One suggestion I thought of is make the loss of the Chromium minds end up being a good thing! E.g. Some group hired a hitman to take out this hero but was told to make sure they get the right guy and to identify him by his recognizable Chromium metalminds. Then, when the hitman shows up, woops, no metalminds means the hitman is confused about who to kill and it ends up giving the hero time to deal with the situation. Or, perhaps instead of using them as a way to identify the target, the hitman needs to bring in the chromium metalminds to prove the kill and when the hitman finds out the metalminds are missing, ends up "helping" the hero look for them, shenanigans ensue, etc.

Or not haha. I'm no author but I thought it might make sense if losing the metalminds ended up being "lucky" for the hero.

    That would be... ironic!

    Might work though.

Coincidences/good fortune often happen to people without chromiuminds just as well as those with them.

That may just be a good idea, though I think it would kind of be a Morton's Fork, because if he had them, he'd have so much luck that the hitman might just suffer a convenient heart attack or the gun would misfire or he'd just plain miss anyways, but I like this idea.

    Thanks.

  2. Okay, so I'm working on this fanfic-ish thingy (I hesitate to call it a fanfic, no major characters are directly involved) set in the roughs, and the protagonist is a lawman/reformed petty criminal. He's also a chromium compounder, which is awesome, but also leaves me with a problem: how do I challenge him without pulling out all of the stops and making him fight a storming shard? Sure, I plan on having him lose his chromiumminds, but how would I even manage to do that realistically? He's a rusting god of good luck! I know for a fact that it's possible, nothing is impossible, but it's probably going to be very hard...

    Any ideas?

See, I don't get this. Wrath and Hatred are righteous in the right circumstances. It is GOOD to hate murder and rape, it is GOOD to want to destroy evil, therefore Odium could be a good thing/entity, if only his methods weren't so dang evil.

    Odium + Honor?

Compounds Aluminum: Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me!

Compounds Copper: I remember everything so vividly! It's amazing! It's so... and, it's gone.

Compounds Iron: "Hey, Timmy! You see that huge crater over there? That used to be Elendel! That's when your Uncle, the Iron Compounder, commit suicide!"

Compounds Bendalloy: I can't see my feet! Where are my feet?! Ugh, storing this up again is going to take forever.

Compounds Cadmium: I'm Aquaman! OR "Mommy? Can I be a fish when I grow up?" "Sure you can, sweetheart!"

    Point

  5. Okay, I have several, but here's my first:

An adamantine koloss sword with a hilt made of dragon horn and wrapped in black leather, with beads of atium instead of gemstones at the pommel. I'd awaken it with the command "kill lots of evil things and be totally awesome doing it". (The one-upmanship of Nightblood ensues).

I would just mention it to them, see if you can get them interested. As far as spoilers, I don't think there'd be too many, (though I've never played it myself). Probably mostly world building aspects, such as how many metals there are and their affects, the ability's of Kandra, etc.

Yeah, I think part of it is that I already have a MAG group, so they might think they'd be redundant, but I haven't explained much more than the basics to them anyways, so maybe I can try to coax them...

As for spoilers, it's actually a bit of a problem. My MAG group are all familiar with Mistborn (though two haven't heard of the Cosmere and one hasn't read second age yet), so we feel free to engage in wholesale canon mutilation, but it often comes with spoiler-laden scenes. Kelsier's death is the hardest to avoid.

    Thanks.

    1. My dad bought Mistborn as an audiobook on audible.com when I was 11 or 12. I listened to it. We both agreed it was awesome, so he got a whole bunch of other books by Brandon. They were awesome.
    2. They're awesome. Especially Mistborn, Stormlight, and Reckoners.
    3. Mistborn, Stormlight, Reckoners. Also, I really liked the Emperor's Soul and Alcatraz.
    4. I'd say 7-8
    5. 10. Definitely 10.
    6. Any way to get my Pathfinder/D&D group to read Mistborn so we can play the Mistborn Adventure Game? If not, any ideas on how to play a MAG session without too many major spoilers?
  7. Hello and welcome to the 17th shard! I am also glad to be on a site with a community as crazy about the Cosmere as I am, and I'll think you'll fit right in.

Tell me, have you read Mistborn, Elantris, Warbreaker, or any others or just Stormlight?

  8. Ok, so, for those of you who are unaware, nicrosil stores investiture. This is a poorly understood branch of feruchemy, and at first may seem about as useless as allomantic cadmium. However, it allows you to do some really weird stuff.

    So here's my theory:

If a nicrosil ferring (or full feruchemist) were to become a surgebinder, they could use the stored up investiture in place of stormlight.

Of course it might not be nearly enough (this is a very distinct possibility), which could be remedied by A: Storing up huge amounts of investiture, or B: Being a Nicrosil compounder (just get a bit o' the old nicrosil-lerasium alloy).

It might also not work that way/not be the right type of investiture (which I very much doubt).

However, if it did work, imagine the potential! Surgebinder-Nicroferrings could go anywhere in the Cosmere!

Tell me if you think this theory is possible, and, if it is, what you'd do if you were a surgebinder (choose an order)/nicrosil compounder.
