  1. Abigail sighed, leaning back against one of the gray stone walls. "I feel fine," she said. "I'm not hurt or anything. But..." she shivered. "Something happened. I don't - exactly recall what." @AonEne "That's what we'd all like to know," said Rekaerb. @The_Truthwatcher @Vapor
  2. The knowledge of the truth caused the poor wizard's mind to implode.
  3. X remarked that that rather depended on where they had reappared. Abigail screwed up her eyes. "A space between two buildings?" she said uncertainly.
  4. Assassination being "natural causes" for a wizard.
  5. "Where... where I am?" she says in a whisper, putting her hand to her head. Grace glances over. Are you in need of assistance?
  6. A groan came from Abigail's direction as she regained consciousness. Rekaerb glanced over. "You alright?" he asked. @AonEne
  7. Grace shrugged. He was always trying to escape. .We intend to put him back where he came from, said Grace briskly. The Nightmare Tree has been repaired, so if we can get him in there, he should be secure. Narrator X suggested reading from page 408. Grace gave him a look. That information is confidential, she said evenly.
  8. The prison is called the Nightmare Tree. It takes control of the senses of any who inhabit it in order to keep them imprisoned.
  9. His son tricked him, said Grace simply. He has a bit of a blind spot when it comes to family. He escaped when part of the prison that was holding him got destroyed. It works on a mental level for the most part, so it wasn't to hard for him to escape when it went offline.
  10. We cut him off from the majority of his power when we shut him up. All the withergeists he controlled were scattered, and most were destroyed. We had recent resurgence in population, but most of those got destroyed too. He'll be looking for new withergeists to take control of. But even weakened as he is, he's not powerless. He's naturally immune to most damage, and he can travel between worlds without needing to rely on a vessel or portal. He's incredibly charismatic when he wants to be. Still, he's far weaker than he will be if he manages to bond a withergeist. So try and capture him before that happens. We are, indeed, rather overwhelmed, agreed Grace. We've only managed to clear the most empty worlds, those with little to no inhabitants at all. We have a few teams searching the ones we think he's most likely to have fled to, but we haven't had much luck yet. At least we know he can't have escaped into the Void Between just yet- he'd need a withergeist to do that.
  11. We have a rough idea, said Grace, clicking her pen again to change the holograph to a map of the worlds, a mess of glowing dots and lines looking like a spider's web drawn in three dimensions. One of the dots was flashing a bright red, along with several of the dots connected to it. This is where he escaped from, Grace said, gesturing to the red dot in the center. By now he could have made it to any of the connected worlds. We've already checked several of them and found no trace- yet.
  12. Well, as far as threats go, they're not too dangerous on their own. Powerful, certainly, and hard to get rid of- but mindless. Easily tricked, evaded, or even controlled. She made a flicking motion with her pen to project a holographic image of one into the air. It's that last one - control - that poses the real danger. There are people out there who have the ability and knowledge and desire to use the withergeists to further their personal goals. She clicked something on the pen and the image shifted into a picture of a rather nondescript-looking man with black hair, black eyes, and pale skin. This man is one of them, she said quietly. He's used the withergeists as a weapon before- tried to conquer the entire sector with them. We only just managed to stop him by sealing him up. And now he is free again.
  13. Monsters and humans. One human in particular. I believe you've had dealings with the recent infestation of withergeists?
  14. Grace blinked at the terminology, but continued. Yes, I suppose you could put it that way.
  15. Narrator X remarked passively that he wasn't exactly sure what was meant by that. Grace continued. Recently the two realities reunified - after a fashion. It was triggered by our leader, Narrator Master of Silence, for Fate knows what reason. But the wheres and whys don't particularly matter- the important thing is how it was done. To put it simply, some things got broken. Including, unfortunately, our high-security holding facility for dangerous enemies.
  16. The Longest Thread is a Narrative Thread similar to this one, explained Grace. It's more chaotic by nature- yet, some Narrators banded together to create order in the form of a story. There was conflict, and they were persuaded to split off into their own thread, a decision represented in-world by a division of reality. She paused, in case anyone had questions.
