  1. And what?!? There's something missing here. This, with Shallan refusing to admit or confront something a few chapters ago, AND this little beauty: All makes me believe that Shallan is indeed in that downward spiral Brandon warned us about. I admit that for the first 3 books, I despised Shallan's character. BUT! I read Oathbringer again and I started to like her. Then I reread Way of Kings, purposefully thinking of what was going to happen to her. Then I reread all of her flashbacks from Words of Radiance. I can now say that I am genuinely concerned for her. This chapter only made me feel worse.
  2. My wife recently said that she'd be willing to listen to me summarize the first 3 books before RoW comes out. Currently in Part 4 of WoR. Unfortunately it's taking me forever and I'm losing her interest because I constantly have to backtrack and say, "Oh, wait, I forgot to tell you about this OTHER thing that happened earlier in the book..."
  3. True, I also found that a little odd when I read the chapter this morning, but while listening to WoK this afternoon, I got to a part where Sigzil tells Kaladin that he tried to kill someone once and failed. Maybe Sigzil has his own issues with protecting others that outweigh his inclinations towards being a Truthwatcher.
  4. Immensely relieved that Sigzil did not die. He's one of my favorite Bridge Four members. I wonder if Shallan and Radiant can sense Veil's intentions... If not, then I foresee a catastrophic power struggle happening when Veil makes her move, the 3 personalities clashing together, fighting each other for dominance, with Ialai making her escape in the process.
  5. @book.spren If that last one happens, I will scream. I won't even care where I am or who is around. (Phone wouldn't do the quote the way I wanted to)
  6. Cord has been to Aimia?!? Oh and Dalinar can just whip open a perpendicularity. Glad to know that Taln and Ash are helping them (but then again, it was Jasnah who interviewed them... While I hope she didn't have to resort to it, I can see her using "enhanced interrogation" techniques)
  7. At the bottom of the email, there should be something that says, "View full message" or something similar. Click that.
  8. Just reading the title of this topic gave me shivers. I honestly thought we had gotten to the source of Shallan's troubles, but it makes sense that something had to have happened in her early childhood fo her to attract Pattern and swear a few Ideals. I can see there being something else beneath the surface that I hope she faces in this book. I'm going to reread her flashbacks with this theory in mind; maybe something will pop out.
  9. I suspect that Gavilar will be the Prologue Character for Book 5, but then I thought what if it isn't? What other cool POVs could we see? If not Gavilar, then it would be really cool to get Nale's story on that night. Or, since Shalash was there too, maybe hers. Third candidate for me would be Jezrien, but since he's crazy.... Maybe not.
  10. Maybe Moash provided a description of them that was then communicated to all the Fused.
  11. I loved Syl teasing Kaladin and Syl and Hesina gossiping about him to his face. In another thread I mentioned shipping Syladin, but now that my head has been fully immersed in Roshar again, I am backing out of that. They have a great sibling relationship and I'm okay keeping it that way. Shallan's new coping mechanism made me happy.... Well, not happy, but it felt like progress to me. It still made me sad to see that Shallan wasn't fully ready to accept her past. I hope she can make some progress in her healing in this book. I love Dalinar and Navani, especially after having read the prologue. I seriously hope that Navani will open up to Dalinar about her feelings from this chapter, and I hope that Dalinar listen to her. I actually do hope that Brandson Sanderson shows them learning to have those conversations because that's definitely not the Alethi way. Dalinar is breaking those cultural conventions though, so I hope he learns to listen and even encourage Navani to speak her heart. I love Oroden Lirin seems a little more stubborn than I remember him, but I should just reread WoK. I hope he learns to consider Kaladin's point of view for once. He doesn't have to change his own ideals, but I at least want him to give Kaladin a chance to explain his side of the story. I also want them to have the opportunity to talk. It's hard to talk with a war going on. Agreed. It bugged me that Lirin seemed very ungrateful towards Dalinar. Dalinar is awesome and is trying to be a good man.
  12. Ooh! I have my own hot take theory. Interlude spoilers though, so watch out: Anyway, but I am also in the camp that the Dawnshards became the Unmade. Either the Dawnshards were made and then Odium tried to destroy them, but only ended up twisting them. OR!! Odium made the Dawnshards on Ashyn and Honor tried to unmake them to protect Roshar!!
  13. Yes! I think this could be a very real possibility.
  14. I would assume from the end of "Secret History"... My thoughts.
  15. According to this wob: So the spike through his eye I would say is like a staple holding his soul and that body together, hence the Hemalurgy. Once he was back alive, he could then go about much more easily conning people and using his magical "excisors" to create the Bands.
  16. I would be totally down for this. You might be able to include Bondsmith's since you could become a squire to a true Bondsmith. Maybe for Elsecallers you have to complete side quests to advance to the next oath...? Or get so many experience points?
  17. @joesleepsalot I applaud you.
  18. I agree with this. But why stop at reshaping the Nahel bond? Why not reshape someone's Spiritweb, provided you have a TON of Stormlight? I mean, they are called Willshapers. (Unless of course, there is evidence or a WOB I missed that disproves this... In which case I would be sad.)
  19. Current Theories that I think will come true:

The Dawnshards are the Unmade + Cusicesh.

    Syl will become mortal/"human".

Kaladin will NOT swear the 5th Ideal.

Dalinar will become the new Adonalsium.

Theories I think would be cool, but I'm not sold on yet:

Kaladin is a literal descendant of Tanavast.

Taln was abandoned purposefully; the plan to leave one Herald behind was concocted before Taln died.

Kelsier will be a villain in Mistborn Era 3 and/or 4.

Also, Willshapers can use Spiritual Cohesion to rearrange someone's Spiritweb. This would require a ton of Stormlight, but if Soulforging can do it, why not a Willshaper?

  20. After reading her conversation with Dalinar, I'm thinking that this is totally where Syl's and Kaladin's relationship is heading. She wants to understand Kaladin and is willing to go so far as to change her nature to accomplish that. But I'm going to take it one step beyond. I think this conversation is foreshadowing of Syl's eventual transformation into a fully Physical "human" being, forsaking her spren life to become a mortal so she can be with Kaladin. Hmm... I think I ship Syladin now....
  21. Ah, I see. Thanks! I must do research!!!
  22. People on Roshar view things differently. I imagine that this causes intangible phenomena (like fire, wind, and rain) to have enough Cognitive self-awareness that Breath could stick to them with a Command. Obviously this would take a lot of Breaths, but might be possible. The ramifications terrify me, but in a awesomely cool sort of terror! Could this be possible? What could be done to make it more feasible?
  23. I would like to think that if the piano had been played by the same person for a long time, then when Awakened with the "Play music" Command, it would play the same stuff its owner used to play. If it's a brand new piano, then yes, clashing chords. Clashing chords everywhere.
  24. I thought I had after reading this topic: What if the nicrosil in the medallions is really a nicrosil-ettmetal alloy? Here's my thought process: The primer cubes have a switch that controls whether the ettmetal is "waiting for instructions" or if it's performing Allomancy/Feruchemy. So ettmetal is programmable. So maybe ettmetal alloys are also programmable and the nicrosil-ettmetal alloy has Identity-less Investiture and it is somehow programmed to release the Investiture when the other metalmind is tapped. That way the user would not have to consciously tap the nicrosil.
  25. I took it three times and got Edgedancer for all three, with Skybreaker at the bottom for all three. I promise I still obey the law while I'm parkouring all over town healing people....
