  1. I just read the chapter (Shash 39, I forget the chapter #) in OB where Kaladin takes Dalinar, Navani & company back to the warcamps where Dalinar investigates what happened with the 'madman' Taln. At the beginning of the chapter when they arrive at the war camp, Kaladin lashes them downward so they slowly drift down and they eventually land. It wasn't mentioned in the book, so my quick thought was, did the lashing automatically go away when they touched ground? Or can Kaladin automatically instruct when the lashing will end when he touches them. Otherwise, even though they touch ground, the lashing should still be pulling them that way, almost pushing them against the ground. That could be explained away by saying the lashing wasn't very strong since they drifted slowly and then the stormlight ran out. But then I kept thinking, could Kaladin lash people very strongly downward and smash them against the ground? We've read instances where people are lashed upwards, specifically I'm thinking of when Szeth lashes Roion and Dalinar into the sky so that they are so high when the stormlight expires that they fall to their deaths. But just as Kalidan lashed himself downward so hard in the duel in WoR to break the shardplate (and his legs), he could probably smash people against the ground very hard. Probably just costs more stormlight, which is why we haven't seen it. Just my musings.
  2. So, I may be way off, as I only read OB once so far and am currently rereading it so I'll be sure to pay more attention, but it was my impression that it was actually Odium talking to Dalinar, to unite them for his own twisted plan. I think I thought this when we hear Odium and Amaram talking together, and Odium confirms he had been talking with Dalinar too, not just Amaram. Just my thoughts. I probably got it mixed up but I'll read it more thoroughly this time through.
  3. I voted for King Rock, probably because I'm in part 2 of my Oathbringer reread. There are so many hints at very interesting things about Rock's background and the Horneater Peaks. His chief was killed, sounds like he had two brothers killed, and also that they had access to the other realms on the Peaks. But something is now wrong there. Hmmm.... I have to admit that several options sounded very interesting at the bottom of the list. I am also very interested to learn more about the Ghostbloods, what Rlain has been up to, and also want more about the Heralds. But I assume the Heralds will have more detail in the back 5 books. I'm thinking that's when we will get their POVs during the prior desolations and rebuilding civilization time after time.
  4. Sorry to reply to an old topic, but I just read the passage last night that @digitalbusker quoted and I came to the same conclusion and came looking in the forums to see if it had been discussed: The passage tells of her thinking of killing her parents, and then so worried that Adolin was going to break off the betrothal. But then when she learns Adolin just wants to train her with the Shardblade, it specifically says that Shallan calmed herself. So 'her heart was beating quickly, her skin growing cold, her muscles tense' is something new and I came to the conclusion that she was suppressing her Shardplate.
  5. Not to create a tangent, but as I've been reading this I remembered a question from the book. Do both Listeners and Singers refer to Parshendi? Or was one the parshmen before transformation? This sparked an interesting thought. If Rlain becomes a Bondsmith and a sizable portion of Parshendi are behind him and with the human coalition, how would this effect the Skybreakers? If the 'rightful' rulers of Roshar are on opposite sides, who would they choose to follow?
  6. Also, worldhopper sighted? When Dalinar went to visit the Nightwatcher one of his men was Felt, who was more 'foreign' than Dalinar. Mentioned before in TWOK or WoR as somebody in Dalinar's army, but also the house spy from Mistborn. I'm like 95% sure it's the same person based on his wording with Dalinar. If this has already been mentioned, sorry. Too many pages to go through lol.
  7. That would be Jasnah, as she walked into the room with a crown. Kind of a misdirection since it was a Paloma POV and she was talking up Sebarial a little.
  8. Boy there are a lot of responses to this thread... I got through page 6 and thought I'd better go write my stuff before I forget it. So I liked the book, but maybe because of all the hype, I was just expecting more. I will need to reread it and I hope it grows more on me because it does have a lot of potential. Scenes that I liked: Kaladin returning to Hearthstone; reuniting with parents and meeting his brother. Kaladin stopping the highstorm protecting the human slaves in Revolar Jasnah's return Bridge 4 POVs in Part 2, especially Rock's family reuniting. Annoyed with Teft. Kaladin's illusion as they initially infiltrated Kholinar Storming the palace and subsequent battle/loss of Elhokar Azure was a good character, wish she stayed with the group Szeth POVs. Part 5 was all awesome. Felt dreadful initially because nothing was going there way, then things got brighter. Characters I dislike: Taravangian went even further down the pooper. My least liked character now that Sadeas and Amaram are dead. Moash. Though I guess I still have some hope that he will return to the 'Light side of the force' Nale. I was hoping we were going to see him helping the humans, based on what we saw in Edgedancer and Brandon's comments that he needed this to explain Nale's new perspective in OB. Was not the perspective I was expecting I guess. I was expecting all of the Skybreakers to come help and Thaylenah. So I wonder now what they were sent to do in Marat. Thoughts/Unanswered Questions Who is the Traitor mentioned on the back cover? Seems several could fit this. Moash. Taravangian. Nale. Malata. Even Venli could be considered a traitor to the parshman/Fused. I wish we saw them figure out how to power Urithiru. Was kind of expecting that after they found the gemstone pillar way back in Part 1. My overall impression of the Ghostbloods increased positively. Their intentions seem more altruistic than I originally thought. At least they keep promises. So maybe I just missed this and need to do a reread. (Of course I will, but not right now). What exactly are the Fused? They aren't spren are they? Wit mentions dancing with one in the epilogue centuries earlier. Are they shadows stuck in the Cognitive realm? Or shadows stuck in Damnation? Oh, and also, yes, I was annoyed with all the Shallan personalities as well. That being said, I'm surprised one of her personalities didn't mention being into Jasnah
  9. I finished part 3 and am halfway through part 4, and the question I'm most anxious to find out now is if Drehy and Skar survived or not. If it turns out they didn't make it, I think that might be what would make me the most sad. I'm holding out hope though! Though Elhokar's death was pretty devastating too. Not just the fact that he died, but that his little 3 year old was taken after.
  10. I was reading WoR last night and read the passage where Dalinar visited Kaladin in the prison. During the exchange they talk about Elhokar and the Roshone affair. I don't have the book in front of me so I don't have exact words, but during the conversation Dalinar was explaining why he didn't prevent Elhokar from doing what he did to Moash's grandparents. He was going to tell Kaladin where he was, but then seemed to hesitate as he thought, and then ended up just saying he was 'away.' The hesitation of his response got me thinking of where he could have been. Maybe at the Shattered Plains, as I believe this happened after the war started (if I remember right, Roshone was sent to Hearthstone about 4 years(?) before WoK begins, and the war started about 6 years (?) before), but he wouldn't worry about Kaladin knowing he was at the Shattered Plains. My thought is that he was visiting the Nightwatcher, and was hesistant to tell Kaladin that is where he was since it is sort of taboo. This is the more theory part of my response. Dalinar was still in his warlord form at the beginning at the war as he had accumulated a lot of gem hearts. He could have left during the war to visit the Nightwatcher, and that began his gradual change to the man he is currently. Perhaps his high storm visions started occuring either directly because of his visit, or indirectly because he was turning into a person who would actually head the visions. I guess this thought is more related to the timeline of the Nightwatcher visit rather than the boon/bane side of it. Also, I've resigned myself to just wait and read what happened to shshshsh because right now I feel like everything is just speculation with not much to go on. (Though I guess that's what we love to do anyways
  11. I've been reading TWOK and recently read Axies' interlude. The beggar in this interlude caught my attention. I thought it was interesting some of his dialogue and his "city" of tubers. He was deranged, obviously, but it made me think of the possibility could be a herald - gone mad from years of guilt. Anybody else have thoughts on this?
