Hello everyone, I've been writing for a long time now and I tried to write things both in my native language and in English as well.. When I write in my native language, and then when I edit what I have written, I really don't like what I've written. Some parts I want to re-write, some parts I really want to throw away, some parts do not event click with the rest. When I write in English, though I didn't acquire the language, I seem to find words that better suit the mood and the need of the writing. (I'm teaching English at a university) Somehow, I think writing in English produces more effective results for my writing. Lately, I've been thinking to focus on a work; got a couple of good ideas that I may concentrate than the rest; and if I want to get it published, I wouldn't know what to do because getting a work in English in my country is pretty useless. No one would know about it or would even want to buy it. I have close-to-non-existent knowledge about how things work in other countries. I wanted to make a post maybe someone can give me some advice on to what to do. Hope this is a right place to do so. D.

Only Mistborn Era 2? I'd easily say he has become my favourite character. I really like the others for different reasons but Wayne is standing out among other because of his wit. I'm sure after Bands of Mourning, that must be true for most people. If not, I'll eat Wayne's hat..

I liked Elantris but, I need help liking it more
Mierinx replied to Xero stormz's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I totally agree with that. Especially whatever happens with the magic system and Hoid scenes, I think some certain things get a new perspective from the reader. The magic system in itself is worth pondering upon as well. No matter the depth of the story, Elantris is still one of a kind Cosmere book. After what you said, I would like to re-re-read the book now -
I liked Elantris but, I need help liking it more
Mierinx replied to Xero stormz's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I'm guessing that, being the first published novel of the 'official' Cosmere, Elantris was just trying to find her voice as Sanderson was trying to find his own at the same time. It's true that we don't know much about the possible connections between the book and the Cosmere, but I think all we have to do at this point is to wait for the next series/novels to come out so we can read about a more solid connection. I also felt something similar like you said you did; but for me the reason was that Elantris was the first book I read of Sanderson. I was trying to find my place in the book when I first read it. That might be another reason as well, no matter how trivial it might sound. For 2021, we wait.. D. -
New novella - Silverlight, First of the Sun or non-Cosmere?
Mierinx replied to Extesian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Considering that he already completed the Apocalypse Guard Book #1, (along with Oathbreaker before that), he may need a "break" to clear his mind and get the novella thing out. Anything that is non-Cosmere seems to be on its way in my opinion. So he can focus on the more complicated things in the future.. On the other side, whatever the dude writes, we'll probably read and expect more and more to come after that is also finished -
You've come to the correct place then .. I'm new here myself, and the dudes here are awesome Welcome home x

I don't think there is a balance... I write mostly poems and there is no way for me to pick up the pen (yes, I use pen and paper) and "let's see what my heart and brain will tell me to write.." You just need to find out what time of the day suits you... I once read about a writer who used to wake up at 5, went fishing for an hour or two, came back for a shower and breakfast, and then started writing till noon. I tried to do something similar on a free day; but didnt work out. But what worked out is that I did my daily job (teaching) during the day; prepared dinner in the evening; stared at the wall for a period of time (10-20 mins) doing nothing, just to clear my mind. Then that emptiness gave me the inspiration I needed in the "late evening" and "into the night..." I generally wake up early so I didn't keep writing or producing things until it was dawn time but it worked out quite fine for a while.. Finally, it is just up to you and your schedule to find out what is the best routine for you. Hope you get productive . D. PS: Just remembered... I used to set a daily word limit for each day. I wouldn't stop writing until I reach the limit... say a thousand words per day... Setting a limit is always productive in my opinion.

People who doesn't like Brandons books
Mierinx replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in General Brandon Discussion
@Toaster Retribution I saw a post on Sanderson's finishing Jordan's series in Wheel of Time sub-forum... The more I think about what happened in the last three books and what could have happened, the angrier I get and want to kill myself. -
Hey my friend, In my view, Wheel of Time might be the best thing that might ever happen to you.. Think of your favourite, your second favourite, third favourite.. Combine them and you'll get a better mix with Wheel of Time. There is the battle between good and evil. There is a variety of characters, nearly all of whom are dynamic characters. They constantly change and confuse you. The events are real like. There are some parts where the events slow and drag but the utmost experience that you will get at the end of the series. You can read A Song of Ice and Fire but since it is incomplete; you will end up saying "and then what?" Cosmere Cycle will not leave you unsatisfied, either. You can read the others, too, but I think Wheel of Time should be a priority.. D.

People who doesn't like Brandons books
Mierinx replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in General Brandon Discussion
What I'm going to say will be quite different what's discussed here.. I'm a huge fan of Sanderson. I like how he thinks and how novel he is, blending the original with the mundane, if I may say so. I cannot find any single thing that makes me dislike the dude. However! Completely out of his Cosmere works, I really disliked and hated some parts even, what he did with Wheel of Time. In my view, he changed every single thing that is and was Wheel of Time. I read the series more than five times and the last couple of books more than that. I can see Jordan in the books; he's there, his voice and image is there... It's understandable how Sanderson had to put his own voice in there if he were to complete the series; but what he did... I was totally crushed... Nothing that I read after WoT has come to an end has given me the pleasure in the style, the brains, the imagery (yes, lots of laces) etc... Sanderson killed that mood and for that I am angry at God that He has taken Jordan from me before he accomplished to write more sequels and prequels and I dislike Sanderson dearly because of what he did. I think this should be a "offmychest" topic. I don't want to offend anyone who likes Sanderson, I do too, but what I am feeling is something else... D. -
I think that's what we're going to find out for sure... It didnt sound like the Lord Ruler did all those things; helping out a whole nation and hiding the Bands for "someone" to find... It's a Kelsier-like trait in my opinion... I just cannot say it for sure ofc.

I've read all but the Unpublished book and the Calamity series... Devoured the rest... Main character? I don't know for sure.. I'd say Wayne. That guy is a genius with words Thank you

Hmm.. I remember Spook living more than what seemed normal to me at the time but didn't give much thought on it especially considering the curious nature of metal using and Ascending... I'll have to take a closer look at Shadows of Self to find that piece..This is getting more interesting. Much appreciated.

I read that part and thought that such a hint would not be that obvious... I may have to read once more to see whether I missed something.. or we just have to wait for two years to get the final book of the series..

Hello, I've finished Bands of Mourning and then the Secret History. In the PostScripts, Sanderson mentioned that he put some bits here and there to let the reader know that Kelsier's involvement is still going on while the events in the Wax and Wayne novels are taking place. I've read some of parts again but I cannot put my finger on the actual thing. If anyone of you remembers the issue, can you pinpoint it to me? Thx. D.

Hello everyone I've been reading fantasy for more than 15 years now. Last summer, while I was trying to finish Wheel of Time, I met Brandon Sanderson [the way I see things from the forum, many people made such a similar transition.] In the meantime, I've been waiting for the unpublished work to come to my inbox I've read all of the books except Calamity series. I've been following the Writing Excuses podcast, too. I'm an amateur writer, poems mostly, in my own country; and I've been considering moving onto something bigger. I have a project in mind that needs working on. I have to say Sanderson's logic captivates me, how he handles things, how he creates those things.. I hope to find a well-educated community here and to be a part of this forum in time. Be well, everyone. D.
