Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Sunbird replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
That's not good! Is there any chance of re-attaching the button caps? Either doing it yourself or taking it to a tech expert for repair? -
Welcome, Wiggs!! Left must be a pretty cool brother if he got you into Sanderson and introduced you to the Shard. A word of advice, though--don't take the cookies! They're kinda, um... hemalurgic. Besides Sanderson, what are some other books/authors you enjoy?

I am amused. Last summer there was a pair of Cooper's Hawks on campus at my uni that built a nest in a tree right next to a sidewalk and started attacking passing students because they were too close to the nest. Well, they're at it again. One of my friends from ornithology class last semester got dive-bombed the other day. (He's fine, just a little sore.) You'd think the hawks would learn not to get so bent out of shape over people walking by since they live on campus and people walk by all the time! (Not my photo, this Cooper's Hawk is from Google.)

Welcome back, Pestis! I've missed seeing your fuzzy jumping spider photo around, and I remember you often having cool and worthwhile things to say. No idea what bad thing happened, so please don't feel unwelcome! -

@Erunion @Darkness Ascendant Even if that's not the established "correct" use of the meme, I think it fits really well with the caption to get the right effect across.

I have 2 mosquito bites on my shoulder blade. Naturally, I can't reach either of them. SO IRRITATING.

@Mestiv and @Oversleep are both Polish.

@StrikerEZ LOL, you're not the only one who uses "birb." I actually picked it up from a humorous Facebook group about misidentifying birds. Apparently lots of parrot owners use it tongue-in-cheek too, sort of like "snek" or "kitteh." -

@Mestiv Yeah. I'm glad that at least since all the dangerous snakes in Utah are rattlers, IDing them on the spot isn't hard. XD -

@Herowannabe As a cat person who has also experienced the worry of losing my indoor kitty outside, I feel your pain. *hugs* You're doing everything you can. Don't stop. I believe Rugby will make it home to his people safely. -

Oh boy. You bet we have some dangerous snakes in our area! Apparently there are 6 species of rattlesnake that can be found in Utah, all venomous enough to kill a person. I've never seen one, but my grandpa has lots of stories to tell about close encounters of the scaly kind. -

I found a snake today. A BIG snake. Photos spoilered because I don't want to freak anyone out without advance warning. Here's one where you can see the whole snake. I'm guessing he was 4 feet long (~120 cm), at least. Close-up of the head: And I took a shot of the tail so you can see the patterning a little better: After doing a little bit of Googling about snakes that live in Utah, I've come to the conclusion that this is a Gophersnake (link to Wikipedia page). Long story short, it's large and might scare your pants off with its rattlesnake impression, but it's harmless. -
I thought this photo of an apparently headless Cooper's Hawk would amuse y'all: He was preening his back feathers; here's what he looks like normally XD Random side note: @Mestiv, your sig has nailed down my city but failed to notice that my display name is now Sunbirb, not Sunbird.

I'd be all for it if I weren't horribly behind the times in the sense that I still haven't read Edgedancer... But don't let me stop you.

I was just joking.

Have you guys seen the winning entries to the First Annual Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards? They are, naturally, hilarious, so much so that I've started making memes out of some of them... Spoilered for size.

That's okay! I just discovered there's an ebook copy of the 10th anniversary edition that I can borrow through my local library. =D
-
@Extesian ahh, ok. Haven't read the extra epilogue... Is there anywhere to find it outside if the Elantris 10th anniversary edition?
-
@Darkness Ascendant unfortunately it was too dark for photos. Didn't help that I left my camera at home. XD
