  1. That had been motivation in part for the murder.
  2. "You're going to have to give me a better explanation than that," said Jeffery. "Exactly why is her power 'unfathomable' when compared to any other dream artist?"
  3. Jared felt the entity retreat, its Silence deepening. He briefly considered following up his attack with a finishing blow, but decided against it. No reason, if she wasn't going to threaten him further. His fight was with Winter, after all. Winter had vanished only a moment ago- it was simplicity itself to find him once more. Jared cleverly modified his spatial location to be right behind Winter, his blade through the creature's body. @KyL "Forgive me for interrupting," interjected Jeffery. "But I must say, I am slightly skeptical. Through her aid alone? I mean... dream artists are rare, but they aren't that rare." @Nathrangking
  4. Grace was staring through the window into the map room when she heard footsteps behind her. She sighed. "What is is, Dad?" she said without turning around. The footsteps stopped a few feet behind her. "Something's bothering you," said Samuel simply. "I want to help." Grace made a noise of disbelief. "How? Do you have some kind of magical McGuffin that will round up the Fallen King and all his followers?" "The Fallen King? Is that what they're calling him now?" Samuel hmmed in an intrigued tone. "Well, whatever he's called, I don't have a way to magically get rid of him. Sorry." He took a half-step closer. "But look on the bright side! There haven't been any attacks yet. Perhaps he will be happy with what he has, this time." Grace snorted openly. "A false hope," she spat. "This is the calm before the storm, that's all." She stood up, her back still to her father. "And when the storm comes... I doubt any of us will survive." Samuel was quiet for a moment. "I don't think it'll get that bad," he said. "We've survived his rise before-" "We were destroyed by his rise before!" Grace spun around. "And that was one Witherlord. We still haven't recovered from the recent attack!" Samuel exhaled. "But I'm sure Silence will step in?" he tried. "He's fending off an invasion right now, actually-" "Oh, so he'll suddenly care about this now?" said Grace sarcastically. "He didn't step in last time, remember?" "That doesn't mean he won't this time," said Samuel quietly. "We can still hope." Grace was quiet for a moment. She turned back to look at the worlds map, a web of blinking lights connected by shimmering lines. Hope is for fools, she said. She was still staring straight ahead as the footsteps reluctantly retreated.
  5. Jared closed his eyes and felt. At first touch, there was nothing behind him but slightly scorched air and rubble. Strange. Even an illusion would have some semblance of existence. A quick check verfied that it wasn't a sensory illusion. So... if it wasn't in his mind, but he couldn't detect it in reality, that left only one possibility. Silence, he thought. Or a semblance of it, at least. Jared opened his eyes. So Winter was using trying to use Silence against him, was he? Very well. He hadn't spent all that time dueling his brothers for nothing, after all. It was time to do something dangerous. As calmly as he could manage, he drew the power of Silence into himself. Light warped around him as his colors inverted, wisps of stygian crimson rising from his eyes. With the extra power flowing through him, he could see with ease his 'attacker'. Not Winter, surprisingly- something that appeared as a young girl. Whatever it was, it used Silence in a way he'd never seen before- variable existence, somehow? Nice try, he said as the color in his blade deepened and darkened. With a blurring motion, he caught the girl by the arm in a supernaturally powerful grip. Whatever it was, it would pretty simple to get rid of- the entity was already half nonexistent. Obviously Winter wasn't a powerful enough Narrator to even create a proper character. Carefully but with resolve he began to pour Silence into her, counteracting the threads of reality that Winter was supplying one by one. "An alliance?" said Jeffery nervously. "Does that include the mimes?" @Nathrangking
  6. Jared calmly reinforced his Silent armor, then flicked his blade back towards his ear to catch whatever-it-was. He's using reality warping to move, he thought to himself. Interesting, but not particularly surprising. Nothing he couldn't deal with, either.
  7. Jared planted a foot down and spun around. His blade traced a red line as it spun around, ending in a jagged streak as he launched a red pulse of Silence at Winter's new location.
  8. Jared narrowed his eyes. Time's up, he said. Then he streaked towards Winter in a blur, blade crackling with death.
  9. "Last chance," said Jared, eyes hardening. "I can pry information out of your dead soul if circumstances necessitate. One."
  10. "I'll give you three seconds to tell me what you've done to my sister," said Jared, blade outstretched. "Three."
  11. @Channelknight Fadran, @DramaQueen Jared leapt forwards to follow Winter without hesitation, his eyes burning red. Reality warped around him once more as he followed the cursed entity through the layers of dreams. Jared slammed into the ground a moment after Winter's appearance, a halo of red light flaring and dissipating around him. He raised his arm, summoning the power of Silence into his blade of red lightning. Its illumination caused stygian red shadows on his face. In that moment, he looked like a demon come to exact vengeance on the soul of an evildoer. "Oh no," he snarled. "You don't get to leave me behind that easily."
  12. Jared stared into the being's eyes. There was no hint of dishonesty there- no lies or deceptions. A part of him began to doubt. Had the people he'd met been telling the truth? Might they have simply told him what he wanted to hear, in order to get him out of they way? Maybe they'd hidden her from him. But no... he'd have felt her if she was there, he was sure of it. None of them had the power to change. But if she wasn't with them, and she wasn't with Winter... well, either she'd wandered off somewhere else, or she really was dead. Either way, he would be no closer to finding her than he had been since she'd disappeared all those years ago. His resolve began to falter at the thought... losing her again, after getting so close to finding her. No, he said- partly to himself, partly to Winter. That's not true. It can't be. You have to have her. You have to!"
  13. But X's avatar and Melody had moved on by then.
