This will illustrate more clearly what the plants in this orchard look like. I didn't expect a simple orchard to involve this much inventing and designing, because I didn't take into account that almost everything needs to be invented - even the green, normal grass took a lot of debating back and forth to finally settle on "green is fine". There is a 2nd page with the crops and the lantern and such, but it's not as interesting looking so I'll probably leave it and other boring grey materials on Artstation, buried at the bottom of Orchard's multi-image post.

    Rosharan orchard

@Honorless Gotta take that midnight train to Alethkar~

This is the more boring sheet where I tried out shape languages and demonstrate to non-SA readers how that structure came to be. Believe it or not I wrung my brain for those lumpy shape languages...

I think the orchard got all but 2 sentences talking about it in all 3 Stormlight books. And yet for some reason it stuck in my mind ever since. I am still in the process of figuring out what I would like the Rosharan landscape to look like, and this is my 1st... wait no 2nd attempt at it. I kept it very earth like with all the green grass because 1.) roshar has grass and 2.) my eyes hurt after staring at red or purple meadows over and over for all the scenes. I would like to alienate the landscape more in next attempt
  5. Lol ShawnMC I just finished Reckoner series too and I'm glad I'm not the only one who dislike the main character. It's not that he's awkward or weird, but his other personality trait just seriously doesn't vibe with me. I just keep telling myself this is written as a typical American comic book, hence the generic stereotype (like a xipao with splits or a subservient Indian, etc)

    Crispmelon?

From the album: Natural History of Roshar

This is actually from a while ago when I was planning to concept some fruits of Roshar, but one thing after another, and this just fizzled out. Seeing how I won't be going back to it anymore, I want to put this potential Rosharan plants idea out there - hiding underground to avoid high storms, and emerging only when mature... like peanuts! :D
  7. I have planned to make some villager houses to see how it looks like, it's... it's on the horizon somewhere Recently I've been quite stuck creatively!
  8. Thank you hoid! I am not working full time yet as a concept artist. I'm getting less timid and applying a lot more though! Here's hoping someone will hire me
  9. @Snorkel Thanks! @hoiditthroughthegrapevine Thank you hoid! I can never quite decide whether I'm imagining these art work for a show or a game, because the photo realism of doing artwork for shows kind of bores me, even though I would love to see roshar visualized for a show

    That scene! T_T
  11. From the album: Natural History of Roshar

I remember reading the landscape of roshar is inspired by the tidal pools and coral coasts, which ties into the crustacean-themed native wild life, and the soil-less rock floor landscape. The whole time I've been wanting to give the larger world visual a crack, and I tell you I had no clue where to begin. For me the coral coast is just an explosion of colors that make no sense. I struggled for a long time trying to follow the tidal pool coral reef thing, and eventually reigned it down to these 6 color tests. Truth be told they probably still need to be striped down to just 2 main colors with sprinkles of highlights. Honestly Mr. Sanderson, what were you thinking??
  12. Awesome how you got all those colors working in there
  13. @ILuvHats They don't This is how I imagined their Art Form might look like - if Art Form is even an actual thing and not made up by Venli to keep Eshonai distracted. I gave them 4 arms based off of the function art form would have - which is largely drawn from my own life experience. Usually when I create designs I try to have their form follow their function.
  14. Thank you for the links! I will definitely now look into Dragonsteel too
  15. @Emi Draw for the love of it, like Shallan, if that's what you enjoy doing. If not, the same Shallan also said something along the lines of everybody's good at something, while being bad at something else. There's simply too many things to do on Roshar for any one person!
  16. @R J Which series is Sho Del from? That term is new to me...
  17. @Karnage Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying the art

Meet Arkto! Arc-too This is how I imagine the Listener Art Form. So far we have seen a boat ton of War Form, and I thought, that’s boring. They don’t do much beyond smash and break. The Art(isan) Form, now that’s more fun, because they can do a lot more stuff! But what do they look like, if not in full carapace armor of War Form? I don’t want them to look like human. That make no sense for a species that evolved on another, crustacean-based planet! But the more I add non-human parts, the more they look animalistic instead of civilized. Wait! I know! 4 arms! I often wish I have 4 arms when making stuff - extra arm to catch my-I-mean-their easel and painting from flying off in gale-force gusts, to stop that furnace door from swinging back onto their elbow while carefully keeping the molten glass spinning, to hold up that sun-brella so their brain stops boiling while sketching outside during mid-day, and to sand and chisel simultaneously for instant look at how things are turning out... etc... so many possibilities... For a world that is so wet and stormy, I figure most of their art would be water resistant like stone sculpture, oil paint, and since they aren’t short on crem, ceramics. You know what Art Form would play on a piano if they have 4 arms? Woogie Boogie. And of course they wear skyeel leather as part of their clothing. I don’t see chull shells make comfortable anything other than Klompen :P
  19. That is a beautiful spread!
  20. @Emi Thank you Emi! I'm flattered
  21. Thanks Merlin! Real glad it is cute for not just me XD

Can't believe how long it's been since I last got around to fleshing out my basket full of axehound sketches! I guess it's just one of the side effects of struggling with tar pit of depression, plans getting shelved for longer than intended. Anyway, this is another design for axehound where I really push for cuteness and pet-me vibe while still keeping the carapaces.
  23. Hey RJ, thank you! Sorry I haven't been around much so saw your message super late. I will see what I can do about the Santhids
