As other answered have said, the shard holder maintains control of their own thoughts and actions for a protracted period of time before actually being fully controlled by their intent. As for why they didn't just kill each other eventually, the shards contain roughly equal strength, and the shards' intents are not mindless. For example, it's mentioned in the books that Ruin could build up something to later knock down 2 things. Ruin can better accomplish his goal by preserving himself to exert influence in the long term. Therefore, not destroying himself to destroy Preservation helps him eventually at the cost of immediate gratification. Also, when a shard is "destroyed", it's really just split into smaller, less controlled peices (i.e. the Seons and the Dor), and still acts to its intent, so it would have been a waste of ruin's energy. Odium, whose intent is hate, loathes the other shards with a passion. Even before being exposed to the intent of his shard, he was dangerous. With the power and intent of his shard, his sole goal became being the last concious shard in existence. His intent is forwarded only by violence, so he is the only shard whose intent requires him to commit it regardless of the situation. It's unknown why he is able to destroy shards that theoretically have equal power to him; we know he doesn't take investiture from the shards he destroys in an attempt to keep his own intent pure, so he doesn't accumulate power that way. The best working theory (at least in my opinion) is that he's able to accomplish so much by investing less investiture, only doing what is necessary to defeat his enemy, unlike other shards who pour their investiture into things like sculpting planets or creating life that aren't relevant to their success

Maybe turn down your device brightness?

I'm assuming it still runs on BBCode? In which case, you would type it with square brackets, not triangles

I really like the new skin! The glyphs and Steel Alphabet look really cool. I may have to change my profile image, so the shape and color isn't so drastically different from everything else, but that's a minor cost The added features are really great too. Now I can actually make a ninja emoticon on mobile without having to know the code! Plus, the spoiler button and quote button should be fairly useful later on. And, the word "button" just auto hyphenated in my editor, which is really cool. Oh, and when you read a quote, is the time for the "x minutes ago playername said" from the time it's being read or the time the quote was posted? Edit: It's from when the quote is being viewed, which is kinda cool

....and this is supposed to be a defense how, exactly?

Thanks, Araris. I'm leaving it on til you explain your suspicion of Maill, though. He seems pretty good to me, so I'm interested to see why you're suspicious of him My main reasoning for thinking he's good: he claimed the person Stink caught him targeting with his action was the WB. If Stink is actually able to scan for the target, he can just scan said person to find whether or not they actually targeted Seodin or not last night, therefore determining Maill's truthfulness. And, assuming the person Maill targeted was really a WB, his lack of interfering with or killing said WB makes it appear that he's probably not a darkfiend or corrupted, both of whom would have motives to mess with the WB rather than doing whatever Maill did.
-
Araris, it feels like you're being intentionally vague. You mentioned that you were suspicious of Maill, and as soon as people began asking for your rationale you switched to a similarly vague vote on Con. It feels slightly off to me. Mind elaborating on your motives so I can take that vote off?

Quick Fix Game 16: The Shades of Threnody

I haven't received a PM regarding my success or items I've received, but short of a secret role, I successfully gave DC something. Hopefully, he'll check on relatively soon- 346 replies

Quick Fix Game 16: The Shades of Threnody
Bugsy replied to RippleGylf's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Even if we just pass now, we can eliminate from the pool whoever participates, and raise our chances of a success on C2 at least slightly. Everyone with an item, please pass it. We'll hopefully have better coordination on C2, but since items don't change or disappear after they're passed (only after they're used), we can track their paths and hopefully analyze that. Plus, it'll work just as well C2 when you don't have an item. The only motive to be opposed to passing your item this cycle is to make yourself less suspicious next turn (when there's more participation) at the cost of losing information, which hurts the village and would only really benefit the elims- 346 replies

Hey everyone! Sorry I didn't post last night, I didn't trust myself to be coherent My only real suspicion right now is Seodin, based on mainly gut and some circumstantial evidence mentioned by El earlier. Oh, and perhaps he was so confident about Meta being detained because Gunshy detained him C1 and just wants us to believe he has a their taker in communication with him? (Insert ninja emoticon that I don't know the code for) Not sure how likely this is, but figured I could share the thought.

Hey everyone! Sorry I didn't post last night, I didn't trust myself to be coherent Anyways, I like the passing items strategy. I can comfirm I have an item, so I can be part of it. Who doesn't currently have an item? Please post publicly in thread so you can be given one by someome who has 2 items (if anyone does). Please do claim, so we don't mislynch you for not passing when you have an item- 346 replies

Or, if you are using a device other than a computer, you can do: [i]Text Here[/i]That will show up as:Text Here

Good luck! And I just realized Gunshy was lynched C2... *Facepalm* I was saying he was lynched so he couldn't have detained anyone. Forgot that he wasn't lynched that cycle...

I looked over the rules really quickly, and if you actually know a whitecloak who didn't target Elodin C1, that would probably mean 2 are still alive. I'm basing this on the fact that the lynch preceeds the whitecloak kill (since the lynch happens at the end of the day while detaining happens at the beginning of the night). Gamma, can you confirm or deny this? Where does the lynch go in the order of operations?Edit: 1) I'm leaning village on you, and you have a good amount of stuff to back you up. You may be a good target for corruption, but no way to be sure. I don't really like the lynch votes on you, but can't really refute them. Mayoral votes on you, I support (pretty sure I'm one of them )2) As for Aman, I'm leaning village as well. His accusation of you was well reasoned, even if it wasn't the most compelling. He also kept on the offensive even after you said you thought he was village, risking drawing more attention to the argument, which he wouldn't want as much as an elim (it would put him and his arguments under scrutiny) 3) As I've said in PMs, I don't know Meta's style well enough to get a read on him. I trust, for the most part, suspicions voiced to me by players who have spent longer playing with him, so I'm slightly suspicious just for those 4) I don't really care who gets mayor, so long as it isn't Lopen for a 3rd cycle
-
If I understand correctly, people are trying to infer why there were no conversions last night. I'd like to propose another idea: perhaps Fain just didn't find a suitable target. I mean, if they have limited converts, they'd want to kill someone who has a useful role, rather than just rolling the dice. They also could just wait until near the end and then mass convert to suddenly outnumber the other players (nothing in the rules about converting multiple people in the same night). That would minimize their potential to have allies killed, so they'd all count towards win con rather than only the survivors Apparently I can't type coherent sentences today. Edited for more gooder grammerz
-
I say we need a new mayor. It went from a one turn temporary station to a more permanent and corruptible target, and we're setting a bad precident by not taking every precaution we can. I'll just vote Lomion, since I'm getting some relatively village reads. May change later. Oh, and I'm assuming Elodin evaded the WB kill since he's still alive. That could mean any number of things, but I doubt the WB would have forgotten to place a kill in the double night cycle we had. Now I'm going to give my incredibly overtired brain a few hours rest. Night all

Hey everyone, I have a world history final, writ lit project, and computer science project all of which need to be submitted tomorrow. Basically, I might not have time to play. I'll try and check every once in awhile, but no promises
-
Actually, Gunshy was acting really suspiciously IRL in regards to this game. I tried not to let it influence me, because I thought it might violate the Rules of Fair Play to get a read off him like that, but I'm fairly certain he was an actual elim.
-
Wait, what? I thought it was a tie before I voted.Edit: Gah, must've been using an old vote tally. I'm going to take off all my votes until I figure out what is storming happening here
-
I don't want a tie, I'd rather know exactly what's about to happen (I'm slightly CDO like that ). Plus, I'm not particularly suspicious of Elodin, so Elodin Gunshy. Sorry, dude. Hope you had fun your first SE game
-
I think I see what you're implying. I'm leaving my vote on Elodin except for a worst case scenario of a tie to the end of the cycle. I think HS is likely innocent (or at least not a threat) if I'm interpreting Bard's post correctly.
