Reading Time Dancers, second book of the Meq by Steve Cash. Started reading the series based off of recommendations from here. I have to say that I am really enjoying it.

If I said A Song of Ice and Fire would anyone hate me? Do I have any supporters out there?
Anyone?
Anyone?
Bueller?

haha, JB actually wrote the CA on a dare to prove he could write a good story with stupid ideas, he was dared to use one stupid idea, he chose two - the Lost Roman Legion and Pokemon.
That actually makes sense when it is put that way. Still, I thought it was a pretty good story. As said, not as good as Harry Dresden stories, but enough for me to want to add them to my library.
Of course not any sillier than the challenge of the "food or wine based fantasy" that is the series Vineart War by Laura-Anne Gilman. It is an interesting concept, and the first book Flesh and Fire starts of promising. Curious to see how the author uses this unique magic system.

Was out and saw Curse of the Mistwraith by Janny Wurts, and realized that I never finished reading her series Wars of Light and Shadow. I can remember reading the first book and think it was pretty good with an interesting premise, but that the books that followed were pretty dull and long-winded.
Have any of you books or series like that, where they start pretty strong but by the end you just have no desire to keep going?

I have high hopes for this title. Black Prism had some great potential, but kind of puttered out at the end. Hopefully things will move faster in this book.

My first foray into fantasy was with the classic series of The Dark is Rising Sequence (from which I chose my name) and The Chronicles of Prydain. Truly excellent books that started my life-long love affair with fantasy. I've been greatly disappointed that my nephews seem to have no desire to read them, even after I bought both series for them.
Also have fond memories of reading the The Dragonriders of Pern, Dragonlance Chronicles, and the Dragonbards trilogy many moons ago. I could add o many more, but I will leave that for another time.

Perhaps on the car should be inscribed the words:
Hoid was here...
That made me snort/chuckle.
Cool plate. I would suggest it to my wife, but she would just give me that LOOK and roll her eyes.

Decided to pick up Theft of Swords by Michael J. Sullivan. Not a bad read so far. It is your standard fair of fantasy, but I find the characters enjoyable.

I've been in a slump recently trying to find something new. Any new book recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Which is impressive given the fact that we're pasty nerd-folk that have never seen the inside of a gym.
Pasty nerd-folk reporting for duty! Which is sad because I used to be quite tan once upon a time. Then I got old and into reading and got drained of my color. Bummer.
Welcome, by the way Nihilum, from one former luker to another.

The Wheel of Time is a VERY long series with MANY characters in it. It is easy to get lost. If you're dedicated to the series, you can look at wot.wikia.com and look up who the characters are if you forget.
So true. I've given up on reading WoT until Memory of Light comes out. Then I will go back and read everything again. Hopefully things will make more sense then.

Alcatraz. Everyone else is secondary.
Amen and amen.

After Stormlight 2, he'll do an Alloy sequel. He plotted three (maybe four) books with Wax and Wayne.
Awesome! I loved Wax and Wayne, and thought Alloy of Law was much too short! There is something to be said about gunsligers with magic!

Just thought that I would intoduce myself to you all. I've been a fan of Mr. Sanderson since I found heard he was to take over for Robert Jordan, and got hooked on Elantris. Ther rest is history, as they say.
I am big Alcatraz Smedry fan, and thought Way of Kings was by far the best book of 2010, if not one of the best I have ever read. It has been a while since I have actively participated in an author's forum, and look forward to spending time with you all.
Love the wiki, by the way. Helped to pull in pieces that I have missed along the way.

I'm looking forward to learning more about Teft personally. Just what is his family's relationship with the Knights Radiants?
Also, I forsee fireworks when Shallan and Kaladin finally meet up. I look forward to much laughter in reading their dialogue.

I was definately a Robert Jordan fan first, just because he was around first. Then I kind of loss interest in him after Path of Daggers. I saw Elantris, but didn't pick it up until I head that Brandon had been tapped to finish WoT. Now I have to admit that I am a much bigger Sanderson fan that I ever was of Jordan. His stories are much better and more varied than Jordan. Have to admit I am kind of bummed that he is finishing WoT, because I would much rather he work on Stormlight archives or another Mistborn.

If figured this group of prolific readers was the to ask this question. I work at a library and we are working on creating a reader's advisory resource of High Fantasy. What are your recommendations, bot well-known and not so well-known?
