Honestly, I'd say never say never. He probably won't get a book of his own where he has flashbacks, but I wouldn't be surprised if he actually starts getting a lot more focus in the future. I mean, at the rate we're going Stormlight Archive will end in 15/20 years, which is a lot of time to change things up.

Personally, I don't like this argument. If two characters have good chemistry and suit each other, I think precluding their relationships just because they are both main characters is worse than taking the cliche route. And either way I can think of many examples in which that doesn't happen... I do agree on not wanting to see Adolin heartbroken, though. Shallan and him made a good couple in WoR and if that ended, especially if it was because Kaladin got in the mix, it would be a terrible blow for Adolin.

How can there be no Lopen quote yet? Let me rectify that, anything that guy says is gold. “My other hand?” Lopen said. “The one that was cut off long ago, eaten by a fearsome beast? It is making a rude gesture toward you right now. I thought you would wish to know, so that you can prepare to be insulted.”
-
First of all, I have to say I agree about Adolin being smart, but I think the fact that Kaladin is implied to be more than that is actually made very clear in the book. Like for example in the scene where he points out how if Shallan wanted to see a chrisalis, she didn't have to go out with the expedition and she compares them. The exact quote is: "Blast. A solid argument. It was a good thing Adolin hadn’t thought of that. The prince was wonderful, and he certainly wasn’t stupid, but he was also . . . mentally direct. This bridgeman was proving himself different. The way he watched her, the way he thought. Even, she realized, the way he spoke. He talked like an educated lighteyes."

Adolin reviving his shardblade is actually one of the most popular theories around and I'm pretty sure there's a WoB in which it's confirmed that it's possible to do that, but it's incredibly hard/rare. As for the hints that point to that, other than him talking to the blade a lot, there's also the fact that towards the end of WoR Adolin stops feeling the Thrill, just like Dalinar did when he started the process of becoming a radiant. I've also read some theories that state he's already been able to hear the spren (specifically when Szeth is about to attack him in the final battle), but I'm not quite sure about that. Still, there's definitely something going on there, but maybe Brandon is just messing with us and he'll take Adolin in the opposite route, as in making him join the dark side... Either way, his arc should definitely be interesting

Honestly, I think if Kaladin and Shallan don't get together, it will either be because they're just not suited to one another or Adolin is simply a better match for Shallan. I really doubt outside reasons such as their spren hating each other could seriously interfere with their potential relationship, especially if the two radiants truly cared about one another. And I find it even more unlikely that his next words could be something like: "I won't try it on my mate's girl", as it would be a pretty frivolous oath for a Knight Radiant. Hilarious, but frivolous. Still, if Kaladin does make a move on Shallan while she's engaged with Adolin, then I'll definitely be disappointed. Not because he'd be infringing his oaths, but the bro code

Did he actually say Shalladin moments? I wonder if he's aware of all the shipping (wars) for this series. Anyways, that sounds like great news to me. I was starting to think that Kaladin and Shallan wouldn't see each other in Oathbringer, or maybe only briefly, and that would suck because we need to see them interact a bit more before we can truly say they fit each other or not. Most importantly, though, I need to read about the meeting between Syl and Pattern because that can only turn out to be bloody entertaining.

That sounds like a love triangle to me, but then again maybe Brandon's implying that it's not one because it won't get much further than Shallan contemplating who she prefers for a while to then realise she actually cares for Adolin, while her feelings foe Kaladin were just fleeting

That is a sweet cover! On a different note, these quotes make me wonder what city is being invaded. If I'm not mistaken, there was no mention of city walls in Urithuru, so if I had to guess I'd say it's Kholinar. I would love the climax of Oathbringer being the current knight radiants assembling Avengers style to save the capital. “We’re centered on a scene where Jasnah confronts the invaders,” Whelan says of the cover. “A giant has smashed a breach in the city wall, and Jasnah is called upon to restore it.” “After dispatching several invaders with her Shardblade sword, she covers the gap with a brassy wall of magical metal. It’s a very visual scene, in which I saw a lot of possibilities for good images.”

A future book doesn't necessarily mean it's Oathbringer

Considering Brandon's tendencies of throwing curve balls at us, the fact that so far Adolin has actually been foreshadowed more to be joining the ranks of Radiants than go rogue may actually be just a red herring, but at this point I think it could go either way. After the last update on Oathbringer, though, I'm starting to think that Adolin could actually just maintain his status quo with no shocking developments.

I think it's quite possible that Elkholar will become a radiant, but at the same I feel Brandon will play with our expectations by teasing both him and Adolin as potential future radiants. The only thing is I suspect only one of them will become one while the other would be used as a red herring.

How awesome would it be if after all the ships and love triangles surrounding Shallan, Adolin and Kaladin that there have been, Shallan ended up with a totally unrelated female character?

Theories about what did Kaladin do to Szeth's Honorblade
geralt replied to goody153's topic in Stormlight Archive
So what benefit (if any) would Kaladin get out of bonding with the Honorblade anyways? He already possesses the surges it would grant him and dualwielding, as cool as it would be, sounds like it would be more of a waste of stormlight than an advantage. Unless it increases the power or efficiency of lashings drastically, it would be best if he left it to Dalinar for protecting himself. Although, I just thought of how awesome it would be to see Kaladin hold a shardshield (basically Syl transforming into a shield) in one hand and the honorblade in the other...- 22 replies

This is a really intriguing theory and it could explain why the radiants decided to break their oaths and cause the recreance to happen. It would also explain why Nale is so fixated in getting rid of potential radiants and if I'm not mistaken one of the messages from Taravangian's diagram is about how the secret of why the radiants abandoned mankind could be used to split them.

What the Hell Shallan? Also Kaladin.
geralt replied to NathanielHellman's topic in Stormlight Archive
I wasn't a fan of their first meetings either, but once they stopped being so hostile to one another I thought their interactions were actually done very well. For example, other than the obvious chasm scene, I really liked their conversation where Shallan points out to Kaladin how his prejudices towards Adolin were totally unfounded.- 25 replies

The chasm scene made this love triangle inevitable in my eyes, but I'm really hoping it won't be too melodramatic. Only a few things can become as tedious as reading about a main character pondering for hundreds of pages about who he/she has feelings for, especially when there are much greater events at play like there will definitely be in Oathbringer.

Which characters will be more/less important?

Could it be a totally new character who is/will become a radiant? -

If the Hearthstone arc gets resolved quickly, Kaladin will likely then head to Kholinar afterwards and I'm pretty sure that would actually be relevant to the story. Anyways, didn't Brandon suggest there may be new characters getting viewpoint chapters as well or did I imagine that? -

Considering it's his book, Dalinar will obviously be the most prominent character and get the most focus. I think Brandon already stated Kaladin and Shallan will have about the same presence as Kaladin had in WoR, so they'll still maintain their relevancy. I guess Adolin could be getting more viewpoint chapters than before, as he hasn't had many so far and there should be quite a few plot threads to explore with him. For someone less obvious, I think Moash could get a decent amount of pages, even though I'm not exactly sure where his character will even go. Szeth could go either way i reckon. He will be involved in what is probably going to be one of the most exciting part of the book, but I woudn't be surprised if that won't be in Oathbringer. -
Nale probably wouldn't be interested in pursuing Adolin unless he becomes a radiant and even then, considering the ending of WoR, the skybreakers and Szeth should be pretty busy fighting against the honorblade-wielding monks for a while... I reckon Adolin's biggest threat is likely to be Ialai.

SPOILERS! ---Does Kaladin like Shallan, and Vice Versa?---
geralt replied to ChullRider's topic in Stormlight Archive
That could be it, but I personally don't agree with that interpretation because I feel, to Kaladin, life just consists of protecting others since Tien's death. I'd go as far as to say that his brother's death broke him so much, he lost all capacity to actually derive enjoyment from anything other than his duty, which is why I doubt he'd be wishing for that kind of relationship. -
SPOILERS! ---Does Kaladin like Shallan, and Vice Versa?---
geralt replied to ChullRider's topic in Stormlight Archive
There's a moment later which clearly shows Kaladin's attracted to Shallan. It's when he goes to see the army leaving and if I recall correctly he specifically describes her as being gorgeous and also says he may hate the fact Adolin and Shallan make a good couple. -
Bridge 4 saving Dalinar's army and Adolin's duel against the four shardbearers were fantastic, but I have to say the moment I first became hooked on the series was at the end of part 1 of tWoK. When Kaladin's umpteenth failure culminated in his decision to go to the Honor chasm while reflecting about his life, the scene was already starting to get emotional and then his conversation with Syl sealed the deal for me.

I think it would work better as a movie series instead, if only because the cheap special effects a tv show would get just wouldn't do the series justice. Each movie would have to be pretty long if it were to adapt an entire book faithfully, though. Like, three hours long.
