turned into French potatoes instead.
