  1. What part of the book does Hoid go in the shard pool? I don't remember this and would like to re-read it.
  2. I agree that it can be a little boring reading shallan's chapters but I do like her character. Re reading the books has made me appreciate Shallan a lot more because I knew what to expect (not as fast pace) and she really does have a lot to offer to the story. She does make rash and bad decisions in TWoK but you can see her character development through all of it. By the end of WoR she becomes a very interesting and key character to the story. Also, without her, Kaladin would still be a huge turd with the chip on his shoulder and might not have said the third oath. The respect he gained for her in the chasm helped make him a better person and personally I think it helped humbled him enough to really consider saving Elhokar.
  3. Thats good to know and I guess it makes sense since it is using a type of investiture.
  4. For hoid healing himself we have this WOB. To me this suggest that it is not gold because it seems like gold only heals the physical body but I don't know if there is a WOB on that. It seems like he is using something similar to regrowth and we can assume regrowth does this since Mr. T suggest that Kaladin healed his arm with one of the regrowth honorblades and Sezth believed him.
  5. Brandon has said that spren can travel. So I assume that an oathgate on another world would be possible. My only concern would be if the spren manifest differently on other worlds. Since spren and seon are very similar but a seon bonding, as far as we know, does not give any power, then there might be complications. This could also just be a difference in which shards they were created from or seons never bonding with the intent of giving abilities.
  6. Like Spoolofwhool said, the blades are different and we do not know who switched them out. Also, as Spoolofwhool hinted, we don't know if this is really Taln. Brandon refers to him as the man called Taln so that seems like it is not really Taln. Related info that is a spoiler for his Alcatraz books.
  7. Just remember that the key to happiness in life is managing your expectations.
  8. I just looked over that part of the books and I don't think it says specifically if Rock was in the storm or not. It say the storm hit and men were thrown into the chasms and crushed by large rocks but Rock was with Shallan and could have been in the building the entire time. Since there was a hole cut in the building and the Everstorm was there, strom spren could have entered the room. It seems like this would have been mentioned by Shallan if they had but there was a lot going on. Also, Rock could have stepped outside looking for the other members of bridge four but we don't know about that either. So at this point I would say that we don't have proof either way if Rock was in or out of the storm but I'm leaning towards out of the storm.
  9. Thats what I would guess. As far as horn eaters go, it seems like Rock might have more of a connection to his parshendi ancestry since he can see spren like they can. If the ever storm did not affect him then I would guess (and hope) that it will not affect the rest of the horn eaters.
  10. That makes a lot more sense. Thanks for the quick response.
  11. From what I remember, he was born able to see spren. When he swam in the lake he saw a person with white hair and Sigzil found it very interesting.
  12. I am currently re reading WOR and just read the part where the bridge collapses over the chasm and Kaladin falls. The question I have (sorry if this has been asked before) is why did Syl "die" at this point? I know that Kaladin had made two contradicting promises and Syl had been fading prior to this event but it seems weird to me that she "died" when he tried to save others. It seems like his actions should have helped stabilize her a little instead of pushing her over the edge. The thought that I had was that since she had told him to do what he felt was right/he needed to do and his feelings went against his oaths, this act just drove a larger wedge between them. I still am not sure if I buy my own thought on this so what do you guys think?
  13. "Oh, storms yes! Everybody, give the Lopen your shperes! I have glowing that needs to be done." The only problem with this one is that it means no more one armed Herdazian jokes.
  14. How was the third ideal about leading? I thought it was something like I will protect even those I do not like hate. Or is it that the first one, life before death, is not included in the four ideals and this one is counted as the second ideal?
  15. I was thinking about this and had the thought that it might deal with protecting someone bad/evil if in that situation they need help and it is the right thing to do. Something like protecting a murderer from the victim's family member who is trying to kill them so that the murderer can stand trial. I'm not sure how this would be worded but it seems like a possibility. What do you think?
  16. That makes a lot more sense now, thanks for the info. I'll have to pay better attention to what pattern says from now on.
  17. I'm sure this has been brought up before but when I did a search, I did not find an exact answer so sorry in advance for what is most likely an annoying re-post. Also, since this is my first post, I am not sure if this needs to be listed as a possible spoiler but I did not want to ruin (because i'm not Ati) it for anyone. What are your thoughts on this?
