  1. **Forgive misspellings, I listen to audiobooks so I don't know how to spell many of the names correctly. So I'm on my second time through WoA and I just got to the part where Vin and Elend are approaching the Well of Ascension. Anyway, during their escapade the Mist Spirit visits Sazed and directs him to Kredic Shaw to presumably stop Vin from giving up the power. Anyhow, during Sazed's trip, the mist killings start to happen in Luthadel, and Sazed encounters a Ska man who died from it. The Mist Spirit appears in front of Sazed and Sazed asks "Did you do this?" The Mist Spirit replies by shaking its head. Now here's my theory. We know from HoA that the people who got sick from the mists became mistings, and the people who got REALLY sick became atium mistings. What if the people who died would have been mistborn? But because of intervention from Ruin, they died. Where possibly Ruin initially had tried to kill all the people who got sick, but only had enough power to kill the possible mistborn. If I were in Ruin's place I'd definitely want to kill the mistborn, and atium mistings first as they tipped the scales in Preservation's favor more during the final battle. Thoughts?
  2. ...so probably, maybe, yes. Though I agree with LevenThumps – definitely not a main character. Just finished the first book again and I thought this had some significance, but I also sort of debunked it too. Hear me out... Anyway, Kel died from either a slap to the face, OR an obsidian spear. I'd imagine that they'd save the spear that killed the Survivor, kind of like the Spear of Destiny. Essentially it could have been analogous to a spike, with the exception of it not being metal. I just wonder, if Kel's desire to stick around, combined with the spike could end up being something significant. Brandon is VERY good at foreshadowing, and I wouldn't be surprised if he was still foreshadowing even while writing a funny short story death match. Thoughts?
  3. I've always pictured Aaron Eckhart as Kel - definitely can pull off cheery, and vengeful. Plus he fits the description pretty well if I remember correctly.
  4. Whoa! You got a link for that?
  5. I'm an avid rock climber, so joking with my friends we came up with this power: The ability to change the size of rocks at will. I could just go to the local crag, shrink a few classic lines down to the size of a pebble, and enlarge them in my back yard till I got tired of them. I could also turn a bag of sand into the most destructive non-atomic bomb ever created.
  6. Were there any examples of stealing powers without killing the original host? I do like the idea of a black market power industry. Abduct children, snap em, steal powers. Could make a good premise for a book plot or sub plot, especially when Brandon gets to the other trilogies that are to take place in more modern/futuristic times. Haha, I could even see Wax: "I have a certain set of skills... skills that make men like me a nightmare for men like you..." Another thing I've always thought about for hemaleurgy, is the idea behind the points at which spikes are implanted and how it could relate to acupuncture. I always pictured them somewhat as chakra points from Naruto or something similar.
  7. Ah yes, I had forgotten what that looked like. I actually couldn't watch the trailer because I visit here while I'm at work - but now that I'm remembering it, that would be supremely suitable.
  8. I remember the scene where Sazed has the epiphany about Ruin altering texts etc., but I can't remember the part about altering copperminds specifically. Alas, I don't have access to the passage so I'll take your word for it. Either way, I suppose Ruin could simply influence TLR over the years enough to cause him to forget, or perhaps, not consider certain things.
  9. After finishing the book I figured he had to add at least one more - there was just too much left untied. I mean seriously, we need to kill off his stingy wife already so he can hook up with the hot, smart, capable, and innocent college coed that is Marasi.
  10. @dhalagirl: I think they could make a pretty legit conversion to screen as well, provided they have adequate funding. I'm more worried about them forgetting how the powers work, or not utilizing the powers properly. A basic example would be Vin wandering through some dark corridor unable to see because the screenwriters forgot to turn on her tin. Bit I would like to see atium shadows, I imagine it would look something like Mr. Smith from the Matrix when he's dodging bullets. I also hope they cast awesome people, and don't cut out characters. I thought the crew had a ton of personality and I'd hate to see some of the more "minor" ones cut out. Also forgive my ignorance, but would this movie cover all 3 books, or just TFE? If it spans 3 books then it will fail, period. There's just too much there to fit into 2-3 hours. Now, 3 movies and I think there may be enough screen time to cover most of the books.
  11. Well I'm another one of those WOT converts. Jumped on to Mistborn after ToM and found myself enamored by the lore, action, characters and story of the Mistborn universe. After finishing the first trilogy I couldn't help but love how epic Brandon makes his books. He's not afraid to do flashy, over-the-top type antics in his books. (Read: A muscled up talking wolf, or summoning 6ft swords that rip souls out of their victims.) What astounded me the most was the cyclical nature of his writing. EVERYTHING has a place, not a word is wasted, and everything comes back around in the end. The foreshadowing was amazing because it tickled my mind and didn't just spoon feed me. There were many times when I had a "feeling" and I would note "This is going to be important later on, but I don't know how." Then later on finding it coming back, but different and more creatively than I could have imagined. He also builds a good set of rules for his magic systems and I enjoy that he sticks to them. It wasn't until I lurked here that I noticed that the books are in some way related by the shards, which I'm still learning about. That sort of attention to detail is what I admire and find myself continually drawn to. Not to mention, this guy can pump books out like a print factory set on overdrive.
  12. Am I the only one terrified of this movie? I hope they give Brandon plenty of say in it, and I hope they take their time and do it right.
  13. You know, TLR was a feruchemist right?
