So my mom has been photographing a pair of Great Horned Owl babies at a local park in Ohio and sending me pictures, and some of them were just begging to be memefied. So here, enjoy memes of fluffy owlets! Things kids complain about #2378: bathtime. Channeling Christopher Walken: If Captain Kirk had been an owl: Do I even need to explain this reference, or is it too old for most people here? Owl gazes are the epitome of "intense": Parents never get a break...not even owl parents! Birdhemian Rhapsody (Thanks to @bleeder for that awesome pun!):

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!

Think about it this way: Maybe your competition was freakishly, outstandingly good at drum majoring and mere mortals never stood a chance. Maybe the band director(s) would rather have you in the band playing your instrument for reasons of musical balance. If you feel like you did really well, then you know you performed according to your current ability. Plus, as you said, there is still next year, and just imagine: a year from now, you'll have another 12 months of experience and practice and learning that will make you an even better drum major. *hugs* -

You know you're a Sanderfan when you see an author's last name, Scull, and misread it as "chull." -

When I get an email from someone who is supposed to be literate and they write things like "I always new I was going to be an author" or use *smiles* instead of "haha" or an actual emoticon.

I definitely feel very blessed to have been able to go. I've made so many friends with the other students in my ornithology class. =) -

I got back from my 3-day birdwatching field trip yesterday, and it was AMAZING! Before the trip, I had 104 species on my semester list for my ornithology class, and after the trip, I now have 142 =D That includes 18 new kinds of birds that I'd never seen before in my life, so I am a very happy camper. We left Thursday morning from Provo and spent most of the day driving, stopping along the way to look at birds. Our destination was Lytle Ranch in southwestern Utah. I'm told the drive takes about 5 hours if you do it nonstop, but we stretched it out with birding breaks and food breaks so that we arrived at about 7pm. We slept there Thursday night, spent all of Friday on the ranch birding, slept there again Friday night, and began the drive back to Provo on Saturday morning after a little more birding, breakfast, and cleanup. We stopped a few places on the drive back too. Here are some of my favorite birds from the trip (not my photos, since I haven't had time to process mine yet): Black-necked Stilt: Peregrine Falcon: Long-billed Curlew: Bell's Vireo and Warbling Vireo (Check out how similar they look): Phainopepla (pronounced FAY-no-pep-luh): Lucy's Warbler: Ladder-backed Woodpecker: Verdin: Costa's Hummingbird: Abert's Towhee: -
@Darkness Ascendant Thank God you're okay! (Or at least semi-okay. :/ ) I was really worried about you. *hugs* Hang in there and as Del said, call the police if you need to. I'll be sending positive vibes and good thoughts your way.

=O That paper sword is so cool, @Darkness Ascendant!! My good news: My birding field trip starts tomorrow!! My ornithology class (~60 students, plus 2 TAs and our professor) will be spending most of Thursday driving to a remote ranch in southern Utah's desert, stopping at multiple hotspots along the way to birdwatch. We'll spend all of Friday on the ranch chasing birds and drive back on Saturday, possibly stopping to bird some more on the way back, depending on how exhausted everyone is. I am unbelievably excited about this trip. Like, all of these at once: The only downside is that the ranch has no Internet, so I'll be offline for the vast majority of the next three days. I might find some Wi-Fi when we stop for meals during the drive there and back, but no guarantees. But hopefully I'll have lots of photos of cool birds to share when I get back! -

Last night I dreamed that my parents bought me a ukulele. No idea why they would do that. So I was sitting there trying to tune it except the strings kept falling off, and it had no frets, and I'm 100% sure I was holding the neck wrong with my left hand.

I just tried out a new hand lotion that contains shea butter and cocoa butter, and now my hands smell vaguely like chocolate. XD

*snatches bonus points* Even if you can't ID him from a photo, if you haven't heard this guy's name in the last year... Do you even Internet?

Now I really want to write a poem about this.

So yesterday I posted in the Bad Day thread about my sleep deprivation, but overall yesterday was actually quite wonderful. The weather was so beautiful that I ended up using my between-classes break to bird on campus instead of napping as I'd originally planned, and that left me in a happy mood the whole rest of the day despite almost nodding off in one of my afternoon classes. The moral of the story: birdwatching fixes everything. -

@Kaymyth If you're a moron, then so am I, because I did the exact same thing in art class with an X-acto knife once. Was cutting toward my hand, slipped, stabbed myself, and after bandaging my finger resumed cutting toward myself again. XD -

I agree! They make the most hideous noise, though. XD Let's see if I can find a video of it... Ok found one. Skip to 0:50 for the "unholy racket" I referenced in my post with the photos. XD
