  1. I honestly never thought that this fact would throw you for a loop. But I did choose the word very carefully. There are a couple ways "accident" can be interpreted. For instance, I trip accidentally, which is an action I never wanted to commit but happens too fast for me to stop. There is also the accidental consequences like when in chess I take the rook with my Queen and then suddenly lose my queen to a knight I didn't notice. This is where an intended action had unintended consequences. Finally, there is the surprise discovery. Like the discovery of penicillin where in the quest to accomplish one thing, additional effects are generated almost like and afterthought. Yet another hint at the story underneath...

  3. Well for starters, I'm sure a major export could have been Atium. I mean, the Pits were the place where people would travel on and off world, so smuggling some Atium would probably be easier than most other riches. Plus the fact that it is a God metal would be of interest to many off-worlders, even if they couldn't burn it. Brandon has implied that Atium can do many other things besides what we see it used for in the book. Other than that, Scadrial would have been a great place to sneak slaves away from. Grab some unfortunate souls lost in the pits and sell them on the Black Market in Silverlight. I hope that's not the case but it sure is a possibility. Aluminum might have been a possibility, however, we know that up to the time of the Shattering of the Pits, Aluminum was extremely rare and mostly unknown as a metal. That would make it hard to mine and ship off planet discreetly.

  9. I'm sure most people know this or have already read a post about this, but Vin almost did manage to steal the Lord Ruler's Atium in the first book of the Mistborn series. In fact, she was closer to learning on of the Final Empire's greatest secrets within the first few chapters of FE. But that was before Kelsier swept her away. This is just a small thing, but I find it so ironic how circular the Mistborn Trilogy is. If you recall, Camon's crew was planning a large heist that involved intercepting a shipment of ministry funds that was to be hidden on barges of new obligator acolytes. This was to be a big score, one of the biggest Vin had ever seen up to that time. However, there was far more at stake than anyone realized. In HoA, Sazed learns from the First Generation of Kandra that the Lord Ruler was very careful with the little amounts of Atium that was allowed to leave the Pitts. In order to hide the movements of Ruin's body the Lord ruler snuck the beads of Atium inside the shipments of ministry funds sent into Luthadell on the barges of new obligator acolytes in order to hide the movement from the eyes of the destructive shard. If Camen had stuck to his original plan and had succeeded, they not only would have acquired a large amount of gold, but they would have discovered the Atium being smuggled from the pits into Luthadel. Unfortunately, the result of this would certainly have been the swift and brutal massacre of the skaa who found and attempted to sell this massive treasure. All in all, it's probably best that the plan fell apart before it could happen. But it's ironic how close Vin was to stealing the Atium right from the start. Even more so to think that Marsh traveled on those very barges filled with Atium. The strange reality is that Camon was far better at stealing the Lord Ruler's Atium cache than Kelsier, albeit unintentionally.

  11. Your right that the spike is not Atium-Brass, besides hemalergy works with spikes of specific metals stealing types of powers (Like how steel steals Allomantic Physical powers) So I am wrong about that. However, Brandon has implied that Atium Mistings can burn all the alloys of Atium. This might possibly be how Demoux has been able to leave Scadrial without using a perpendicularity because many theorize that one of the Atium alloys will allow dimensional hopping. If it is true that Atium Mistings can use all these powers, then you could steal this ability from an Atium Misting, who wouldn't even know they had that ability.
  12. Hahaha it's not ruined, just needed to be touched up. Besides, the main point is still valid, I bet that the Atium-Brass alloy does allow allomancers to communicate through hemalergic spikes. I don't know how but Bleeders Spike gave her that ability so it's something to think about.
  13. The Cognitive Realm is one of the best-kept secrets of the Cosmere. Sometimes it almost feels crowded considering how little people know about it. Between the Physical and Spiritual Realms, the thoughts and ideas of intelligent beings take shape in this dimension. Worldhoppers use Perpindicularities to enter this realm physically and take shortcuts to other worlds. It is also the home of the spren of Roshar. In this Letters from the Cosmere Elsric takes a solid look at the Realmatic Theory about the Cognitive Realm and how its rules work for a Worldhopper. Here is this episode's transcript: I wonder if writing two letters back to back for the same person makes me conceded, or desperate. It seems haughty that I would already have something apparently so important to inform you about. Yet I waste your time with frivolous sentences about what I happen to be thinking at any given moment. The fact that I am enjoying the thought of you forcing yourself to read this right now seems to establish the point quite nicely. Well now that we have that out of the way, you must understand that the scholar in me cannot simply let my first letter be whisked away with only a generalized version of “The Cosmere.” I mean the fact that you found me in my little Manor on Nalthis proves that you understand that much about the Cosmere already. But I needed to start somewhere and I cannot help but think that someday someone will be reading these words who has never learned Realmatic Theory before. So, to you my future reader, turn back now before the insatiable curiosity grabs you by the throat and drags you away screaming. It will be easier for you to just move on, living your life. Now that I have your attention, dear reader, and your annoyance dear recipient, I wish to better define the Cognitive Realm and its import on my life. I first discovered a perpendicularity by accident. I had been delving into the secrets my rivals were trying very hard to keep. Let me remind you that a perpendicularity is a location or event where concentrated investiture creates a hole between dimentions. I like to think of them as Shard Pools. Call me simple minded, but they are places where investiture pools together all at once. I have thought long and hard about this. We exist in three (known) levels of existance simultaneously. We are very familure with the physical nature of our existance for it is the one we we are born interacting with directly. We are also existant in the spiritual realm where our essence is at it’s most pure. Somewhere between these two realms exists the Cognitive realm. This realm exists as a smoky mirror of it’s more substantial counterparts. The Cognitive realm reflects the physical realm in general shape, but is maluble and easily changed with investiture, which essentially is energy from the Spiritual Realm. The three realms exist in states that are fundamentally different from each other, despit the fact that they are intertwined. The physical worlds upon which we live are large planets suspended in around suns. We live on globes where if we travel in a strait line for long enough, we will end up right where we started. These spheres are the separated from others like them by vast distances in space. The Cognitive realm follows a different set of ruls. Everything there essentially exists on a 2 dimentional plane. Now it’s not literally two dimentional, for when you visit it will feel similar to the surface of your homeland. If you think of a planet as a globe, then the cognitive realm is like a map of the globe. Essentially they are same in shape, but the Cognitive Version of the world has edges that extend into the beyond. When you move off the cognitive world, you step into a dark zone where little to nothing exists. This essentially is leaving the planet. In fact, all cognitive realms are connected to every other world populated with intelligent beings. Because the landscape is created and maintained by intelligent, cognitive thought, it means that the gaps between worlds is relatively small. This two-dimensional existence and connection between the various worlds is what allows worldhoppers like myself to travel across the void and into other nations and cultures. One of the great secrets of the Cosmere is not just the fact that there are other worlds with people on them, but that there are more than can currently be visited. In my travels, I have passed over worlds with populations that are isolated from the rest of the Cosmere. Worlds where there are no natural perpendicularities. Someday I hope to visit these worlds somehow, perhaps discover how humans came to live there without the intervention of a Shard. I’d even assume that they have no access to investiture, but that would be presumptuous of me. I also need to note something that I forgot last time. Each world looks different in the Cognitive Realm. Now there are consistencies, like how bodies of water tend to be represented as stable landmasses in the Cognitive Realm while typical landmasses are large churning oceans of thought that can be quite deadly to a worldhopper who is not careful. However, each world’s cognitive realm has it’s own flavor. For instance, much of Scadrial’s Cognitive Realm is made up of massive seas of mist, whereas on Roshar the ocean seems to be made up of tiny glass beads. Naturally I will be able to tell you more about the Rosharian landscape and Cognitive Realm once I get there. Now you need to remember that these oceans are not a natural phenomenon like a lake or river. These swirling depths are manifestations of the millions of minds that live in the Physical Realm. All things that have a name, a concept, or dream are manifested as tiny intelligences in the Cognitive Realm. The more personification or sentimental value that people give their objects in their world create larger, and more powerful cognitive minds. It is the use of these cognitive minds that, make living in this Realm possible for these cognitions can often be enlisted to help you, especially when you have investiture to offer. Lastly, I wish to comment on the freaky pale sun that hangs ever present over the Cognitive realm. Here there is no night or day, it’s just constantly a dull grey. The ball of light that you can see is the Spiritual realm. Honestly I’m not sure how that works but the other worldhoppers I have run into have mentioned that fact. Somehow that is what connects us all together. It’s strange, and I am sure I will have more to say on that eventually. I know I come off bitter in these letters, but you must understand my reluctance to getting involved. I don’t think I am any better at sharing information that you and your kind must be. Yet, your master’s proposal was intriguing to say the least. Besides, I owe him for saving my life. Don’t get too comfortable back there, you’ve reawakened the scholar in me. Once I get to Roshar I will locate and use a perpendicularity to return to the Physical realm. I hear it is quite a place to visit, although the rumors coming from that direction do not bode well. Until the next letter, Elsric
  14. @snote I am grateful that for your insights on this issue and trust me, I have considered it several times. To be honest with you though, I doubt I would be adding much to the deep theories of the Cosmere. I mean this post is a perfect example. I worked on this idea for a little over a week doing research and trying to make sure my reasoning was sound. I was proud of this and excited to hear what people thought. And yet the first two posts showed me a glaring mistake in my reasoning and critical references that I had missed. I am far from the level of Cosmere Theorist that others like @Argent are at. Perhaps I will get there, I know I am a lot better than I was a year ago. But I feel that most my theories would be torn down immediately. The other option would be to make videos about the theories published by others, which actually could work... but I would need to work closely with them in order to do so. I will give this some thought, but as it stands I couldn't do something like this on my own. LftC is something that I wanted to make because when I first discovered the Cosmere, I was wishing there was a way for me to learn about the Cosmere without having a ton of things spoiled. It wasn't intended to be something that dived too deep into the topics. You do highlight a potential need for lore theories and I will seriously consider your thoughts. TLDR; I would love to make a deep lore series, but doubt I am well versed enough to do so properly. Perhaps I could with the help of others.
  15. @Staphylococcus Yes you are right, I was not aware that it had been confirmed. I have edited my post for clarification.
  16. Hmm that is compelling and I was not aware of these quotes, however, it still is a valid argument. I pointed out that the spike didn't need to be made of the Atium-Brass alloy, but that the spike was stealing the ability of a Misting/Mistborn who could burn this alloy. I agree that the spike is a different metal completely, but that the ability holds the power of this Atium Alloy.
  17. I think I have figured something out, although this is in no way confirmed. I was re-reading HoA and I was pondering hemalurgic spikes in Kandra. Now we know that Kandra Blessings are two spikes which together grant sentience and a power of some kind. In SoS Bleeder uses unknown methods to not only grant herself Feruchemy speed while only using one spike. However, I always thought it was odd that she also manifested a power we have only seen Ruin and Harmony use up to this point. She takes moments to speak to Wax in his mind. At the time I just kinda went with it, it was an exciting time in the story. However, I realized that this should have sent up several red flags. I mean, not only does she use the metallic arts which we thought was impossible, but then she invades Wax's mind like that. That's not even a power we have observed a mortal being using before! Here is where I will delve into the interviews with Brandon. There was a question about ReLuur, and if one of his spikes is Atium. TLDR: RAFO http://www.theoryland.com/intvsresults.php?kwt='reluur' Now, this is obviously about a different Kandra but we know they know more than they are telling Wax and Wayne at the moment. It seems likely that Atium in some form is still accessible to some Kandra. This is what really holds my theory out. You see, I was contemplating the fact that Brandon has written sayuing that you could make alloys with both Larasium and Atium and produce 16 alloys. We know that the Laraseium alloys make Mistings, and it's been hinted that Atium alloys would have various temporal effects. So here is the long and short of it all: Bleeder's single spike might steal the possible abilites of the Atium-Brass Alloy Now the spike itself might not actually be made of that material since it's hemaleric in nature. But I believe it steals the powers of burning Atium-Zinc or Atium-Brass allomancers. This is a stretch but let me walk you through what we know: 1. Bleeder can somehow talk in the minds of thoses spiked with Hemalergy. 2. Bleeder cannot be using more than one spike while she does this. 3. Bleeder has knowledge of Hemalergy that is far beyond the current understanding of Harmony's people (as far as we know). 4. Bleeder's spike was made of an unknown metallic alloy. Now the power of speaking in minds is a bit of a stretch, but it certainly seems like a possibility of a twisted external mental allomantic ability. It also feels more like a pushing rather than a pulling ability. I mean, that is the most realistic explanation for this strange and invasive ability. *Edit: Thanks to some awesome readers, I have seen references that clarify that Bleeder's spike is made from a metal that Harmony doesn't know. However, this doesn't change the foundation of the theory. Thanks to those who took the time to source the quotes!* As my final point of support in this theory, I will need to delve into Secret History here: So there it is, I have no idea how viable this is, or where exactly the atium came from. It either has reappeared or it was salvaged from an older stash. But I am happy I finally got this out there. It's such a cool concept to think about. I wonder how this could be applied in combat, and if there is a limited range that this communication is restricted to. *Edit: Changed my wording for clarification.

  20. I wonder about this, but do like what you have found. However, consider this. The members of the Diagram talk about how Shallan has been trained as a Radiant and they wonder if this training was at Jassnah's hand or that of her brother. This implies that he was bonded to a spren. I think that Helaran isn't actually dead. Maybe he became a Stormwarden and then gave his blade and plate to another agent who was the one Kaladin killed. The man Kal murdered never had his face revealed and it was the blade that was used to identify him. I think Helaran will appear, maybe at the end of Oathbringer. Oh and this would also absolve Kaladin from murdering Shallan's favorite brother which continues to open the possibility of a relationship starting between them.
