Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
DrakeMarshall replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I don't feel like RPing a response to your question, so allow me to just give you a simple answer. I have explained why I suspect El in the thread I voted for her. Her behavior most closely matched what I speculated the behavior of an eliminator would be. No, the suspicions are not remotely substantial. If we are dead set on killing someone this cycle (dead set... get it ) then I have to vote to kill the person I most suspect. Even if, in truth, I don't suspect her all that much. The alternative of me voting for El is that someone who I suspect even less than El gets lynched. Sorry El.- 1403 replies

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
DrakeMarshall replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Felix surveyed the crowd. His eyes settled on the mangled corpse still in the square. Someone really needs to clean that up... Give him a proper burial or something. It was time for a death apparently. The people of Tyrian Falls were scared, and someone would hang. Hm... A vote, then... Civic duty and all that. "Townspeople... You require a death? Fine then. I will cast my vote. Survivor guide my hand... I must think about this for a moment. If I were one of those spiked, foul servants of the Lord Ruler... I would be moderately active, while doing my best to not contribute anything real. I would be particularly vocal about the attack on Whistler last night, because acting concerned about the attack is the simplest way to pretend to be a normal townsman. I would not risk making a first vote. I would however gladly pile my vote on top of someone else's so that an innocent could be lynched. "Guilt has very quick ears to an accusation." That is true when the guilty is accused, but it is doubly true when an innocent is accused. Now, in truth this is something of a shot in the dark... But the best fits to this description are probably Sothe, El, or Grumbles. Seeing as there are already two votes on El (and it looks like, for good or for ill, this town is lynching someone)... I vote for El. El, you stand accused of being an abominable and demonic servant of the Lord Tyrant, and an agent of darkness and chaos. I wouldn't mind hearing your defense." Survivor send that I am right about this... Also, unrelated to the above reasoning, but I don't think Wilson was pulling WGG. I don't know Wilson all that much, but from what people are saying... The fact that this is Wilson, and the fact that this was n1... That would be a somewhat foolish gambit. And I doubt the elims decided to both attack and heal an innocent. Even if that innocent is Wilson, that just doesn't make any sense as a strategy. Far better to make a clean kill on n1 when nobody even has real suspicions. The elims probably are a little annoyed that their kill failed. So, chances are we legitimately have a lurcher that guessed the right person to protect last night. Good job lurcher.- 1403 replies

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
DrakeMarshall replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I finally read up on all these posts! Hooray! Felix walked through the morning mists towards the village square. It was a good day... Nobody was dead. He heard the shouts before he saw them. Argument and chaos in the square. Two villagers denouncing each other in the center. Suddenly a third man approached and lay into the pair with his staff, then, standing over their collapsed forms, made a speech of his own. Chaos. Felix sighed. Then he remembered that nobody was killed. He approached the center of Tyrian Falls, trying to steer clear of the man brandishing that heavy looking staff. This is probably a bad idea... But it looks like I need to join this chaos and speak over them to make headway. Survivor protect me. Hm... A good opening statement would be nice. Again, Felix found it necessary to draw on his literary knowledge... Oh, I know. "Friends, Scadrians, and townsmen! Lend me your ears!" It'll do. "You are in chaos, accusing each other of great crimes. This is understandable... We know for certain that there are traitors in our midst. But this is not a time for killing! It is a time for rejoicing! Our defenses have kicked off to an auspicious start indeed! The Lord Survivor has granted us safety for yet another day! I encourage you to use this gift. Discuss, perhaps even accuse... but do not aim to take a life this soon. Try to learn from each other. And above all, trust in the salvation offered by the Survivor. Tyrian Falls will not fall!" My impressions right now is that nobody is too clearly suspect. Yeah, people are accusing each other, but the ones who are willing to put themselves out on a limb making unfounded accusations probably aren't spiked. I do believe we should vote for a lynch, just to learn from how people vote this early on... Right now, however, the name of the game should be getting information. It might be worthwhile to try and keep our votes balanced however. That would mean that possibly nobody gets lynched but we still learn who wanted to lynch who. It would also mean that we could tell if a soother or rioter was trying to kill someone very easily. Just an idea. And on the seeker topic... I could of coarse be wrong about this, but I would bet that both the spiked and the townies receive a seeker. This is pretty much just because balance.- 1403 replies

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
DrakeMarshall replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Felix accompanied the stranger to the manor the town was congregated in. It was an opulent place which looked like it was desperately trying to be one of the great keeps in Luthadel, and making a rather impressive effort at it despite falling short of the Great Houses. He approached the prominent set of double-doors that he assumed would house the people of Tyrian Falls at the moment. Felix opened the doors with what he hoped was a decisive motion. It was time to get some answers... And maybe offer some too. Felix was met by a large crowd. They were eating and talking over each other and trying to push the mangled corpse in the square out of their minds. He was aware that several of the hallway were scrutinizing him, the newcomer. A man in traveling clothes stepped through the doorway. He looked mostly unremarkable, neither obviously skaa nor noble. His eyes were a very dark brown and his nose looked like it had been broken and never healed quite right. He had a chipped short-sword on his belt, a patched leather book bag filled to bursting slung over his back, and a large painted silver spear hung prominently around his neck. Herwynbe the Terrisman approached the stranger. Before he reached him, however, the newcomer addressed the crowd. "Greetings. I am called Felix. On my arrival, I have heard something to the effect that this town..."--What is it called again...? Oh, that's right--"this town, Tyrian Falls, is very much in danger. What's more, I have seen the danger with my own eyes. A host of big, vicious, bluish creatures I must assume are Koloss, the vile demons of the Lord Ruler himself. A horde that will easily destroy us. Truly, it will take a miracle for us to survive an attack... But I also bring hope. Hope of survival. The mists sent me here for a reason... The Survivor has saved me from those creatures, and now he will save this town. The Survivor will protect us. We will of coarse need to make sacrifices. The corpse I saw in the square should make that bleedingly obvious."--Felix winces at the unintended pun, then tries to pick up where he left off--"And yet Lord Kelsier was no stranger to sacrifices. After all, he gave his own life to kill the Lord Tyrant. Even as we will take losses, through this test of our wills, the people of Tyrian Falls will survive! No matter how impossible it seems, no matter what we are up against."--Felix pauses for a moment, trying to remember an appropriate quote from one of his favorite books... His face lights up as he recalls the one he had in mind. "Yes! These are Koloss. Yes, we're probably going to fight them. I don't know what they can do. I don't know why they have returned. But we are here to stop them. I know you're scared. In Luthadel, when the Survivor rebelled against the Lord Tyrant, we dismissed his vision as delusion. Well, now we see that the Survivor's words were true! Now we see what he told us would come! The Lord Tyrant, who reigned over us as a god of darkness, dethroned! I have been sent by Lord Kelsier himself to save this town from annihilation! I have seen what the minions of the Lord Tyrant can do; I have seen lives broken by his iron-eyed abominations. I've seen unspeakable oppression, peoples ruined, technologies suppressed. I've seen civilization brought to the trembling edge of eternal darkness. We will prevent this! Today you fight not for the wealth of a nobleman, or for the whim of a tyrant. Today, you fight for for the survival of all men. You will not fight alone! Trust in what I have seen, trust in my words. If those creatures of the Lord Tyrant have returned, so too will the forces that once defeated him. We will see miracles before this day is out, townsmen! We merely have to be strong enough to deserve them." Felix watched the crowd, which was mostly silent after his abrupt arrival and outburst. Yes, that was the quote I had in mind... Hopefully it will move these people to stop feasting and prepare... Survivor send that there is still time for that before the creatures arrive.- 1403 replies

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
DrakeMarshall replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The mists swirled around Felix as he advanced silently through the village. Tyrian Falls, was it? At any rate, it appeared to be completely deserted. Felix was still uncertain what to make of the place. On one hand, the Survivor had miraculously saved him from a hoard of Koloss... On the other hand, the silence of this place was eerie. Something felt off. He passed a desolate bar a sign declared to be The Sixteenth Letter. Odd... For a deserted bar the place looks immaculately clean. Maybe not so deserted after all. Felix walked in the entry to inspect the place, tracking a dark trail of ash across the unnaturally clean wood floor. Huh. Empty indeed. Not even some kind of a note, or a sign to indicate it is closed... Someone must have left here recently in something of a hurry. "Won't somebody please help me get inside before night falls?" A voice pierced the mists outside. Felix rushed back out of The Sixteenth Letter towards the voice's source. He was met with a strange sight. An old man, standing in the middle of a clearing over a body... Survivor. The body was mangled almost beyond recognition. Felix had never seen violence like this in the overthrow of Luthadel. The man was casually standing over the body, inspecting something in his hand... A strand of hair? Judging by the boot prints in the square, not yet covered by ash fall, a crowd had been here recently. "What happened here?" Felix asked the man with a mix of fascination and horror.- 1403 replies

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
DrakeMarshall replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
This game looks like a good one. Am I correct in supposing that there is still one day left for signups? Ash fell from the sky. Felix wished it hadn't come to this. Dead before he ever reached Fadrex. But no. Felix would survive. Kelsier himself promised that they would be protected. And what are a bunch of Koloss to the Survivor, if he can overcome death itself? Felix walked along the road, doing his best not to draw attention to himself. In the midst of a host of terrible creatures he presumed were Koloss... Felix wasn't eager to tempt fate. He believed there would be a way out... And yet, the closest town nearly a week's journey away. And if he was spotted... Maybe there is no way out of this. Sometimes you have to be ready to make sacrifices. And yet. Would he give up? To do so would be to acquiesce to that obligator's authority over Fadrex. To do so would be to fail the Survivor. There had to be a way. The Koloss hadn't noticed Felix yet, even though their campfires shone ominously through the mists on all sides. if he was lucky, he might still escape. Felix scanned the horizon. Nothingness, ash, mist, and... What? The mists condensed in the distance... A solid shape on the horizon. A town. It made no sense. How could a town... The closest town is days away according to the maps. And how did he not see it earlier? It was almost like the town had just materialized... From nothing. No, not nothing. From the mists. Then he understood. Felix should never have doubted. The Survivor had claimed the mists were his. Today they provided him sanctuary. A town. Salvation itself. He approached the town's squat outer wall, making a quick mental prayer of thanks to Kelsier. He didn't understand. For now, he didn't care. He stood at the town's entry gate. Fixed to the lintel was a warped board that read Tyrian Falls. For some reason, a chill ran up Felix' spine. Survivor Priest sounds like it would be interesting, if the role I was asking for wasn't sufficiently obvious.- 1403 replies

Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru
DrakeMarshall replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yo I'm seeing a lot of people apologizing to me... I just wanna say that I was actually fine with dying. I've never played SE before, but I'm no stranger to mafia, and death is just how the game works. I just wanted to go out with a bang somehow (although to be fair, I did legitimately think that it was worth shooting for a solo win for the Ghostbloods)... I hope you liked my final speech It's about the RP as much as it is about the strategy, because a story set in the cosmere is something I can get on board with I do fully intend to play other SE games in the future- 329 replies

Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru
DrakeMarshall replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The crowd faces Uther. Most of them want him dead, and those who do not have given up. More than a few weapons are leveled at him, and he is backed dangerously close to one of those windows. Storms, that's a long way down... The base of the tower is barely visible from this high up. He cannot see a way out of his demise. He is quickly considering possibilities. They want to work together. But how can we work together? If we had a common goal, maybe we could overlook our different methods of reaching it... But we do not have anything close to a common goal! The Sons of Honor are GLAD the everstorm has come! The Diagramists would see the entirety of this PLANET subjugated in the name of a dream their old fool of a king once had. They cared nothing for the goals of the Ghostbloods. And we would NOT be forced into submission to them. And the self-proclaimed "Sons of Honor", hiding behind the backs of Diagramists... Honorable indeed. Yes. The Sons of Honor. The only reason they threw their lots with the Diagramists is because they had to. To refuse their help would be to accept defeat. Some of the Diagramists likely do not really want to work with the Sons of Honor. And some of the Sons of Honor undoubtedly would rather not work with Diagramists. They allied out of necessity; both factions were critically weakened on the first cycle and without an alliance the Ghostbloods would have devestated them. Now that the Ghostbloods approach a weakened state... The alliance becomes less and less necessary for either faction to succeed. And, there was the fact that the Ghostbloods still had a cook in play... And yet, we don't have voter majority, in part due to Ghostbloods who betrayed their own cause. And, as I had expected, we are still subject to cook kills. They really seem to think everyone can work together, after all this. Not that it mattered. The Diagramists had outmaneuvered him. They had turned a sudden defeat into a spectacular victory. But they won't be enough. The everstorm... This is the way the world ends... This is the way the world ends... This is the way the world ends... Not with a bang. NOT with a whimper. With a howl. The howl of a distant, unnatural, terrible storm on the horizon. There was no avoiding his death. Uther understood that and accepted it. Through some twist of fate, the Ghostbloods had been defeated. He stares at the triple-diamond insignia, tattooed on his wrist. It stood for a higher cause... But the world has a way of turning those on their heads. Uther had seen it happen to plenty of other causes... Storms, he had overthrown his share of them. Now the Ghostbloods were in danger of the same. Not that he would live to see it happen. He stands up on a crate, his back to the window, elevated above the crowd. He clears his throat to address the warring factions one last time before they take him. "Diagramists. I cannot help but salute you. You were uncovered so early, and through some miracle you have manipulated the crowds into doing your bidding instead of bringing you to justice. The battle is yours. But you know what? This world is ending. Regardless of what your Diagram might tell you, you are not equipped to deal with the storm that has come. Enjoy your victory while it lasts." "Sons of Honor. My death sets you free of your obligation to the Diagramists. Our numbers are cut down, and the Ghostbloods are no longer the threat to you we were. When the Ghostbloods had the choice, most of us voted against a Bondsmith's victory. Now you have the choice. You must decide. Are you really committed to working with the Diagramists?" "Ghostbloods. All I can do is wish our edgedancer hadn't let the Diagramists know they were discovered. As it is, our forces are greatly weakened. With the losses we sustain, you will no doubt be maneuvered into a pact with the others, which is in truth our best and only chance at survival. I don't know what the future holds, nor will I live to know it one day, but... For what it's worth, good luck." "And as for the Bondsmith... Most importantly the Bondsmith... You only want to unite us. Well, perhaps I can't stop you. But after the thrill of your victory settles down, and after you return to your daily business... I want you to face yourself with a hard question. You are a Bondsmith, and you spoke an oath to unite instead of divide. But what of your means of doing so? You have built your precious peace on the corpses of people who did not agree with you. When the majority did not want to work together, you saw this as no impediment. You just killed them all. Problem solved. Journey before destination. The ends do not justify the means. It's such an easy lie to tell. Of coarse the ends justify the means; sometimes you need to make sacrifices for the greater good. The Diagramists would certainly tell you that. So too would the Sons of Honor, and, I realize, so too would the Ghostbloods. But when you tell yourselves "the ends justifies the means" you are tricking yourselves. You focus not on the end but on your ends. You choose to focus, not on the complete end result, but just on the small piece of it that you aimed to achieve. Your vision tunnels, and they see only the glory of your goals, not the price. Journey before destination, radiant. Even I know that." "I understand that nothing I can say at this point will change your mind. I don't intend to change your mind. But when the dust is settled, you will remember." Uther stands above the crowd. There was silence and blades leveled at him and anticipation for the day's end. The race was run. He draws his knife. Poisoned. A mix of powerful sedatives and a distillation of blackbane. The knife of a Ghostblood assassin. it would offer him a quick and painless death. He holds it out to the crowd, handle first. "Get it over with, then."- 329 replies

Cultivation isn't necessarily very nice
DrakeMarshall replied to Tarion's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Seeing this thread makes me happy. So! Here we go. Do forgive me but I feel it necessary to advertise my theory here. I posted it a few months ago and the more I think about it the more I think it might actually end up being true. The original thread is here... I have had similar thoughts. Cultivation's intent is not perfectly nice and perfect (to be fair, Preservation's intent wasn't perfectly "nice" either, after all Preservation in many ways approved of Rashek... I don't think any shards are a perfect embodiment of good, because different facets of morality have been split across the different shards. But I digress). I also reasoned that, chances are, Cultivation isn't just sitting on her hands. We have probably already seen her influence in some pretty major ways on the book. Also, before anyone thinks to point this out, yes, I understand that Cultivation quite possibly contributes to the nahel bond. Just because Cultivation is a factor in the magic doesn't mean that all surgebinders are a perfect embodiment of Cultivation's agenda, indeed I think the oaths bind them closer to Honor's agenda. So... A powerful but maybe not-so-obvious force on Roshar, with some connection to Cultivation... The conclusion I reach is none other than Taravangian. Future-sight powers granted from a splinter of Cultivation, the desire to save the world, and the willingness to make steep sacrifices for the greater good. Feels a lot like Cultivation's intent. !!! !!! !!! I think the evidence here is actually pretty strong. -

Storm it, my faction isn't thinking. I understand that the knee-jerk reaction is to kill eliminators... But we have two factions working against us. We need to reduce the number of kills-per-cycle they can level against us. We can't remove the Diagramist kill unless we kill all four diagramists, which will take multiple cycles. We can remove a cook kill by killing a single Son of Honor, however... If their cook isn't already dead. The final vote draws near. None of you seem willing to change your vote. So, Droughtbringer it is. Seonid remains alive. Thaidakar, I hope you have something up your sleeve you aren't telling me, because things don't look very good for us if we target Diagramists right now.- 329 replies

Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru
DrakeMarshall replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Alright. Ghostbloods. Here's the deal. As I said above, if we are not going for the Bondsmith win, we need to know if we have voter majority, and if we do then we need to target the Sons of Honor this cycle. The reason is pretty simple: to stop the Diagramist kills, we need to kill 4, where we might well be capable of halting the Sons of Honor cook kills in just one cycle. And if we are going for a Bondsmith win, at least one more of the Sons of Honor still needs to die. So either way... It is very much in the Ghostbloods interest to vote up someone who is not a Diagramist, but a confirmed Son of Honor. If we win that vote and get the Son of Honor lynched, I propose that we don't look for a Bondsmith win, because in that case we still have a fair chance at winning. If we lose the vote, then I am ready to throw my lot with the Bondsmith win, because frankly we don't have a choice in that case. Therefore, Ghostbloods, I strongly encourage you to change your vote from Droughtbringer or Sart, and vote up a Son of Honor. Manukos is a confirmed Son of Honor. If we can't mobilize all the Ghostbloods to try and lynch a Son of Honor, we might as well lie down and accept defeat to be honest.- 329 replies

Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru
DrakeMarshall replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
If the elims hadn't been revealed so early, kind of killing the fun of trying suss them out... Nobody in the Ghostbloods would be talking about cooperating with their plans. The current Sons of Honor and Diagramist plans amount basically to decimating our faction for a questionable victory that is oh so easy to undermine (all we would have to do is kill one or two of the diagramists and bondsmith victory becomes even more difficult). @Assassin in Burgundy I totally see where you are coming from, but that course of action seems storming dangerous for us. Much safer just to kill off all the Diagramists, removing the shardblade at our throat, and then hope we pulled through with more radiants than the Sons of Honor. At least that plan doesn't feature the majority of us getting slaughtered in the name of peace and teamwork. EDIT : Some more thoughts on the matter: Let us assume that this group is capable of killing 4 per cycle. One Diagramist kill, one lynching, one Ghostblood cook kill, and one Son of Honor cook kill. Since there are four eliminators, that means eight members of each other faction. The way I see it, there are two possible actions left for the Ghostbloods. 1) Pursue Ghostblood Victory, Kill the Diagramists 2) Pursue Bondsmith Victory, Cooperate with the Diagramists Now, I've done a little bit of permutations to guess how things would likely go for us... For option 1: -IF Ghostbloods have the voting advantage for lynching (kills per cycle are tied 2 v. 2) -Ghostbloods use their kills to target the Diagramists, eliminating them in two turns: Sons of Honor almost certainly win. Ghostbloods are defeated. -Ghostbloods use their kills to target the Sons of Honor, eliminating them in two turns: Unpredictable. It could very well end up either a Ghostblood win, or a Diagramist win. -Ghostbloods use their first 2 kills to target the Sons of Honor, then, if their cook is dead, target the Diagramists. The probability that the first 2 kills or the 3 kills of last cycle included their cook is 5/8, and if we do indeed hit their cook in those two kills, Ghostblood victory is quite probable. -IF Ghostbloods DO NOT have the voting advantage for lynching (kills per cycle favor the Sons of Honor and Diagramists, 3 v. 1) -Either we kill the Diagramists, causing a Sons of Honor victory... We kill the Sons of Honor, causing a Diagramist Victory... Or we lose are cook early on. If we lose our cook early on, the Sons of Honor will pretty much be able to decide. They could either betray the Diagramists at this point and almost certainly get a Sons of Honor victory, or go for the Bondsmith Victory and possibly achieve it. Conclusion: If we have the voting advantage, I say we start poisoning and lynching Sons of Honor right now, then turn our attention to the Diagramists once their cook is down. We have a fair fighting chance at winning if we take that course of action. Our goal would be to kill their cook (if they aren't already dead in the initial 3). If we successfully manage to kill their cook in the next cycle, or if their cook is already dead, then we have a decently high chance of winning. We would render the Sons of Honor unable to poison our members in one cycle, and then eliminate the Diagramists two cycles later, resulting in Ghostblood victory. If we do not have the voting advantage, I say we throw our lot with the Bondsmith win, risky as it is. This is because, without the voting advantage, trying to take on the weakened Sons of Honor and Diagramist alliance would almost inevitably result in our defeat.- 329 replies

Pretty sure that unless you are Thaidakar or Restares, you are only allowed to message the people directly below you in the chain of command. So yeah.- 329 replies

Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru
DrakeMarshall replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
A man wearing the livery of one of Sebarial's soldiers watches the crowd. His name is Uther, and like everyone else in the crowd, he is not what he seems. He doesn't say very much, not yet. It isn't time. Always let them make the first move. It didn't matter if it were a plateau assault, a war of information, or a game of Breakneck. A man from another time once said that "the best way to know if you can trust something, is to trust it." He was right of coarse, but it always pays to let someone else take that first risk of trusting. Always let them make the first move. Still, the time had come to speak. A decision was to be made. He had originally wondered if a lynching on this night was prudent. He still believed it undesirable to actually execute someone this early... But voting was still an important duty at this time. Through voting, he could learn where the others in the crowd stand. Perhaps some probing was in order... He steps from the fringes of the square into the center of the crowd, listening and weighing people's words as they argue who is suspect. His eye eventually settles on @Assassin in Burgundy. "Nelop, care to add anything? So far I have seen you advocate a course of action I think we have already established is probably undesirable... Then slip away into the fringes of the conversation, hopefully forgotten, without very much else to say. Indeed, even if you are not a diagramist, I am almost tempted to question your loyalty to the faction you do serve if you want everyone to be united. The three causes that clash in this square are different in more but name. Our ideologies are irreconcilable, and I for one would sooner be killed in the struggle than renounce my beliefs in the name of so-called peace. The dangers we face are hardly trivial. The everstorm has come, and agents I am tempted to label terrorists and zealots have infiltrated our ranks. I will not accept peace with them."- 329 replies
