Yes! I've got that timeline completely incorporated. It forms the foundation of my timeline, really. I really loved the work done there, and wanted to see how more things fit into the timeline. Unfortunately, that requires making a lot of assumptions here and there. I've done my best to track and note potential error. My goal is to put as many things as I can (within reasonable error) on the timeline, but be clear about how certain the dates are. So you know if a date is exact, a wild guess, or somewhere in between. Dang it Brandon... This is a problem. Thanks for pointing this out, I missed that line. The issue is that there's a scene break prior to the wedding ("in the middle of the night") which says that "several hours" have passed. If the Everstorm passes when the "first moon" is "above" then we're just after sunset. They only have a 20 hour day, so several hours later is sunrise! I guess you just have to assume Dalinar is exaggerating the time elapsed... The other problem with this however is Everstorm timing. I've been trying to track the thing. We know it passed Hearthstone around noon. This gives another pretty accurate time. And unfortunately, it doesn't fit with some other rough time estimates or with the ~8 day time lapse sense it originated. Assuming it moves at a constant speed. Ah well...

If you haven't heard, the Stormlight Archive subreddit is holding a contest in celebration of the release of Oathbringer! In honor of Dalinar's book, the theme of the contest is UNITE THEM! Anyone is welcome to participate, and there are some fantastic prizes up for grabs. There will be two grand prizes. The first, a numbered first edition hardcover of Oathbringer, will be awarded to the entrant who receives the highest popular vote. These books are only available at the release party and are not easy to come by! It will be signed by Brandon and any other members of Team Dragonsteel who are available. The second grand prize is a print of the cover of Oathbringer signed by Brandon and (potentially) Michael Whelan. The winner of this prize will be selected by the subreddit's moderation team. In addition to the grand prizes, there are a number of other prizes available. Four runners up will receive Stormlight Archive pendants, donated by Bedali Jewelry. Lastly, ten honorable mentions will receive small prizes, such as a Syl sticker or a signed bookplate. So how can you win one of these awesome prizes? Participants may submit any type of creative work that they've made for the purposes of the contest. There are two main rules: you have to explain how your creation exemplifies the theme of the contest (Unite them!), and it has to be related to the Stormlight Archive. This could be anything from Bridge 4 fanart, to a video of a dance you've performed, to a Stormlight-themed computer game. Think out of the box! Look for the "submit your entry" thread on October 1st in /r/Stormlight_Archive. Post your creation there along with an explanation of how it exemplifies the contest theme. You'll need a Reddit account if you don't have one, but they're very easy to set up. To see the full rules or ask any questions, see the contest announcement thread. If you're not interested in making an entry, you are still invited to participate! Look for the entry thread the week of October 1st and vote for your favorite entries. Voting ends on October 7th.

Oh, thanks for that quote. I was also working on a spreadsheet to work out how fast the Everstorm is moving, and I couldn't find a good estimate for what time of day the Everstorm originated. This is pretty solid evidence that it happened in the afternoon! That's good too. I don't think we had the epilogue in the existing WoR timeline. I guess we couldn't until we had a better sense of when the Everstorm was coming. I agree with your placement of Edgedancer, now that we have Oathbringer 4-6. The Everstorm hits Urithiru during the day, so it must have hit Yeddaw the night before. Still collecting Oathbringer references in the document above, but my full timeline is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Wdigy6ZNX4EGRAaUskfM0LXNANksyM1JintSn4yKSyM/edit?usp=sharing. WoR is all mostly from the effort of others. I'll be slowly adding Oathbringer stuff along the way. Way of Kings doesn't offer a whole lot of certainty, but I'm trying to fill that in as best I can.

What are some of your favorite scenes in the WOT?
Jofwu replied to Axsaul's topic in The Wheel of Time
Goosebumps every time. -
It strikes me that many of the final glyphs are suggestive of their essence. Skybreakers strongly resembles smoke. Truthwatchers strongly resembles plant life. Lightweavers is shaped like a heart (blood). Windrunners is definitely windy. Dustbringers kind of makes me think of fire and sharp edges of Edgedancers make me think crystal. The sides of Elsecallers makes me think of oil. Not so sure about the last 3.

Yes, the strangest thing is how "orders" are paired with different Surges. I definitely get the sense that the "orders" are actually the ten essences. We know that Vorinism puts a lot of weight in the ten essences, and the double eye is still around. Shallan refers to them as the "ten fundamental glyphs". It doesn't make sense that the ten fundamental glyphs would represent Radiant orders or some other obscure thing that they don't know much about. My guess, especially after seeing a bit of how this developed, is that the main symbols represent the essences, and that the words for the essences were derived from the names of the Heralds. So like the Windrunner glyph is something like "jez", meaning air. The problem with this is making sense of how everything got shuffled so much between the 2010 image and the final form. It suggests he changed around a lot of Herald/essence names last minute. e.g. Jezrien/Jez was originally going to be Nale/Nal (or whatever Nalan's essence is in Alethi).

I totally missed this. Can't believe more people aren't talking about it!

More of a contradiction than a typo. In chapter 27: Later in that chapter on the same day: There appears to be a discrepancy as to which day the bridge run was on. It could be interpreted as two separate bridge runs, but at this point in the story any dead or wounded men would be notable. (thus the careful explanation that nobody died in the first quote)

I'm trying to build a detailed Stormlight timeline, and I could use some help finding tidbits about chronology in Oathbringer as the preview chapters are released. If you'd like to help out, check out the Google doc below. It's open for editing! If you add something, please highlight it in red so that I know it's new. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Rr6mHJOEqSi7Sj1cJRFgX0xVyPJdgL_oVL2U_RPirGM/edit?usp=sharing

@FiveLate Yes! Those are relevant as well. Couldn't post in Discord for lack of spoiler control, and I was too lazy to dig up more quotes. I think there's a definite connection here. t don't mean to say that the black sphere and Skaze are directly related. But I feel that it MUST tell us something about the nature of the Investiture involved. Corrupted Investiture perhaps? What does that mean exactly? The term gets used around Nightblood occasionally. The WoB above talks about it a little, but is vague. Sounds like it could, on one hand, refer to different types of Investiture being mixed. At face value, I think it implies one form of Investiture has been changed in some way into another. Or perhaps that one form of Investiture has been "damaged" in some way. Also of note is that Hoid refers to the Skaze as a "synthetic race". If we can draw a connection with Nightblood, a "synthetic spren" so to speak, then perhaps there's something here? I don't think we know much about the Skaze, so this would be interesting insight into them. What do you guys think? Are there any cases where Nightblood seems to "suck in light"? Or is he and his effect always described as a simple blackness? (Rejected thought: I wondered briefly if Odium could have been involved with them, as we suspect he might with the black sphere... But I think there is evidence against this? I don't think this would make sense considering Hoid appears to be working with them. And if Nightblood is connected, it's highly unlikely Odium was involved there.)

Anyone else notice the similarities between Skaze and Gavilar's black sphere? I'm not entirely sure what to make of it, but two spherical things that "glow with blackness" seems notable. You might also argue that Nightblood is relevant to the conversation... And Ruin's black mist? I started a discussion about this on Discord, but wanted to share in the forums for further discussion. We talked a little bit about whether it implies relation to a particular Shard (probably not) and then wondered if it said something about the nature of the Investiture (i.e. corrupted? synthetic?). I wondered if it implies Seons and Skaze are related in the same way as spren and voidspren. A WoB on corrupted investiture is a little ways down in this post: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/53592-madison-wi-odessycon/#comment-429347 And there's this line related to Nightblood: "The blackness that leaks out is actually corrupted and consumed Breaths, the ones that Nightblood leeches off anyone who draws him." If you want to dig up the full conversation it started at 23:08 EST on #cosmere. Thoughts? Ideas?

Based on Lift's interlude, Nale only executes people (Radiants) in places where he has legal authority to do so. He doesn't have legal authority to kill Gavilar, and so he would do it. But in any case, there could be other reasons for the Heralds not doing it themselves. Like wanting to start a war, among other things we can only speculate on.
-
Regarding your (a) and (b) points, I don't think we know enough about what causes Desolations, or about what the Heralds think about what causes them, to say this. It's possible that Radiants popping up and Gavilar's plans are related. It's possible that multiple things can (potentially, maybe) cause a Desolation. I think there are too many variables to assume we understand how all of their plans fit together. And I don't see any problem with Nale doing something less hands on than usual. Gavilar is the king. He can't kill Gavilar "hands on" without being guilty of regicide. But nothing in the law says he can't find somebody else who wants Gavilar dead and hook them up with a powerful assassin. I think it absolutely fits with who Nale is. Nale and (probably) Kalak know that Szeth is there. They know he has an Honorblade. They're involved with him somehow. ("I don’t like this. What we’ve done was wrong." is certainly related to his statements about Szeth) Also note that they seem to be leaving and Nale says the feast is over (it wasn't) the very moment that the assassination picks up. They're totally aware of what's going on with Szeth. If you argue that someone else is responsible for connecting Szeth to the Parshendi, then you have to explain away this interaction and all of its implications. I find that very difficult to do. Directly killing Gavilar is against his code, but getting someone else the means to do it isn't. Heralds are not normal beings, so it's entirely likely that they can use/interact with the listener rhythms. And they get the added bonus of the Alethi starting a war with the Parshendi. This ensures Gavilar's work isn't easily picked up and it probably leads to these non-Parshmen listeners being wiped out. That's probably a good thing, in their view, when it comes to making sure Desolations don't happen. Nale/Ishar killing Radiants to prevent a Desolation doesn't imply that's the only thing that causes Desolations, or that the cause is so simple.
-
I'm of the opinion that the Heralds (particularly Nale/Kalak) are behind the Voice. I suspect they more or less know what Gavilar is up to, so they decide to have him killed. They have the motivation and likely the ability to speak through the rhythms. Venli could very well be involved somehow, but I don't think she set all of this up. I don't see how it could be any regular human. Team Odium is the second best option. Odium himself or an Unmade most likely. But I don't see why Gavilar's assassination was an important step in bringing the Everstorm. We could easily have come around to the same point a thousand different ways. It's entirely possible it may have happened sooner with him alive. I just don't see enough motivation I guess.
-
Some are used on Coppermind. I believe the WIndrunner glyph is in there as an .svg.
-
Okay, if nobody else is going to point it out then I will... "Vibrant" is an adjective, not a verb. Anyways, I also think Gavilar is just saying nice things. I doubt there's a deeper meaning or significance to the word "vibrant".
-
@Hadhad I'm going to assume that you'll take care of everything, but if you need help (regularly or in a specific case) just say the word.
-
@eveorjoy those are some really good observations. Yes, if Amaram interpreted the visions that way, it's likely that Gavilar did too, I think. @Ciridae I really like the idea that Venli may have played a role convincing Gavilar that they want their gods back! @yulerule Discord: https://discord.gg/7rTvZnK

Here's something I've been wondering about this morning... What's the purpose of this treaty? It sounds like Gavilar's plan is to release the Parshendi gods, bring on the Everstorm/Desolation, summon the Heralds and Radiants, and duke it out with the Voidbringers once and for all. He more or less confides this plan to Eshonai and bid her share it with the Five. So what purpose does the treaty serve? In TWoK, Jasnah supposes that he was after their Shardblades, but I don't see how that fits here. And I don't see any other great answers.

@Hadhad, I created the Oathbringer/Summary page and filled it in with the basic structure used by WoR. I assume that's helpful. If not you can delete it and start over. @Joe ST, I marked it with {{unpublished|sa3}} at the top, as we have on the book's main page. Is that sufficient? Would it be better to go ahead and start using {{spoilers}}? Also, I can remove the chapter redlinks if that's desirable... https://coppermind.net/wiki/Oathbringer/Summary

Re: power from the gods I think he's definitely talking about Surgebinding and Voidbinding (or whatever it is that listeners are capable of).
-
@Nathrangking and @Calderis, I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing... The Everstorm is mentioned in multiple visions. Tanavast knew it was coming. Yes, Gavilar absolutely knows more than was revealed in Dalinar's visions. Knowledge of how the Parshmen were created... knowledge about how to free the Parshendi gods... He knows things. I'm simply arguing that it's a MUCH bigger leap to say, "Gavilar is getting unique visions with more information from an alternate source," than it is to say, "Gavilar is getting the same visions as Dalinar AND he's dug up additional information elsewhere."
