  1. Anikel whistled. "There are legends of dragonslayers among my culture too. Revered almost as gods, they are. Dragons are rock-hard tough to deal with, no stones about it." Yerik sighed and slowed, giving up on keeping pace with his friends. "Whatever," he panted. "I'll catch up."
  2. Is that because you're bad at them, or because you don't have enough practice with them, or both? Or are you just too good natured for that sort of thing? Is Emma an Insanity Clinic character? Is this character a part of a personal story of yours?
  3. Silver rubbed his forehead. "Am I to understand," he inquired Kris, "that we do not currently have a plan to acquire this cactus?" @Channelknight Fadran
  4. Stories are told about heroes- but every hero needs a good villain to do battle against. Be it a Dark Lord, rival faction, or environmental catastrophe, every protagonist needs to face challenges in order to overcome challenges. In a collaborative storytelling environment (such as the one we have right here on the Shard) someone has to write the villain's side of the story. This thread is a discussion board for your experiences with writing the bad guy. Since the ancient days of 2018 up until the present, I've found myself gravitating towards the role of antagonist in the stories I've helped to create. And so I pose a question to everyone: who else likewise gravitates towards writing villains? If you do, why? If you don't, why not? What have your experiences been like writing villains/interacting with villains?
  5. Yerik gasped as he caught up to them, breathing heavily. "Wait. Hey. Slow down!" "Not this armor," replied Anikel. "Unless you count my gauntlet. With a whole suit of Echo I could do a lot more."
  6. "Never heard of it," Anikel replied. "But almost certainly." All well and good, but don't forget that the Queen sees what her soldiers see.
  7. "Maybe," Anikel replied seriously. "I hope so." "The forging of metals," Anikel explained. "Like my armor- lighter than anything, and tougher to boot."
  8. "The magic of my people is intimately tied to this ore, and others like it. In the past, it was found only on our old homeland."
  9. Just don't get caught. Anikel shrugged. "It just... doesn't exist anymore. No one can remember it."
  10. Uh... don't actually steal things, if you can help it, suggested the voice. I don't think the Queen would take kindly to that...
  11. More and more black goo poured out of Obsidian as he attempted to completely engulf the monster.
  12. Black goop reached out of Obsidian's face and started infiltrating the wood.
  13. Obsidian scowled and plunged towards the monster again. "I will eat you!"
  14. The tendrils infiltrated the substance of the monster, attempting to wrest control away from the slime being.
  15. Anikel shrugged. "Something beyond the power of mortals. The name of the island was taken away, and no one who has visited there has returned." He paused. "At least, not sane."
  16. You are officially servants, not prisoners. You can take it up with Mariel if you feel you are not being sufficiently contained.
  17. It just isn't, okay? That won't be necessary, said the voice, switching topics deftly. The kitchen is just behind the throne room. She rattled off a string of directions.
  18. It's not safe, insisted the voice. Yerik jumped up and pushed open the door. "Oh! Uh, sure."
