I saw that for Oathbringer, but what makes you think it is the same for the other two books?
-
So Brandon has said each book in the Stormlight Archive can be considered a “trilogy” in its own right. But that led me to wonder. Where does the division between each “book” in each trilogy take place? After all if I was going by what the internal contents if each book said it was broken into there are FIVE parts in each book NOT three. So I can’t use that for a reference. I guess what I am asking is, is there a WOB on where the trilogy divides for each book is?

Anyone else want to see the two of them trade wry social commentary? I keep thinking back to Steris’ comment in the first book about how it’s not who you invite, but who you DON’T invite. And that people even go out of the way to invite some outright degenerates to say, we’d still rather be around them with you. And all I can think is that if Wayne and Steris got along better Wayne’s response to that would be. ”Seems like an awful lot of trouble just to insult somebody?” And Steris would probably agree. I’d love to see something along those lines from them in the next book. That being said I don’t mind if they continue to have some good natured bickering as well. To continue the earlier example, would each probably pick the other as their choice for degenarate. But still all in all you have too charcters who are full of wry social observations and commentary and you haven’t matched them up against each other yet? These interactions are begging to happen.

[OB] - The Cosmeric implications of Oathbringer's ending
animalia replied to rdog2213's topic in Stormlight Archive
Because it's capitalized and we try to twing into hints intor how BRandon works by now. It's true that this could all be a MASSIVE red herring, and/or we're all barking up the wrong tree, but in the end of the worst that we'll ocme of it is that we've engaged in some harmless speculation. At least that's the worst that we'll come of it for me. Unlike everyone else I'm seldom disappointed when Brandon zigs when I expect him to zag.* I'm the kind of person who likes to speculate where the ride will go, but ultimately doesn't mind if the ride takes me in a completely different direction than what I was expecting. *Maybe I'm wrong but I kind of get the feeling that others in the fandom aren't the same way.- 69 replies

Also I bet once Steris realizes the kind of pain Wayne is in she is quite likely to empathize with him. She might even apologize for not even noticing it before. In fact the more that I think about it they are both two of the more caring and empathetic characters. Just in very different ways. I guess what I am saying is hope they eventually form their own odd friendship. Just like Wax and Wayne did.

[OB] - The Cosmeric implications of Oathbringer's ending

I just had a thought related to the supershard theory. If the supershard is UNITY then said shard COULD by it’s nature have the potential to UNITE with MORE shards in the future. Thus said shard could be the key to the reforging of Adnolsium when Mistborn Era 4 comes out.- 69 replies

If what you say is true then I REALLY look forward to their interactions in the future. Like I said they BOTH have wry observations on society, and I think Wayne would like exchanging observations with her once he is in a mood to appreciate them. Heck I think they might even find agreement on how stupid we can be as a society sometimes.
-
I was rereading one of the scenes where Wayne gets into a disguise, and how as he did it he tried to start thinking like the other person. It struck me that learning about this could be a good way for Steris to bond with him. As someone with Asperger’s Syndrome since we never know what other people are thinking our default mode is to imagine how it would feel like if we were treated like other people. In a way you could say it’s similar to what Wayne does when he tries on accents. It’s a method of trying to connect. (It’s not 100% perfect obviously) Speaking of I think that’s one of the problems she has with Wayne is that he acts so erratically it’s hard to put herself in his place. We get to see into his head so we have a good insight into what makes him tick, but Steris doesn’t. Ironically I wouldn’t be surprised if the two of them get along fairly well once they find that connecting point. When you stop to think about it, they both have wry observations on society. Wayne’s are just cloaked in colorful metaphors that only make sense once you get to know him. And while some of us (people with Asperger’s) have trouble with Asperger’s Syndrome have trouble with metaphors and wordplay, NOT ALL of us do. In fact for many of us our sense of humor is based around wordplay. I believe that Steris is one of those. She has been demonstrated to use sarcasm, “Like that wouldn’t be embarrassing!” And even responded to one of Wayne’s quips in kind. Wayne, “Hello, crazy!” Steris, “Hello, stupid!” So yeah I think once the ice gets broken that they would get along.

Warbreaker movie casting (dream list) *spoilers*
animalia replied to BreathTaker's topic in Warbreaker
It's easy to forget this because he has the emotional maturity of a child at times. In any case the God King is so naive, and sheltered, you can't really make the typical argument or an older man taking advantage of a younger less experienced woman. Ironically, if anything is the case Siri would be taking advantage of him snce she is the once who has to teach him what sex is. (I don't think she took advantage of him I am just pointing out the irony)- 99 replies

But what form would the food come in? Would it be as raw undigested food, as calories, or something in between? It's kind of unclear. Hence why I want to ask for a WOB.

Or if there becomes a NEW metalic art based on Harmoninum I could see that as well. But as for a way that combines finances and allomancy how about tracking ways money could be moved around in order to aquire large supplies of metal. EVERYTHING PAST THIS POINT IS ME RAMBLING On another note I am not surprised that Wayne comes close to getting Steris to snap, she does seem to have genuinely fallen in love with Wax and Wayne kept trying to get her to call of her relationship which WOULD push her buttons. On the other hand this is tempered by the fact that she is aware of what Wayne is trying to do and this helps her real it in somewhat. To share a personal story I also have OCD and certain trigger words in the past would often cause me to lick my glasses. Bully’s would love to get a rise out of me by calling out the trigger words in a crowded hallway (where I couldn’t see who did it, and therefore didn’t know who to blame) and make me lick. Eventually I felt I would NOT give them the satisfaction of knowing they got a rise out of me so I managed to hold down my OCD reaction until I was in the bathroom and they couldn’t see it. And with time having to deal with the bulling made the extent ti which the trigger words bother me go down. I still don’t like to mention them. But I can here it a time of two in casual conversation and be ok. And this was with my actual OCD triggers (unlike my ADD I am pretty sure this was not a misdiagnosis but something I had in addition to the Asperger’s Syndrome given the compulsive licking I have) So with an actual normal provocation that hits the buttons I can easily see the anger being tempored somewhat by the knowledge that it is being done deliberately done with the attempt to get a rise out of someone. Of course that could easily be me just pasting my own experiences in her place again. Which is also a common thing for people with Asperger’s Syndrome. And one thing I have learned is that while “treat others like you would want to be treated” is a great place to start, it doesn’t work 100% of the time because not everyone wants to be treated exactly like how you want to be treated. That being said, it’s still better to hold to it as your baseline and adjust as need be, then to try and disregard it all together.

Anyways I have derailed my own thread long enough. Back to the finance?

Thanks for the replies. Of course not knowing how snapping works now it is also possible she is just ill suited to whatever is done to make people snap. Not that suddenly developing a skill you haven’t practiced in would be of much practical use but it would be interesting to see how Snapping works now. I like to speculate. I don’t think it’s very likely but if snapping is now more emotionally based than physical, that COULD potentially explain things, the closest we’ve seen Steris come to getting angry is when Wayne antagonized her. I could get into my personal experiences as someone with Asperger’s but I think for the purpose of this discussion it might be best to quote something I heard said by Tony Atwood, one of the pioneers on autism and Asperger’s. He described it as a “buffer against negative emotions” and that when those emotions come they aren’t in between. They’re like a volcano that explodes. * The point I am wondering is this (unlikely though it is, it’s fun to speculate) could that same barrier against negative emotion also provide a MINOR resistance against emotional allomancy, that combined with most people with Asperger’s not always being provoked by the same kind of stuff that prokokes most people (or so I’ve heard, A description I read about people on the Syndrome that hits close to home for me is, provoke them intentionally and you’ll rarely get the reaction you’ll expect, but many of them have well hidden berserk buttons that can be unintentionally set off.) could be the kind of stuff that gives off a false negative. At the same time I realize that this is MOST LIKELY my wishful thinking. Regardless of wether or not she could learn allomancy, I would to see someone trigger whatever potential berserk button Steris may have (I hope she has one) simply for what we can learn about her that way. *That is something I can relate to. I have often described my anger as like a Summer Storm it comes quickly when triggered but doesn’t last to long. I wouldn’t be mad at the end of the day, but my parents when I fought with them would still be upset the next day.

Something I’ve wondered is if it would be possible for a combination Pewter Misting Bendalloy Ferring to draw on their calorie reserves for quick bursts of strength and speed, as a way to enhance their pewter allomancy. Maybe this could be one of the possible reasonances between different types of powers Brandon Sanderson mentioned? If anyone goes to a con he’s at maybe they can ask him for me.

I was just thinking that we know (or at least it has been implied)that Steris has spent a fair bit of time dealing with financial “mysteries” as she puts it. And given that at least half of what the set deals with is related to finance she could play a key role there. There is one more thing that she MAY be helpful, but this is WAY more speculative and could MUCH more easily amount to nothing. We have a line in book 1 where Marasai says that she is “quite sure” Steris doesn’t have Allomancy. But we don’t know why she doesn’t know. It’s possible that when she was younger before she tested by however “snapping” works nowadays, Steris reaserched a lot about the metalic arts and the different possible ways they could interact with each other, before moving on when it was realized she had no potential. IF this is true, again a big if, that’s another possible way for her to help solve the mystery.

My personal pick to play Lightsong would be James Roday. Any if you who ever watched the TV show Psych probably know why. His performance as Shawn Spencer demonstrates to me that he can has what it takes to capture the mix of irreverence and seriousness (not to mention compassion) that makes Lightsong work as a character.- 99 replies

Basically who would you want to play characters from any and/or of Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere works and why? Sky’s the limit as to your options. Just try to explain why you think they would perform the role well. I’ll start us off. My personal pick to play Lightsong would be James Roday. Any if you who ever watched the TV show Psych probably know why. His performance as Shawn Spencer demonstrates to me that he can has what it takes to capture the mix of irreverence and seriousness (not to mention compassion) that makes Lightsong work as a character.

Can anyone tell me where A House Of Ashes takes place in in-universe chronology. I got the feel that it takes place between The Eleventh Metal and Mistborn proper but it was hard to be sure and it was possible that some of the stories segues into Mistborn proper rather than taking place all before hand. Complicating matters is the fact that (I believe I am not certain) this was Brandon Sanderson letting other authors play in the Mistborn sandbox a little, at least in terms of making short stories, so we can only tell where in the chronology these stories take place by using context clues.

As someone with Asperger’s I can say that putting yourself in the other person position and thinking what would you do in it is a big part of it. I don’t think there’s anything unlogical about it. I think IF Jasnah does have Asperger’s there’s meaning in the fact that Renarin nodded to her before she stopped, it’s her thinking “if I was in his place I might want to die do.” Her refusing to kill him his BOTH her empathizing with him as well as showing her growth relating to her talk with Hoid. If she’s been wrong about the hods maybe she’s wrong here. It’s certainly worth taking a chance on. Sure there’s hope, but it’s a REALISTIC hope. And I’d even argue a logical one depending on how you look at it. After all some people look at the history books and only see the things that never change and see it as a source of cynicism, I perfer to see the things that HAVE changed, however slowly and look at it as a source of hope. It’s all a matter of perspective. But both are conclusions that you can get to logically. Does this make sense?
