  1. @Leyrann ah thanks for the info about tagging. (did that work) And I know it's my theory's a stretch but I guess I still feel like they it could be the reason but yaep it's not so much evidence for it (or either side at the moment one way or another). We just don't know enough about the history of the desolations and what actually happened when human landed and brought odium (or was it the other way round did Odium bring humans to use as fodder in his war against Honour and Cultivation... We're gonna have to wait for a few years to find out more with Book 4 and 5 (if not even longer with 6-10) but still I have suspect unmade have something to do with the heralds one way or another (and slightly more complex than Honour made 10 heralds so odium made the unmade as his versions)
  2. Except the I think the 'first desolation' was actually when Humans arrived on Roshar and attacked the Dawnsingers (or listeners, Parshendi). Well before the humans left worshipping Odium and switched to Honour (and odium corrupting the spren / parshendi). It was after the Humans switched that Honour created the Heralds and they signed up for the oathpact. So the first 'agents of Odium' were the early Humans with no heralds around.
  3. Except I do think that Syl is more 'human' than most spren. It maybe because of how she's been in the series so far but yes I think he needs a human - as I said a huamn Syl would be perfect.
  4. Syladin - after the war they retreat to Shadesmar and live as Princess and Prince-consort of Honorspren... hmmm might be too wierd tbh but we all know if Kaladin found a human version of Syl they would be perfect for each other. Not that I think he needs someone but I would like to see him with someone if only to bring him out of his perpetual brood.
  5. Need the Nightblood book to find out what happens - as I think that book is following Vasher and Vivenne's story after Warbreaker hopefully we will get the answers of how the hell they ended up on Roshar following Nightblood (does he get stolen and transported across first then the others follow to recapture him - maybe Hoid stole him?)
  6. Cookies? lead me to them... I always feel at home in Dark Alleys... I mean Bakerys.
  7. @Leyrann Although in that Q 'n' A he does say that the 99 desolations was made up and there were alot fewer of them... And I know what your saying but I still think I might be on the right track. OB doesn't actually contradict this idea. The heralds were all tortured at the same time - this is why it was quicker for the desolations as time went on to occur - all 10 got tortured for X years. Then they returned and held out for another few hundred years. then another. but with the memories of the previous torture. Then realising that the last herald hadn't broken at all yet (Taln) they wimped out and ran away. Nothing actually implies that there were many desolations only that they happened. No-one has a clue especially as all the info of them was lost in the past 4500 years due to belief of having 'won'.
  8. I agree that it makes a safe presumption to say Eshonai... although I'm not going to put money on it as there could be someone else (and did BS mean the character was already dead by the time he said a dead character or does he mean they will be dead by the time he gets around to writing.
  9. @Leyrann I took the increased speed of the desolations because each herald broke once but quicker which created a desolation. The fact that they happened quicker later was because the heralds broke faster so Humans had more desolations in a single lifetime which lead to harder and harder battles. It could have been thousands of years between the first few attacks - enough for people to progress and remember heralds teachings between the each, but not quite us much as the 4500 year gap until current time. (except that was without the attacks and after the ninth time the heralds lied and said the people had won.) Also this is why at the start of WoK Taln was dead and back in damnation whilst the 9 other heralds split with Jez waiting (and Kalak realises they have all broken - and can't go back - to me this implies only the one break per herald.)
  10. @ Firegazer and SLNC Yes I really don't think Shallan is at all ready to be a mother - she's just not in the right headspace yet. Also unless there is a decent time gap between 3 and 4 (not sure if there is) I think Adolin and Shallan having a child would be the wrong move for all of them considering what they are going to have to be doing against Odium (running around, fighting, plotting - remember the Ghostbloods have charged Shallan to capture Sja-anet (I think). Not conducive to capturing unmade whilst pregnant.
  11. I have a theory that the unmade were actually created when each of the heralds broke (which we now know is what lead to each of the desolations.) So somehow I think in the process of torturing the beshards out of each herald when they broke odium was able to 'flense' part of their soul away and corrupt it into an unmade (with some wierd aspects of said herald soul corrupted powers). As I'm not sure we know whether each unmade was from born / made / created at the same time - just that they are old so this could explain different 'ages' and the different powers. We also know that Taln 'held' through the latest torture but we don't know if there is tenth unmade that has yet to be revealed. The 9 unmade would of course be from the 9 heralds that broke with a potential tenth to be revealed in the future.
  12. Definately some of the best mentioned here. Lift calling Dalinar Tight-butt. actually just Lift. she rocks. - orders? More food... Pretty much anything involving Nightblood ('do you think she'll explain what it means to me' - paraphase)
  13. I think it could also be something along the lines of 'I cannot protect everyone, sometimes I have to let them protect themselves.' And it's Kaladin's desire to protect everyone that means he can't say the words. He needs to learn that he can't save everyone. Thinking of all the people he's failed and his desire not to fail, to protect everyone regardless of whether it's his fault or not and learning to overcome his feelings about failing.
  14. Well quick hello to all everyone. Long time lurker but new joiner. So *expansive Wave to everyone*

  16. Greeting fellow Cosmereian (?) fans. First time poster long time reader and fan of all things Sanderson. Now I have been reading this site for years but never signed in to comment until now because of how I feel about this topic. I will first say I agree with alot of what has been said by others (and in alot more eloquent terms than I could so I won't rehash them.) I am not really a 'shalladin shipper' so I wasn't really surprised by shadolin? but I was dissappointed with how it seems to have been handled so far - although I could say maybe we should wait for the next two books becasue we never know how things are going to turn out with BS. This was mainly because as others have said just how Shallan seems to arbitarily been forced to pick Adolin. I mean I can only really recall one meaningful exchange between Shallan and Kaladin which was on the boat when Shallan misconstrues what Kaladin says (as previously pointed out). This I found annoying because Shallan spends almost all her 'free time' with Adolin getting to 'know' him and rarely spends any with Kaladin to actually see the difference. After the fantastic Chasm scene this to me didn't do anyone any justice at all. Unaturally (storywise) being forced to spend time with Adolin rather than talking to both of them. When combined with the fact that Adolin 'recognises Shallan persona' rather than Veil or Radient as the deciding factor it seems to completely ignore the fact that Kaladin has never treated her differently or thought of her as anything other than Shallan WHICHEVER guise she has been wearing - a much more balanced approach than Adolins teaching Radient how to fight with Shardblade and Veil becoming a drinking partner and him treating all three differently. It feels like a complete diservice to poor old Kaladin (who I do want to find someone like Syl keeps encouraging him to). When Shallan wants to be Shallan, poor old Kaladin has only ever treated her as Shallan (and all three as the same person) and it's Shallan whose been seperating. It makes me worry that she is definately going to have a massive head crash late book 4 when she finally processes the advice good old Hoid gave her (The girl who looked up). Anyways I hope you follow my train of thought, I'm not always the greatest at expressing myself. and I apologise for the length.
