  1. What is more awesome than a man holding out against unspeakable torture for as long as he did? Torture is not perfect, you can torture someone who did nothing wrong and they will eventually confess to whatever it is they think you want them to know. Taln was a beast, now he is presented as a shell of his former self. For the narrative it doesn't matter as much what he WAS, but what he IS now. If he is going to play much of a role going forward I would say he is super flawed.
  2. I think it is pretty heavily implied that Taln is just a bad mamma jamma. I guess that does not prevent Odium taking his time with him, but the evidence points towards him just enduring.
  3. I would tend to interpret along the lines that Nightblood is seeing these other swords appear and disappear, so he assumes he can do it too. He is essentially a very young naive child who doesn't understand what he can and can't do. It also wouldn't shock me, with how invested he is, that he could make himself do it if he really wanted to.
  4. My interpretation of the wiggle room in that WoB was always in my mind whether it was a biological parent or a I am the one raising you parent. It is possible the people who raised her was a light/dark eyed combo. It is also possible that one of her biological parents was light eyed. There is a lot of room to maneuver within that combo.
  5. The Sibling would be a spren though, albeit a very powerful one.
  6. Another interesting read was the Earthseed series by Octavia E. Butler. Pretty relevant to what is going on today.
  7. Six Wakes by Mur Lafferty. While there is not really a true main character, a couple of the ensemble are.
  8. Is it possible the "compass" is one of the medallions that grants allomantic powers? Possibly bronze if they found a way to use it to detect other investiture rather than just other allomancers?
  9. When he wrote that I assumed he was talking about the "gods" plot with decay and ruin, and then main plot with the people fighting. It came together at the end but was rather disjointed.
  10. To this point there is already a homosexual relationship within Kaladin's crew. Well more specifically involving one of Kaladin's crew and another man. There is a scene where Drehy is going to propose to another man. Kaladin finds the idea initially to be feminine, but the other guys talk about how wanting to be with another man is the most masculine thing you could do. Not saying this precludes Kaladin from also being gay, but it would surprise me that he would write both of them that way from a narrative viewpoint.
  11. This is the part that actually worries me about the relationship he might develop with Odium.....
  12. Duh, I'm stupid. I knew Darro was the brother. My brain automatically processed for me that since he is a cross over character he must have been the main character from the book. I totally ignored the fact that the names didn't match.
  13. I wonder if Darro in Nightblood would be with a weak amber bud. I think that makes his character more interesting, but obviously weaker in context to someone wielding more powerful investiture. Perhaps after having night ripped from him, his bud got stronger by allowing in more investiture. Would be interesting to know.
  14. I would agree with that except, at the end of the book the twins are shown in human form back in they physical realm. That seemed to me like they were humans initially as well. Who knows! We are speculating on things that Brandon has never considered.
  15. I could see The Former being the shard, with the Twins being his "children". Perhaps they are humans bestowed inentionally with a splinter. It would take some changing to make it fit without our current knowledge of how these things work.
  16. Another issue with the Aether could be that if it goes unbound for too long it dies. So perhaps it was usable at some point, but has been without a host too long as well.
  17. Perhaps you could use a soul stamp first and then regrowth might work? Seems like an awful lot of work though.
  18. I would tend to agree with Syldaras here. My thought was something a long the lines that they became so reliant on what Ba-Ado-Mishram was providing when it was ripped away it broke them. My guess/thought was that the parshmen had a significant piece of their spirit web broken or torn out when their connection was broken it prevented them from reclaiming even basic forms.
  19. Fair, when I read it I immediately made the connection based on the previous association of that person. It is possible I completely overlooked that.
  20. Anything on Skycolors is speculation. There is not nearly enough information in the book to have any idea what they are. I think it was only mentioned once and it felt like a very throw away line.
  21. I think there are three things going on here. First a Fused, the soul of a dead parsh, and second a void spren, an evil spren of Odium, and Glys, a corrupted "normal" spren. I don't believe the fused will be able to summon blades, because they are completely taking over and inhabiting the body. This isn't like a bond, it is a complete take over of the person. Not sure what the void spren are going to do, but again it seems as though they have to be inside the Listeners gem heart to provide a form. I would posit that is definitely a weapon btw. Glys is a totally different animal. He formed a nahel bond with a human, so he is not limited by being in a gem heart.
  22. Aether of Night as written is definitely not canon, but it very much so seems he wants to include the magic system. Spoiler for Oathbringer.
  23. I thought it was fairly clear that they first transition into the physical realm and then bond the host. There was the scene where they were trying to bond with Venli, but her little spren slipped in instead claiming her. I got the impression that there were a number of fused spren flying around looking for hosts they liked.
  24. I also took Kaladins use of the wind spren as a bit of precursor to him getting a new version of shard plate. As far as not all radiants getting a shard blade, Dalinar will not be getting a new one. The Stormfather says he will not be summoned whenever he is called, or something along those lines.
  25. Similar theme to a number of books/stories. The first one that jumped out at me was I am Legend. He spends the whole book thinking one thing, but at the end turns out to be the real monster.
